Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

System panel. It included all the info about the awakener including the stats, jobs, status affects, and even remaining lifespan. It also included an interface for the origin shop which gets activated when you are in the region within the origin monument.

You can buy, sell, and auction off the items you need in the origin shop. The most important function other than these is the inventory. Inventory had 1x1x1m dimensional space initially during the time of awakening.

One of the ways to increase its capacity is when one advances from one tier to another the inventory max space will increase. Another way is to use storage stones which drop in special dungeons or buy it from the system shop.

The inventory can store anything regardless of mass inside it as long as it fits inside. The time will be frozen as well. So the things you put in will be exactly the same when you pull it out.

Alan chatted away with Arun as they reached the beginner dungeon. They reached it as it was somewhat near the crystal monument. They all readied their equipment and potions before the dungeon was opened.

Soon the beginner dungeon was opened. This dungeon was allocated to No 1, 2 and 3 highschools. So it seemed crowded at the entrance but as Alan stepped into the dungeon, a vast field caught his eye. It was not crowded at all inside due to the very large space.

It's a large-scale dungeon focussed on nurturing tier 0 awakeners. It is very safe and easy to grind for levels even if a large number of rookies entered. The dungeon starts with the dungeon entrance as the centre and stretches across all directions.

The level of monsters increases as you go deeper. There are also various boss monsters spread across the region. The regions of boss monsters were marked out in the map given out by the school.

As students were busy making teams Alan and Arun decided to split up.

"If you ever run into trouble you can come to me, I will take care of it" Arun said before departing.

"Yeah. I would also say the same" Alan said as he rushed into the forest.

Some of the geniuses also decided to go solo. Alan rushed into the forest area. He checked the issued map of the region he was in. The map didn't cover everything but it provided good geographical data about the initial areas of the dungeon.

He skimmed through the initial low level areas. Soon he found his first prey. The horned rabbits. There were around 4 and 3 of them were level 1 while there was a level 2. They were considered easy prey to hunt and grind for experience.

He snuck up to them carefully and waited for the right time. It was his first time hunting with the bow. He nocked his arrow and pulled the bow string. As soon as two of the rabbits lined up he shot his arrow. He got the two in one go.

The other two seeing this tried to run away but alan had prepared another one and shot one of the fleeing rabbits. His passive skill came in handy this time. He took down the level 1 rabbits. And the level 2 rabbit was quick on its foot.

He got head shots which took them down quickly. He checked his panel and saw his experience go up by 15. Which means he got 5 exp per rabbit.

He soon went towards the rabbits and unfortunately only one of them dropped some loot which was some origin coins which can be used in the origin shop. There were 3 grades of coins. Copper, silver and gold.

The exchange ratios are as follows

1000 copper coins = 1 silver coin

1000 silver coins = 1 gold coin

He got 4 coins in total. Of course he got the lowest copper coins.

He recovered the arrows he shot. Thanks to his skill he forged over the years the arrows only lost around 2% of it's durability. Well if it was a big tough prey the durability would drop quickly considering the hide thickness and prey's behaviour after it was shot.

He got up and decided to track down the level 2 rabbit that ran away. He walked in the direction it ran. He recalled the basic tracking techniques taught in dungeon education class in school.

Horned rabbits are light weight creatures. They usually don't leave any footprints. So tracking it down using conventional ways may be tricky.

First of all, horned rabbits' legs are special. It can move around silently and does not produce any sounds. But when dashing at high speeds it can only move in one direction due to its leg bone structure. So it tends to crash into things if it flees in frantic as it moves just now.

Alan checked the route and indeed there was signs of it crashing into. Now since it is fleeing he only need to figure out the direction it took off after the crash, which is not a big a deal.

Secondly it may run fast but it also runs out of energy faster. A level 2 horned rabbit can sprint upto 250 - 300 meters after that it will run out of juice. So in order to not expose itself to vulnerable predators it will run into its burrow which they usually build below rocky areas.

Alan already knows the topography of the region, and there was a hilly area somewhat rocky 200 meters away from his directions. It was the rough direction in which the rabbit was dashing into.

He didn't hesitate and dashed in that direction. Soon he reached the position. He checked the hilly area and soon found a burrow. Well if it was any other person they would have been helpless.

Here is where his skill fire ball will come in handy. He spammed his fireball skill repeatedly into the burrow. The story burrow may act as a fortress against big foes.

But tunneling through the rocks requires huge chunks of energy which the rabbits do not have. The monsters and topography are refreshed every time the dungeon rests and opens.

So the burrow in front of Alan was not supposed to be deep. Soon a frantic horned rabbit engulfed in flames jumped out in front of him. It only had 20% of it's HP left and it was falling down due to the negative status burn.

In a last ditch effort it rushed towards him pointing its horn towards him to stab him. But Alan already had casted another fireball which was enough to empty it out it's HP. He received the kill notification.

In this clash he got about 15 exp. So counting the 3 level 1 rabbits and this one he got around 30 exp. He still needed 60 more expensive to level up.

' Hunting horned rabbits is easy but in order to level up fast I need to find good prey. With this bow I can probably leapfrog upto 5 levels if I adjust the bow settings right.' Alan thought as he checked the loot dropped.

He was lucky this time and got some rabbit horns. It is used as an ingredient in some alchemy and weapon forging. Apart from it he also got copper coins. He packed them up into his storage.

He then took out the map to analyse his surroundings and plan his next steps. He decided to move towards the territory of red striped boars. They give out good exp compared to these rabbits.

There was also a goblin settlement in the route so he could check on them for exp. He excitedly rushed towards his next target.
