Chapter 199: Arrival at Agripinaa
Having disconnected from the warp, the Dynasty once again entered a period of stable development. Using Malfi as a springboard, it began to expand its influence into the surrounding star systems. Clone soldiers also began to be integrated into the Dynasty's battle order in the form of infantry regiments.
With Karax's help, Pavian once again began to perfect the transplanted jump drive technology, ensuring that the Stellar Pioneer would no longer be in danger of disintegrating when performing a tactical jump. And Karax himself also began to use Protoss wraithbone to conduct preliminary experiments for the Purifiers.
As the survivors of Kholor brought the news of the Craftworld's fall and the Dynasty's strength back to other Craftworlds, the number of Eldar raids in the Expanse also decreased. The high-ranking members of Kholor's Eldar had all died in the war, and most of those who had escaped were civilians; they did not know the means by which Lucan had located their Craftworld. This made the other Craftworlds somewhat hesitant to act, fearing that if they made a move against Lucan, their own Craftworlds would also be located. However, many Craftworlds still sent reconnaissance teams into the Expanse, which made the Ordo Xenos led by Ian incredibly busy.
The raids by the Dark Eldar in the Expanse also became less frequent. The master of Commorragh, Vect, was mustering all the forces he could to encircle and destroy the Ynnari led by Yvraine.
The stabilization of the situation in the Expanse allowed Lucan to once again turn his attention to the affairs of the Imperium. As a large number of Kholor Eldar's technological weapons and equipment flowed into the Calixis Sector, the news that the Mongorte Dynasty had destroyed a Craftworld also began to spread. This was a major event, enough to shock the entire Imperium. Although the high-ranking officials of the Imperium who understood the Craftworld Eldar did not believe it, the massive amount of Eldar weapons, equipment, and warship wreckage could not be faked.
Relying on the exchange of benefits from these Eldar items, the Dynasty began to purchase a large amount of assets on Scintilla at prices that others could not refuse. The Cult of the Holy Machine even used several disabled Eldar warships to pry open the doors of the Adeptus Mechanicus forge world next to Malfi, establishing a branch on the forge world in the name of a learning exchange. Lucan was confident that the power of the SCVs and the Purity Seals was enough to tempt any tech-priest.
The Blood Ravens also declared that it was through their joint efforts with the Mongorte Dynasty that this great feat was accomplished. This caused the matter to bypass other important intelligence and be sent directly to the desk of the Departmento Munitorum, and then sent back to Terra with extremely high priority.
When this matter reached the Departmento Munitorum on Terra, this piece of intelligence also attracted the attention of the High Lords. The name of the Mongorte Dynasty, for the first time, traveled beyond the frontiers of the Imperium and reached the very center of the Imperium of Man. However, it only briefly caught the attention of those High Lords before being quickly forgotten. After all, at this moment, there was nothing in the Imperium more important than Cadia.
Countless pleas for help from various planets were constantly arriving. Astropathic messages of planets being conquered by Chaos even left the High Lords worn-out. But the low administrative efficiency still had the High Lords studying the matter to determine its severity and which Imperial forces should be sent to provide support. On the contrary, many Astartes Chapters, after receiving the plea for help from Cadia, directly put aside their own affairs and immediately went to support them.
But this piece of intelligence, which was overlooked by the High Lords, was immediately known to the Custodes. The Mongorte Dynasty, which was already on their watch list, was immediately brought to Trajann's attention through the vast intelligence network secretly established by the Custodes.
"To have developed to such a state in just a dozen years... what in the world happened to this Dynasty? A Craftworld... could be conquered by just one Dynasty and one Chapter? A self-proclaimed Living Saint of the Emperor... could this Rogue Trader named Lucan truly be a person blessed by the Emperor?"
Trajann could only think of this one possibility. Otherwise, why would the Emperor issue a specific directive to the Custodes for him? When the Emperor had informed them of the Mongorte Dynasty's existence, Trajann had had his people collect as much intelligence on them as possible. The former Mongorte Dynasty hadn't even ranked among the major Rogue Traders. And the Speaker for the Emperor had not received any further revelations.
"Where is the Emperor's Chosen team now?"
"Captain-General, the warship carrying the Emperor's Chosen team has been delayed by the warp near Cadia! However, through our intelligence network in the Departmento Munitorum, we have learned that this Dynasty has an Astra Militarum regiment called the Raiders, which is part of the Calixis Sector's support for Cadia. They have arrived at Agripinaa. The team has asked via astropath whether they should make direct contact with this force."
"Agripinaa? An Adeptus Mechanicus forge world? I remember the Astropathic Choir's intelligence said that the nearby worlds are currently suffering from a Nurgle plague, right? There was even intelligence that witnessed the presence of the Death Guard fleet."
"Yes. The Emperor's people are struggling because of this evil sorcery from the dark gods. The Officio Medicae is also helpless against this plague."
Hearing this, Trajann's face was filled with disgust. A Chapter created by the Emperor's own hands, his own sons, had betrayed him. It was these traitors who had caused the Emperor to be confined to the Golden Throne! Trajann also wanted to lead the Custodes out of the Palace, to let them feel the Emperor's wrath, but the duty of protecting the God-Emperor was more important. Not long ago, Chaos had launched a surprise attack on Terra, which showed that Terra was not so safe.
"Has this unit called the Raiders been assigned any tasks?"
"Not yet."
"Have the Emperor's Chosen postpone their plan to go to Calixis. Have them make contact with this Astra Militarum regiment. I need more intelligence. If that Rogue Trader named Lucan is truly a person blessed by the Emperor, then he will cooperate with us."
"I will see to it at once!"
At this moment, Damon and the others had also arrived at Agripinaa with the support forces from the Calixis Sector. Here, Damon and the wolves led by Harald parted ways. The wolves led by Logan Grimnar had already arrived in the sector near Cadia; he had to rendezvous with his pack. The two Cadian mechanized infantry regiments, ordered to return to Cadia, also began to assemble as ordered.
Damon even used the Barracks on his warship to provide these Cadians with 2,000 sets of combat suits.
"Colonel Philip! Take care!"
"Thank you, Lord Damon. The equipment you have provided will reduce our casualties a great deal!"
Philip marveled at Damon's generosity. During their stop on Scintilla, he had seen how expensive this equipment was sold for, and yet Damon had given it to them for free, without asking for anything in return.
After sending off the Cadian soldiers, Damon looked at the encampment of the Scintillan Fusiliers in the distance. These people still had the heart to drink at a time like this. He also knew that Scintilla had sent this force just to go through the motions. The Fusiliers, who were already at the bottom tier of the Astra Militarum, had sent the worst of the worst. Apart from their decent equipment, they had no combat effectiveness to speak of. Whoever had to fight alongside this Astra Militarum regiment would be unlucky.
"Send a communication to the Lord. Tell him we have arrived at our destination and request his next instructions."
The communication was sent back to Agathos, and Lucan also received the message.
According to the information Damon had gathered on Agripinaa, the entire Agripinaa Battlefleet was holding its position in the Agripinaa system. The chaotic situation in the system had made the Navy choose to hold their ground to prevent this important naval base from being lost. After all, Agripinaa provided a large amount of weapons and equipment to the nearby systems, and even the Navy's own shipyards were here. This meant that a large number of other, less important worlds had almost fallen into hell and had been abandoned by the Imperium. The local garrisons could only rely on themselves to fight against Chaos.
The increasingly strong warp storms were blocking astropathic communication between star systems.
