Chapter 2 - Modern Day Christopher Columbus

I was convincing myself that he hadn't just said that. I just stood there, staring at him. Waiting for him to say something else, but he was sipping his drink like he hadn't just said something insane. Looking completely unbothered, even savoring his alcohol.

Perhaps my hearing had gone haywire because I was just drugged.

Or maybe this was all a dream. It had to be.

But then again, there was nothing sane about this man, so I didn't know what I was expecting him to say. But I wouldn't have guessed he would say that.

A part of me was thinking I was kidnapped for ransom, but how could a well-off man like himself possibly want more money? he seemed like a lot of things, but not greedy. Especially when I was sure my family couldn't come up with anything more than $200,000. He didn't seem like he needed $200,000.

So I wasn't too surprised that the reason behind my kidnapping was psychosis, which was why I found it comedic, because I had just burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter.

This man was insane!

Insane!

I wasn't sure what his insanity meant for me, but at least it kept me very entertained for now, because I couldn't stop laughing.

"You're insane", I said between laughs. Trying to hold myself back.

I finally stopped, but I could feel tears at the corners of my eyes when I did.

"You're a madman", I said as I walked toward him, careful not to get tripped over by my dress.

"You have to be kidding", I said as I reached the back of the couch, resting both of my arms as I mirrored his plain look as I stared back at him.

"Do I look like I'm joking?" he asked.

He took a sip of his golden honey liquor.

He didn't look like he was.

But I wasn't going to pass off the opportunity to laugh at his face.

"You have to be.

It's either that or you're crazy because I will never marry you".

He stood up abruptly, and I nearly flinched.

"You'd rather marry than your pathetic boyfriend.

What's his name?" he said in a mocking voice.

"Ah, yes, Logan.

High school sweethearts," he mocked.

He was walking towards me now with a smug look on his face, and oh, did he know how to push my buttons.

The way he said Logan's name made bile rise in my throat.

"Better him than a lunatic", I responded. I hadn't noticed when he came to stand right in front of me, barely 2 feet away.

"Too bad you won't get to marry him then", he mocked.

The bile in my throat was turning to hot lava, and with how close he was, I was just even more infuriated.

How could someone manage to be this repulsively annoying?

I have never wanted to spit in someone's eye as much as I did at this exact moment.

"Fuck you", I spat.

He didn't flinch. This time, he didn't hide his amusement.

"So soon?

I thought we would need to get to know each other first", he said with a smirk.

Yes, this man was too gorgeous for his good, and his smirk would most likely knock anyone's knees.

But at that moment, all I wanted to do was slap that perfect smirk off his face, which I did.

At least attempted to, because he caught me right before I could slap him.

"I'm not your pathetic Logan that you can do whatever to", he warned.

"Don't you dare", he snarled, his grip on my wrist getting tighter.

"At least Logan is brave enough to propose.

You're a coward and you know it. A fucking looney ass coward", I spat back.

If stares could kill, we would both be lying on the floor, lifeless.

"I'm a man that takes".

"How gallant, a modern-day Christopher Columbus.

Shall I get you a flag so you hoist it inside of me?" What did this fool think it was? 1800's? And who the fuck did he think he was.

"I have something better than a flag, princess", he said smugly, his annoying smirk back, taunting me even more.

"Let go of me, you pig", I said, tugging my hand away, and he released it almost immediately. I caught myself before I could fall back.

"I will never marry you.

So you might as well shoot me, or let me go", I said.

I took two steps back, creating more space between us. It was like even his cologne made me sick.

"A prisoner making demands.

This is interesting", he said.

His hands slipped back into his pockets casually. He stood there and just stared at me.

"How do you even know me?

Have you been stalking me?

You're sick", every moment with this man made me more and more angry.

My brain was just piecing together just how much of a loony he was, how did he know my name? Logan's name?

"Oh, let's not be pretentious.

You weren't going to go through with that wedding.

Even if you happened to have said I do, you would have been miserable and you know it", he wasn't lying. I didn't know how he, of all people who didn't even know me, figured it out, but he was right.

I was rethinking the whole wedding before I was brought here.

"You don't even know me".

"Don't I?

You're an artist, you draw adventures and lives on a page.

You wouldn't settle for such a stale person like Logan, and you knew that.

You would have felt more caged with him than you feel here." Again, he wasn't wrong, but how did he know all this? How did he know that I was an artist? I haven't picked up a paintbrush since college.

"So what?

I should thank you.

For bailing me out?

By kidnapping me?

Are you even hearing yourself?" he might have been right about the wedding, but he was a psycho; I couldn't possibly admit that to him.

"What was it?

Damian?

You're a fucking lunatic, and whatever you think you're going to accomplish.

It's never gonna happen".

He rolled his eyes, and only then did I notice how grey they were.

Why would a man as handsome and rich wants to kidnap a woman? The only explanation is he's a madman.

His phone rang, and just before he picked it up, he said Excuse me.

Wow, a criminal with manners. This man is the full package.

I tried to listen in on his conversation, but I soon realized he wasn't speaking English, maybe Spanish.

I wouldn't know, I sadly only spoke English.

Who would have thought that I would get kidnapped and would need a foreign language skill?

My headache was worsening, so I took a seat on the couch. Patiently waiting for more answers.

Soon after, he came back in from the balcony.

"You need some food in you.

I'll ask them to bring up lunch, unfortunately, I won't be able to join you.

Here", he said, tossing a key to me.

"Key to the closet.

It's not like you plan to make it back to the wedding.

Get changed, lunch will be up shortly".

Before I could say anything, he was already at the door, curse those long legs. I could outrun him.

Just when I got up, I heard the door open again.

"Don't do anything stupid", he said before leaving again. I heard the door lock.

I might have been having cold feet about marrying Logan, but I wasn't about to move in with that bastard.

I was gonna get out of here or die trying.
