Chapter 89 - 85: Inner thoughts

While we were talking, we didn't even notice how the evening had crept up. I was going to say goodbye to the lovely ladies and go to the hotel for the night, but Sylvia Danvers unexpectedly changed my plans.

She didn't want to let me go so easily, and persuaded me to stay the night with them. In the house, to my great surprise, there was a cozy attic, suitable for living. I didn't feel like sleeping yet, and I decided to go out into the yard, breathe in the air and, if possible, admire the stars. The sky that night was clear and clean, it seemed, completely strewn with bright luminaries. I took a deep breath. Why does the air smell special at night?

While I was asking myself the eternal questions, I noticed Karen nearby, slowly swinging on a garden swing, contemplating the starry sky. Without thinking twice, I walked up to her and sat down next to her.

"What are you thinking about?" I asked, looking up at the sky.

"About the threat you were talking about. And some people really do consider my cousin and me a real threat."

"Heh, don't get yourself worked up. There will always be those who can't accept the fact that there is someone stronger than them. And it doesn't matter whether these people are stronger than them physically or spiritually. For them, the only thing that matters is that you are different from them, which means you are a danger. In reality, some of them are just fools who can't see beyond their inflated egos. There are threats in the world beyond their imagination, and sooner or later they will have to face them. Then they will have no choice but to rely on our all-powerful heroes."

"On the one hand, I'm waiting for the moment when I can prove myself, and on the other... None of this will matter if the Earth really does face the threat of total destruction. There will inevitably be many casualties," the heroine said in a serious tone. "I have already faced a threat of an unknown scale, which led to the destruction of my home planet. Brainiac, also known as the Collector of Worlds, is cold, calculating, devoid of feelings and absolutely absorbed in his only goal: to collect information on every civilization of intelligent beings that he encounters. He shrank and stole Kandor, the capital of Krypton, my home planet. But he didn't stop there. The scariest thing about him is that when he collects all the information, he simply destroys this place so that in the future the information about it will not change."

How can I forget about this damned android? Now we will have to wait for this creature to invade Earth, otherwise we don't have enough of our own villains, you see. Once again I am convinced that this comic book universe is the most terrible in terms of survival. After all, the chance of staying alive until the end of all the events is negligible. Let's hope that luck will continue to favor me, without it I will definitely perish here.

"Don't worry about this Brainiac. If he sticks his nose here, we will meet him fully armed, and all together. You are not alone, Karen," I looked into her blue eyes, and a barely noticeable smile appeared on the girl's face.

She moved closer to me and laid her head on my shoulder. "Alex, I am not a threat," Superman's cousin said with heaviness in her voice. "Even though I am from the Kryptonian race, I remember almost nothing about my world. I was very young when my parents sent me in a capsule away from my home planet. I was asleep and arrived on Earth as a teenager. I knew everything about life, about history, about the planet and the Kryptonian population, thanks to the technology in the capsule that provided me with information about my kind, but I knew nothing about myself, because I had not lived on Krypton for conscious time, I was hardly a part of their existence. Only here did I finally feel that I was alive, creating my own memories. So,I think more like a human than a kryptonian."

"I believe you, Karen," I put my arm around the girl's shoulders.

"And I have no prejudices against alien inhabitants. I'm not a racist, so there's no need to think sad thoughts. I know that there are those in space who pose a threat, but I also believe that there are representatives of peaceful civilizations there, ready for mutual assistance and cooperation," I said, peering into the sparkling stars.

"Karen, what is it like to fly in the sky?"

The blonde looked at my face with surprised eyes, clearly not expecting such a question.

"It is ... Amazing!" the girl perked up. "It's like you gain freedom, and all the worries of the world fly by you."

"The feeling as if you could grab a piece of the sky with your hand, but it always eludes you. I experience this feeling every time I fly across the vast celestial dome." She paused for a moment and added. "Alex, if you want, I can give you this feeling of flight."

"No, I don't need that," I refused the generous offer. "I will experience this feeling myself... In the near future."

"But you can't fly, right?"

"But that doesn't mean it's impossible. There are plenty of ways to master the art of flight in this world. And I will find one of them."

"In that case, I will look forward to the moment when I can fly with you."

We chatted for a long time. Power Girl told me how exactly she arrived in this parallel universe. She also didn't forget to mention that in her original world, the entertainment industry was also in trouble. This is extremely valuable information for me. I knew that there were many parallel worlds in the comic book multiverse, and I was always worried that the situation with show business there might be completely different from this one.

Then I could be accused of coming from a parallel world and plagiarizing other people's work. But now I can breathe a sigh of relief, it seems that in terms of entertainment, parallel worlds have not gone too far either. I can continue to follow my plan.
