Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - A Calamitous Start—Innate Rank 1 Soul Power, Blue Silver Grass

"Blue Silver Grass?"

Inside the Awakening Hall.

The Spirit Hall deacon in charge of awakenings wasn't the least bit surprised when he saw the martial soul awakened in Ye Yu's hand.

After all, Blue Silver Grass was perhaps the most common—and yes, the most useless—martial soul on the entire continent!

Still, following the standard procedure, after Ye Yu stepped out of the Martial Soul Awakening Array, the deacon went to a table at the back and picked up a crystal ball glowing with a faint blue hue.

"Here. Let's test your soul power."

When Ye Yu awakened his martial soul, he hadn't heard the familiar "ding!" sound in his mind. That was disappointing.

So much for those reincarnation cheats with built-in systems—total nonsense!

Even so, as the Spirit Hall deacon handed over the crystal ball, Ye Yu placed his hand on it per the process.

Honestly, Ye Yu wasn't expecting anything.

After all, he didn't have a drunkard dad named Tang Hao.

Just a plain Blue Silver Grass martial soul—what soul power could that possibly produce?

"Huh?"

Suddenly, the deacon let out a surprised grunt.

The crystal ball emitted a faint ghostly blue glow.

"This just barely registers at Rank 1."

"Congratulations—you have the potential to become a soul master."

The deacon clicked his tongue in wonder. Blue Silver Grass martial souls almost never had soul power.

So to find one that actually did? Remarkable.

Even a trash martial soul—if it possessed soul power—meant the child had stepped across the threshold into the extraordinary world of soul masters.

"You have Rank 1 innate soul power..."

Ye Yu stared at the gently glowing crystal ball, dumbfounded, barely believing what he saw.

No way.

I didn't get a system, and you gave me this? A Blue Silver Grass with only Rank 1 innate soul power?

If I'd had no martial soul at all, that would've been fine.

Ye Yu could have accepted his fate and lived as an ordinary person—working hard to improve his life however he could.

But to be given a trash-tier martial soul with just enough soul power to qualify—to let him glimpse the path to power, but know he'd never walk far?

How could he possibly accept that?

His fists clenched, jaw tightened, heart full of frustration and unwillingness.

A transmigrator. No powerful background. No golden finger system.

And an innate Rank 1 Blue Silver Grass martial soul.

This… this was the definition of a catastrophic start!

"Thank you."

Despite the storm in his heart, Ye Yu forced a polite smile and thanked the deacon.

Then he turned and walked away.

Behind him, a long line of children still awaited their turn.

No point delaying them.

Exiting the Spirit Hall sub-branch, Ye Yu walked out into the sunlight.

Outside, Wang Hongshan sat lazily against a wall, chewing on a strand of Blue Silver Grass he'd yanked from a nearby flowerbed, waiting with nothing better to do.

"Uncle Hongshan!"

Ye Yu called out.

"Xiaoyu?!"

Seeing him come out, Wang Hongshan immediately leapt up, brushing the dust off his pants and laughing as he strode over.

"How did it go, Xiaoyu?"

"What martial soul did you awaken? Any soul power?"

Faced with Wang Hongshan's concern, Ye Yu sighed and said, "I awakened… Blue Silver Grass."

Wang Hongshan seemed ready to offer a comforting word, already anticipating disappointment—until Ye Yu added:

"But… I do have innate Rank 1 soul power. I can become a soul master."

Even as he said it, Ye Yu's feelings were complicated.

To ordinary people, possessing soul power at all was a dream.

But to Ye Yu—a transmigrator?

A Blue Silver Grass with only Rank 1 innate soul power...

That was even more crushing.

Because he had crossed into the extraordinary world of soul masters.

But with such poor talent, he would remain trapped at the very bottom.

Train for a lifetime, and he might only barely reach the achievements of a genius who'd trained for just a few years.

It was hopeless.

Ye Yu's chest tightened with frustration.

No system. Just a weak martial soul.

Did that mean he was doomed to be useless?

Then how would he be any different from Yu Xiaogang, the one who said: "There are no trash martial souls, only trash soul masters"?

But Ye Yu was a transmigrator!

He came from Blue Star, from a modern Huaxia civilization with 5,000 years of history.

He'd received a full modern education, bathed in a sea of knowledge, with a mind unbound by convention.

And most importantly—he knew the plot of this world!

Could he really not find a way to break the script?

A surge of resistance and fighting spirit flooded his chest.

No!

So what if it's Rank 1 Blue Silver Grass?

If he found the right path, he could evolve it—into the legendary Nine-Leaf Sword Grass!

With sword qi that slashed through space, shattered stars and moons, and severed destiny itself!

…Well, okay. The Nine-Leaf Sword Grass came from a far more powerful world—Perfect World.

Evolving into that here on Douluo Continent without a system would be near impossible.

But there was still Blue Silver King and Blue Silver Emperor!

If he planned well, and evolved his martial soul accordingly—why not?

Wang Hongshan, of course, had no idea Ye Yu's thoughts had gone that far.

Hearing Ye Yu had soul power, he was overjoyed and started laughing heartily.

"Good! That's great!"

"Xiaoyu, congratulations!"

"Your father's martial soul is Wooden Spear—so there was a chance you'd inherit some innate soul power."

"But to think you got your mother's Blue Silver Grass and still have soul power—amazing!"

"Rank 1 is a start! If you work hard, you can become a soul master!"

Wang Hongshan patted Ye Yu's shoulder, grinning from ear to ear.

"If you ever run into trouble or need help—come to Uncle Hongshan, okay?"

"It's getting late. I've got patrol duty with the City Guard."

"You head home. Tonight, Uncle's treating you to a proper feast to celebrate!"

He turned, laughing as he strode away in high spirits.

"Innate Rank 1 soul power? Not bad! Not bad!"

"My Xiaoyu has what it takes to be a soul master! Haha!"

Ye Yu twitched slightly at the corner of his mouth.

Uncle… you really shouldn't jinx it like that.

Once Wang Hongshan left, Ye Yu also turned to head home.

Now that he'd made up his mind—to rely on his knowledge and insight as a transmigrator to evolve his Blue Silver Grass into something powerful—

Then his first step was to sit down and carefully sort through everything he knew about this world.

Only by organizing the information in his mind could he begin crafting a plan for his future path to power.
