Chapter 5 - Academy

Arriving infront of a massive gate sourounded by massive red walls a city inside a city build like a fortress so this is the famous Academy.

The snow was slowly falling to the ground. It was cold and silent in front of the Academy gates.

Except for me, there wasn't anyone around.

Finally, the gates began to open. The giant, ridiculously thick sheet of reinforced metal slowly descended, creating a long bridge.

I looked ahead with determination and excitmend for what is about to come.

Rembering the advice Master Jet gave me in a sense it was just the same as what she told Sunless just a little different.

Makes me think she does that with any outskirt rat, well technically I am also one but since I just appeared here right after my nightmare and I probably would fit better as an outskirt rat with no legal documents or things in that regard.

---------------------------------------------------

Once inside the hall, I understood two things.

Firstly, everyone was well-dressed and in possession of a suitcase, a duffel bag, or at least a backpack carrying their personal belongings.

They were obviously coming prepared, most likely from home, sent off by their families. someone like me, who came empty-handed and wearing simple police-issued clothes, were not a norm, but actually an eye-catching anomaly.

'Right. That makes sense.'

'I rember sunny talking about something like that but thats beside the point.'

'Those teenagers where desperate to talk to one another to discuss their nightmare well basically to gain validation from one another thats what humans do trying to prove theirselves superior in anyway they can to their fellow human even if most of us do it subconciusly.'

As for me I dont really care about this stuff as long as no one bothers me on pourpess then thats fine by me.

Looking around the hall I spotted two indviduals who I was quite familiar in a sense knew about their future more then they do themselves,Sunless a thin pale youth deep black eyes and black hair to match he had quite effeminate characteristics.

Nephis a tall, slender princess with striking features l clear grey eyes and silver hair.

And right beside Sunless sat probably one of the most hated character in the book Cassie the blind Prophet.

She had pale blond hair, big blue eyes, and an exquisite face. She looks like a beautiful porcelain doll.

I gave a quick look to everyone around me as I turned around and made my way towardsy dorm room.

To my surprise I had the entire room to my self.

It had a bed with a soft mattress, a table, a dresser, and even a separate bathroom! The materials were new and aesthetically pleasing, the air crisp and sterile. It was warm inside, and the outer wall was equipped with a hidden screen that seamlessly imitated a wide window, opening to a picturesque vista of a snowy park.

There were even several sets of clothes with the Academy emblem provided to him for free.

Sitting down on my bed I decided it was time to look through the memories I recieved.

Summoning my runes and looking through the memories I found the only two memories I have as of now.

[Vow of the Fractured Oath]

Rank: Ascended

Type: Armor

Description : Soul Remnant of Thren Vallis, the Knight-Commander who shattered his vow to save a fallen kingdom from within.

This is no simple armor—it is a burial shroud of memory and war. It remembers fallen empires, betrayed vows, and the silence of space itself. Worn by a knight who once bent the battlefield with both blade and soul, the armor now wraps around the user.

Effects:[ Riftborne Shell ]

The armor distorts incoming force and space around Users body, reducing the impact of physical and soul-based attacks. Projectiles may bend or miss entirely as localized space subtly shifts. Against long-range or spatial attacks, its resistance is even greater.

So withouth further ado I summoned the armor as it slowly materialiesed around my body.

The armor appears less as forged metal and more as a sculpted void—an obsidian shell wrapped around me . Each plate is a seamless piece of darkness, layered like interlocking fragments of a broken star, faintly iridescent along the edges with shades of deep violet and mournful blue, as if reflecting light from a dying galaxy.

Fine, spiderweb-like cracks run along the surface of the armor—fractures glowing faintly with shifting starlight. These aren't signs of damage, but remnants of the shattering vow that birthed it. The light within pulses irregularly, like the heartbeat of something long dead but not yet forgotten.

The pauldrons arc outward like broken wings or shards of celestial armor, jagged and asymmetrical, one side subtly warped as if frozen mid-collapse. The chestplate bears the ghost of an insignia, barely visible beneath a translucent layer of soulsteel—distorted, as though submerged beneath a black ocean.

From the back of the armor, long tattered streamers of dark fabric trail into the air, floating and twisting unnaturally, as though underwater or resisting gravity. They leave behind faint streaks of pale light, like afterimages in space.

The armor makes no sound when it moves—only a faint resonance, like the hum of a distant starship or the whisper of wind through a crypt. Those who stare too long at it feel an aching pressure behind their eyes, as if the armor remembers something the world has tried to forget.

The Ability it has is crazy good I did not expect to luck out on this one it will be of immense help in the future too.

Ist durable lightweight does not make a sound and it looks cool plus its an armor I can use nearly my entire life wont need to change it.

Now next on the list is the sword.

[ Sword of the Forgotten King ]

Rank: Ascended

Type: Weapon

Ability: [Throne of Decay] (Corruption Effect)

[ The blade carries not just the king's memory, but his curse: the rot of all that was trusted and true.

Every wound dealt by the sword plants a soul-deep infection—a decaying curse that spreads from the inside out.

The victim's essence begins to unravel. Flesh blackens, veins turn gray, and armor corrodes from within. Healing is slowed drastically, and if left untreated, the rot can cripple limbs, cloud the mind, or cause soul fractures.

Against monsters and Awakened alike, the curse grows with each strike. The more one resists, the deeper the decay sets in.

The User can turn this ability on and off.]

So with that said I decided to summon the sword as it appeared in my hand.

The sword is both elegant and harrowing—a long, two-handed weapon that can collapse down to a one-handed form depending on the wielder's need. The blade is forged from Nullsteel, a rare metal that absorbs ambient essence, rendering it matte black with a subtle shimmer like starlight in the void. The edges are razor-thin, almost impossibly so, bordered with faint veins of shifting crimson that twist like dying embers beneath glass.

At the heart of the blade—where the hilt meets steel—sits a broken eye-like gem, fractured down the center, set into a sigil that refuses to be seen clearly. The guard takes the shape of a fragmented crown, bent backward as though crushed by time

So this is it I thought as I decided to use the one handed version of my sword fitting tightly on my hand the weight of the blade seemingly perfect as I swung the sword around a few times to get a feeling of it.

It seems I am quite prepared for the upcoming winter solistics.

Knowing what is about to come I unsummoned the blade as I lay there on my bed thinking about what the future entails now with me in it.

My atribute [Fateless] coming to mind and what it means for me.

Slowly while thinking about the future I gently drifter to sleep.
