"Good morning, Heather," I greeted the secretary, heading to my office. "Is there anything unusual for me today, or is it the same old routine again?"
I was already prepared to hear another "nothing new", but to my surprise, Miss Brooks said something else.
"Sasha Bordeaux should be here at lunchtime - the person you asked to hire as a bodyguard," Heather reported the unexpected news. "After long negotiations, Bordeaux agreed to work for you, on the condition that her salary will be $ 1.2 million per year."
"This is all great, of course, but why am I only finding out about this this morning?"
"The negotiations ended last night. And today she left for Gotham to begin her duties. Please forgive me, I decided not to disturb you in the middle of the night over such a trivial matter."
"Um, okay... Even though this news is unexpected, it is very timely," I said, closing the door to the office behind me. From today on, I will have a personal bodyguard. This is very convenient. Yesterday I felt like someone had put a blade to my neck.
I don't know who exactly was aiming at me, but all this is wildly irritating me. Damn it, I'm still an ordinary person, and they've already attached a target to me. Neither food nor sleep are given to me. The presence of high-class security smooths out the rough edges somewhat. Moreover, I know Bordeaux's character; at least according to the comics, she was a person worthy of great trust.
I'll find out what she is like here when we meet. I really hope that we will work together. Having stopped all these discussions about my safety, I got down to work. To my "favorite" paperwork.

After some time, the director of the mobile games department, Barbara Gordon, honored me with her presence.
"Hello, Barb, how are you doing? How is the work going?"
"Hm, ask me about it tomorrow," answered Batgirl, sitting down at the table.
"Well, okay," I said, not knowing what else to add.
"Better look at what I have," she held out the phone to me. A beaming Renee looked at me from the screen, whom I kissed on the cheek.
"I dropped by to see my dad at the station this morning, and that photo has already raised everyone's ears there. Several junior officers cursed you for taking away the main beauty of the Gotham police department from them. It's always like this, I leave you alone and you're already stretching out your dirty paws for another skirt, you mutt," my girlfriend indignantly accused me, but it was clear from her eyes that this whole situation was wildly amusing. Barbara was aware of Detective Montoya's non-traditional orientation, and yet this photo embarrassed her a little.
"What, did you manage to win her heart after all?" Gordon voiced a completely logical hypothesis, not believing her own words. "It's impossible, she's after all... Hmm, but on the other hand, it's you, and with you nothing is impossible. What a dilemma. Eh, what else is going on in this precinct? How did Renee even let this happen? Although on the other hand, now her main secret is hidden even more reliably: she was on a date with such a wonderful guy like me! I'm sure she'll realize this closer to the end of the day, when she calms down."
"Stop making stupid guesses, I'll explain everything to you now…" And I told her the story of the previous evening, where I became the pseudo-boyfriend of a grief-stricken girl. Barbara was genuinely touched by the sad fate of Detective Montoya... for about twenty seconds, until her attention was drawn to a much funnier fact.
"So it turns out that you are now really the boyfriend of the unapproachable, unfeeling, cold, but at the same time charming Lady Renee? Ha-ha,They won't believe me," Barbara laughed at our difficult situation. "But still, Alex, what about your principle: no lies?"
"What's wrong with that? I haven't lied and I'm not going to lie."
"But you lied to Renee's parents!" Batgirl shouted indignantly.
"No. I didn't lie. Never," I said each letter clearly. "No matter how you look at it, the detective lied..."
"Wait, you gave her the go-ahead! You agreed to pretend to be her boyfriend."
"But I wasn't the one lying."
"Wait, sooner or later you'll have to meet her mother, and what will you do then? You promised Renee, which means you'll have to resort to lying, you won't be able to get out of it. And besides, since you agreed to help the detective, and now you're claiming the opposite, doesn't it mean that you lied to her too?" our red-head tried to put all the pieces together.
"Barb, the answer is right there. I just need to be a real guy for Detective Montoya. Then everything will fall into place."
"So you won't lie, because you'll tell her mom the truth, and thus fulfill your promise to her?"
"It is exactly like that. That's exactly why I asked her to postpone the meeting via online chat as long as possible. Time, I just need a little time….."
"Do you really think you can make a lesbian fall in love with you? If you succeed, this event will go down in history," the girl said in a sublime tone. "Eh, there is only one thing that worries me: most likely, you will succeed. And this can't help but piss me off! I think it's better not to comment on this." Gordon waved her hand dismissively. "Better talk about your bodyguard. Heather said that she would arrive today?"
"Yes…."
"I understand why you chose a woman. With your character, you would never agree to have some boor following you around. I just can't figure out why her? Are you somehow connected to this Sasha Bordeaux?"
"No, at least not in the way you thought. You could say that I once again used my unusual knowledge and ended up hiring this woman. My choice was due to the fact that she is the person to whom we can tell our secrets without fear of their disclosure. And she is, on top of everything else, a wonderful fighter and simply an excellent master of her craft."
"Really? You've really intrigued me. After your description, I simply can't help but spar with this interesting person. I can't wait to see who will ultimately win between us. Okay, I have to get to work…"
My office was empty again, and my eyes returned to looking at the waste paper scattered across the table. With the pile of work that had fallen on my shoulders, I didn't even notice how it was midday. While I was in deep nirvana with the paper sheets, there was a knock on the office door.
They knocked loudly, but not too loudly… With my permission, a beautiful business lady in a strict black suit, a white shirt with a stand-up collar and a black tie entered the room, her shoes polished to a shine.
The girl did not have a single piece of jewelry. She stopped in front of the table, adopting the bearing of a military person, and began to examine me point-blank with her intent gaze. She almost exactly matched the image in my head, except for one tiny detail. And that detail is hidden in her long hair. As far as I remember, in the comics she always had her hair cut short. I wonder what happened here?
"Sasha Bordeaux, I take it," I could not hide my happy smile. "Glad to welcome you here. I am Alex Reath, and it is me you will have to protect in the future."
