Chapter 17 - Chapter 15: The Web of Lies

The next day, as the group traversed deeper into the Maze, something felt... wrong. The tension between the three of them had become palpable, thick with unspoken words and doubts. Takumi noticed how Haruka was now keeping her distance, avoiding eye contact, while Ryo's behavior had grown more erratic, more unpredictable.

It all came to a head when they stumbled upon another strange room—this time, it was a mirror maze, and they had to navigate through its endless reflections. Each wrong turn brought them deeper into a distorted version of their reality. The mirrors showed them images of themselves, twisted and fractured, like the Maze itself was trying to break them apart.

"Do you see this?" Takumi said, voice tight as he stared at the reflection of himself in one of the mirrors. It showed him, but different—more vulnerable, more isolated.

Haruka stepped beside him, but her eyes didn't meet his. Instead, she gazed at a different mirror, one that showed her in a completely different light—conflicted, angry, scared. She was gripping something in her hand, but Takumi couldn't see what it was.

"Haruka?" Takumi called out, his voice tinged with concern.

Haruka's gaze snapped to him, her expression softening for a moment, but then her eyes darkened again. She bit her lip, looking at the ground. "I... I'm sorry, Takumi. I don't know if I can keep going. This Maze... it's breaking me."

Takumi took a step forward, but before he could reach her, Ryo cut in. "Don't waste your time, Takumi. She's lying to you."

Takumi whipped around, his pulse quickening. "What are you talking about, Ryo?"

Ryo's smirk was chilling. "I've been watching you two. You don't think I see what's going on? You think I don't see the way she looks at you? The way she's been manipulating you all along?"

Haruka flinched as if Ryo's words physically struck her. "Ryo, stop. You don't know what you're talking about!"

But Ryo's laughter was cold. "Oh, I know more than you think. Haruka's been playing both of you. She's been pulling the strings behind the scenes, using her charm to get what she wants. She's been planting seeds of doubt in your mind, Takumi. And she's been using your feelings for her against you."

Takumi stared at Ryo, his mind racing. "You're wrong. Haruka isn't like that."

But Haruka's face was unreadable now. She stepped back, the distance between them growing.

"I... I'm not sure what to believe anymore," she said, her voice almost a whisper. "Maybe he's right. Maybe I've been lying to myself too."

Takumi's stomach twisted. The trust between them—the bond—was shattering before his eyes. Could Ryo be right? Was Haruka really using him? Or had the Maze twisted their minds so completely that they couldn't trust each other anymore?

Chapter 16: The Breaking Point

That night, Takumi couldn't sleep. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions—doubt, betrayal, and something even darker. The Maze had always been a test of strength, of physical endurance, but now, it was testing something far more dangerous: their minds.

He sat alone in the dark, his headphones in his lap. The silence felt unbearable. The constant hum of his headphones had always been his escape, his comfort. But now, it only reminded him of how alone he felt.

Suddenly, a soft voice broke through the stillness. "Takumi…"

He turned to see Haruka standing in the shadows, her silhouette barely visible in the dim light. She looked... different. Her eyes were red, as if she had been crying, but there was something else there too—a certain darkness.

"What is it, Haruka?" Takumi asked, his voice low, cautious.

She stepped closer, and for the first time, he saw the real fear in her eyes. "I don't know who to trust anymore. I'm scared... scared that the Maze has already won. That it's already taken us."

Takumi's heart skipped a beat. "Haruka, we'll make it through this. We just have to stay together."

But as she reached out to him, Takumi noticed something flicker in her eyes—something manipulative, almost predatory. The shift was subtle, but unmistakable.

Before Takumi could react, Ryo appeared from the shadows, his eyes cold and calculating. "She's playing you, Takumi. You can't trust her."

Takumi's world seemed to collapse. He looked from Haruka to Ryo, unsure of what was real anymore. Were they both using him? Was this some twisted game the Maze had orchestrated? Was he truly the leader he thought he was, or was he just a pawn in someone else's plot?

The Maze wasn't just testing their survival anymore. It was testing their souls.
