A sharp jolt pulled me from the darkness.
My eyes blinked open to cold stone walls and a silver cell. The air felt thick, humid… and held a trace of blood. For a moment, I couldn't tell where I was, whether I was still trapped in my memory or if I'd finally clawed my way back into the real world.
But when I tried to move, agony ripped through my limbs. A low growl escaped my throat before I could stop it.
My muscles spasmed violently, my bones shifting under my skin with a mind of their own. I felt my hands stretch into claws, then shrink back into fingers. My fangs elongated, then receded. Patches of fur covered my arms one second, gone the next.
Back and forth. Human. Wolf. Human. Wolf.
I was stuck between both, trapped in a violent tug-of-war with myself. I let out another ragged breath, bracing myself against the cold stone floor. Every nerve in my body was on fire. My heartbeat was erratic, pulsing too fast, like it didn't know which body it belonged to.
