Chapter 15 - 15.The Shadow Beneath

The night was heavy with tension. Phantom's escape had only deepened the mystery. He wasn't just some common criminal, but a shadow with plans much bigger than a simple street-level hustle.

You were standing beside Daredevil, overlooking the city from the roof of an old brownstone. His senses were still sharp, alert as ever.

"He's not just playing games," Daredevil said, his voice tense, "and that makes him dangerous. He's calculated. He's planning."

You leaned against the edge of the building, taking a deep breath. "I don't know how much longer I can keep up with this. The power I'm using—copying other people's abilities—it's taking a toll. I can feel it."

Daredevil turned to you, his gaze softening for a moment, before hardening again. "The city's full of power-hungry people. But you're not one of them. You're just trying to survive. Keep your head down when you can."

You nodded, but it wasn't enough. You needed more than just survival. You needed answers.

"We're not alone in this," Daredevil said, before throwing a glance at Spider-Man, who was perched on a nearby ledge, quietly watching the city below. "He's got a strange way of working, but he's been here longer than either of us. Trust him."

You glanced at Spider-Man. His antics and cocky demeanor were hard to ignore, but you knew by now that there was more to him than just a jokester in a tight suit. His history with Phantom might hold the key to stopping him.

The night was cold, the city lights flickering in the distance. It was almost as if the entire city had stopped, watching you, waiting for the next move.

"He's connected to something bigger, isn't he?" you asked, the question finally hanging in the air.

Daredevil didn't answer right away. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small device, handing it to you.

"This is a tracker. It's the best way I've got to track Phantom's energy. Once we get a lock on him, we can move in. We don't need to wait until the situation escalates."

Before you could respond, a voice cut through the night.

"Careful with that. You're messing with more than you know."

Spider-Man had swung over, landing softly beside you, his eyes scanning the horizon.

"We already know he's bad news," you said, slightly frustrated. "But why are we waiting? We could go after him now."

"You think so?" Spider-Man quipped, a smirk barely visible through his mask. "Because I've got a gut feeling that rushing in will only make things worse."

Daredevil nodded. "Spider-Man's right. Phantom's not stupid. He's got connections—powerful ones. If we make a move without knowing more, we might just be playing right into his hands."

It felt like a game of chess, each move being scrutinized, each player carefully considering the next step. You were tired of playing defense.

"I don't care about playing it safe," you said, your tone sharp. "I need answers, and I need them now."

Spider-Man chuckled, his voice light despite the tension. "Oh, believe me, I get it. But rushing in without thinking is how we ended up with that mess earlier." He nodded toward the alley where Phantom had escaped.

You clenched your jaw. "Fine. We wait. But Phantom's not going to get away from me."
