Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Vampire

"Can we leave now?"

"Wait a moment, I need to activate a new employee."

"Go ahead and prepare then. After all, we still have some time before our appointment."

With that, Blade stopped talking, though Lynn could see that this guy had a deep-seated resentment within him, a hatred that was difficult to resolve.

Lynn returned to the basement, where the small generator he had prepared was nearly depleted. To maintain the entire system's operation, these generators needed to run continuously.

He had finally completed his final task.

This work required time to complete.

The liquid in the cultivation tank gradually receded, and the humanoid life form created using Purple Man as a template was activated by Lynn.

She slowly opened her eyes when the cultivation fluid was no longer sufficient to keep her suspended.

Taking control of her body's center of gravity, she stood firmly on the ground.

Stepping out of the cultivation tank, she spoke for the first time.

"Doctor."

Lynn hadn't instructed his creation to call him boss. After all, certain creations weren't intended as products in Lynn's mind.

"Put on your clothes, Kara. We have work to do immediately. As my assistant, report your status."

Lynn handed Kara a set of women's clothing he had bought along the way. Kara quickly dried herself with a towel while changing into the professional attire Lynn had prepared for her.

The black professional outfit complemented her unique purple skin, highlighting a distinctive kind of beauty.

"Physical functions good, consciousness clear, memory complete, psychological state healthy. I assess that I fully meet your requirements for an assistant, Doctor."

It seemed Lynn had been quite successful. Originally, his biggest headache had been editing his creation's memory, but judging from Kara's success...

Memory implantation through non-ability means was feasible. One could only say that the technology of the Beyonders was not backward in this world either.

Lynn's experiments had been perfectly successful, though he had experienced a few failures initially. But those could be considered harmless attempts.

However, what Lynn most wanted to do wasn't editing and modifying biological bodies. To realize more of what he had in mind, this poorly equipped laboratory was clearly insufficient.

So he needed more resources.

"Let's go. We have work to do tonight."

"Yes, Doctor."

Returning to the first floor, Lynn saw Blade already waiting outside with a car. Tom and Jekyll were already sitting in the back seat.

Lynn didn't hesitate to take the passenger seat, while Kara sat in the back.

"Do you have any other support?"

"Yes, she's already gone ahead."

"I remember she was called Karen? What about the old man?"

"Dead."

Blade was characteristically sparing with his words, but fortunately, Lynn wasn't Deadpool and wouldn't bombard Blade with a ton of crude jokes and puns.

The late-night New York streets had almost no traffic, and the area they were heading to was even more sparsely populated.

After crossing several blocks, they finally arrived at their destination.

"We're here. That's it."

Blade pointed to an unremarkable building. Presumably, Deacon was inside now.

"Do you need to make tactical deployments, or do you plan to just walk in?"

"I only need you to help me distract those guards. The matter between Deacon and me, I'll resolve myself. After you do what's necessary, I won't ask about anything else in the building."

Lynn was curious why Blade would seek help. Logically, he should be a nightmare in the eyes of these vampires, often single-handedly surrounding a large group of vampires, killing them all and then escaping unscathed, all as a matter of routine.

But this time seemed different.

"Give me the details about the guards."

Blade handed Lynn a tablet. After unlocking it, Lynn saw the power deployment within the building.

It was an eye-opener. This view gave him a new perspective on this seemingly ordinary building.

That long list of personnel notations was all vampires transformed from various retired veterans, special forces, or police officers.

It was clear that Deacon's vampire security system was definitely not comparable to the previous gang of thugs. This was a genuine small mercenary force.

At the same time, the weapons in these vampires' hands were quite luxurious, with all sorts of large-caliber assault rifles available, and even some specially made heavy firepower.

This intelligence indicated that there were no less than several hundred elites inside the building who were almost immune to most physical attacks.

The data also showed that their bulletproof equipment was heavier than that of ordinary people, since the vampires' physique allowed them to support heavier and more reliable personal protective gear.

They were almost immune to light firepower. It was hard to imagine this was a vampire lair—definitely not a place that could be handled with just a silver sword and a few submachine guns. No wonder Blade had been captured.

"It seems your opponent is indeed afraid of you. Even with these vampires wrapped up like fiber balls, if you emptied all the bullets in your gun, you probably couldn't do anything to them."

"They should indeed be afraid. Otherwise, I would have already killed my way into Deacon's home and taken his head off. They spent considerable resources building such a force, and they rarely appear in the public eye. Because this is the headquarters of one of the clans."

"Clans?"

This was the first time Lynn had heard about this. It seemed this world wasn't just ruled by the blood king far away in Transylvania?

"I don't know much about the internal affairs of vampire clans. They're more tight-lipped about this than you might imagine. In fact, those unfortunate ones created through accidents and hunting don't know the full picture of vampires."

"I guess you've already killed a few of the high-ranking members of this clan?"

"Not many. Deacon's subordinates, due to their responsibility for their businesses, provided opportunities to find them. But most of them hide in that building."

Lynn gathered quite a bit of information from Blade's words. It seemed the vampire threat in New York was far from just Deacon's clan; there must be other clans lying dormant.

However, from the intelligence Blade provided, these vampires had very limited heavy firepower, at least no anti-vehicle level explosives or large-caliber machine guns.

It was completely within Tom and Jekyll's handling range.

"Well then, I'll take action directly from the front, helping you attract most of the firepower. After that, you'll need to resolve things yourself. We'll meet again at dawn."

"Doctor, shall I act according to the plan you left in my mind?"

"Yes, first control their combat units, then take them to deal with those who won't cooperate."

"My ability may not be effective on all vampires, since their bodily functions are different from humans."

"Don't worry about that, Kara. Your ability will work on most vampires, at least most of the combat units aren't pure-bloods."

"Frost" was a surname that caught Lynn's attention, though Deacon Frost probably had no relation to the family he was imagining.

Lynn vaguely remembered what this pure-blood wanted to do—use forbidden knowledge to become a vampire immune to sunlight.

According to his hazy memory of the title, Deacon wanted to become the "Blood God."

However, this Blood God seemed too weak, killed instantly by a single serum injection.

In this world, Lynn naturally wouldn't take movie plots for granted, as evidenced by the completely different security forces inside this Frost building.

Lynn led his subordinates to the front door. The modern automatic door security system was tightly closed, without even security guards or doormen.

The entire building had only a few dim lights, appearing particularly eerie at night.

Lynn looked briefly at the door security and stepped back.

Tom naturally stepped forward and punched the bulletproof glass of the main door. With just one punch, he shattered the tempered glass door into fragments.

At the same time, on the top floor of the building, Deacon also received an alarm.

On the table before him lay a jumble of elders. These were all the old men of the united clans, all of them writhing on the ground, with many having collapsed throats.

They seemed to have been corroded by something.

But these vampires were still alive, their evil vitality making them not so easy to kill.

However, Deacon's expression wasn't good at the moment, as his female secretary rushed urgently to the conference room door.

"Someone's here. They just walked in through the front door."

"Maria, take the guards and deal with it. I have more important things to do. You all, bring the bodies of these useless fools! Come with me to the basement immediately. You are about to witness the birth of the greatest vampire!"

Deacon's beautiful secretary naturally didn't dare to disobey his arrangement. She summoned several vampire guards and began heading downstairs.

While Deacon wasn't taking Lynn's invasion seriously, Lynn had already broken through the first floor's defenses. Kara was efficiently using a new small tablet, making some gestures on it.

Lynn naturally hadn't planned to personally handle everything.

Jekyll and Tom were enough to accomplish the task of attracting firepower. These vampire guards had very tenacious vitality.

But even after being seriously injured, they would still be unable to get up for a while.

After all, they were still hybrids.

Masses of bullets poured onto Jekyll and Tom's bodies, but the attacks from light weapons were quite limited. These common ordinary military weapons could hardly cause any effective damage to Tom and Jekyll's flesh.

On the contrary, the heavy armor on these vampire warriors couldn't protect their bodies at all.

The beast soldiers could easily break their limbs and snap their spines.

Lynn and Kara sat on the sofa in the entrance hall, calmly listening to the gunfire and the exclamations and screams of the vampires inside.

"What the hell is that thing!"

"Aaaaahhhh!"

"Fuck this! I'm done! I'm out!"

Among them, there were quite a few who were scared out of their wits, but Jekyll, as a fighting machine, naturally wouldn't let those frightened enemies escape.

When the barrage became thin due to the collapse of a small portion of people, it greatly reduced the pressure on Jekyll.

He directly stepped into the defensive line of these vampire warriors, and those hastily piled-up sofas and loungers were broken like wafer cookies.

Jekyll and Tom easily cleared all the vampires on this floor.

A few minutes later, a jumble of vampire warriors lay before Lynn as Kara went forward one by one to establish connections with them.

She removed the helmets of these vampire guards, revealing the pale faces inside, and then a small piece of flesh separated from her palm, landing on the heads of these vampires.

Created with Purple Man as the basic template, Kara not only had Purple Man's mind control abilities but could also control some organisms' brains through her own tissue.

However, the maximum number of people Kara could control now wasn't much, with Lynn estimating around a thousand people, and these people couldn't be too physically strong.

Otherwise, Kara's body tissues would quickly lose activity due to their immune systems.

But temporarily controlling these vampires was enough.

As Kara's flesh buds burrowed into the brains of these still-living vampires through their nostrils or ear canals, it signified that these vampires were completely under Kara's control.

"They've temporarily passed out. It seems their enhanced minds also couldn't block the intense physical pain, causing protective shock. Doctor, they won't be of much help for now."

"I wasn't counting on these people to do anything right now anyway. They're not important."

When Lynn and Kara had completed the control of this batch of vampire warriors, Jekyll and Tom had already cleared this floor. All sounds of combat in the corridor had stopped.

"Continue, Kara. These vampires will all be our future employees. When our affairs are on track, your abilities can be used in more important places."

"As long as it's your instruction, Doctor, it's the most important work for me."

While Lynn was leading his three employees sweeping through the entire vampire building, Maria was watching her subordinates arguing in the monitoring room at the top of the building.

"Didn't you see those two monsters? Only elders have that kind of strength!"

"Shut your mouth. Don't discuss pure-bloods. They're in there having a meeting right now! You may want to die, but I don't."

"Damn it, staying here is just another path to death. Didn't you see? 7.62 bullets only create some sparks when they hit them. That furry monster is okay, at least you can see it fearing the web of fire, but that thing that looks like a big beetle ignored all the bullets and crushed several guys!"

Maria walked over with disdain. As one of the rare pure-bloods, she naturally looked down on these weak hybrids.

After all, they didn't even have the ability to transform, only having a status slightly higher than humans.

Maria's arrival obviously made these two vampire warriors shut their mouths.

"What nonsense are you two little mongrels talking about? Gather the troops immediately!"

"But, Lady Maria, they..."

The pure-blood had no intention of wasting words with them. Maria directly crushed the brain of this vampire who wasn't wearing a helmet.

Seeing his comrade's tragic fate, the other guy swallowed and quickly ran out. He needed to gather troops for Maria.

Maria continued to advance, while giving orders to the few commanders remaining on the upper levels. The appearance of a pure-blood made these scared vampires regain some morale.

Soon, these people mustered their courage and regrouped.

In the minds of most vampires, pure-bloods were also monsters. They were all evil, corrupt beings directly transformed by evil forces.

Their brutality and power exceeded the two terrifying monsters seen on the monitors.

Lynn was temporarily disabling surveillance along the way while looking at the building design drawings that Kara had found from an office.

"There's a hall in the middle level, looking like a conference room or activity room. There's an open space there."

"Do you think these people will have their final battle with us there?"

"It's possible. After all, they believe they have a numerical advantage, so setting an ambush in an open area would be the best choice."
