Chapter 4 - The Distress Signal

Zara sits by the campfire in the shed. Yoda sits contentedly, watching the fire. The swamp ambiance outside is desolate.

Yoda sits idly, his glossy white eyes reflect the fire. At sunrise, he taps her head with a wooden cane. "Signal for help has been sent,"

"A signal? From where?" Zara sits up. "In need of our help they are," Yoda says.

"How was their signal transmitted to such a desolate planet?" she inquires. "Their distress the Force carried. On my ship, we will go," Yoda walks over to his ship.

"That thing won't fly us all the way there," Zara says. Yoda chuckles mischievously. Piloting the ship, Yoda flips a few buttons. "You're a pro at flying. Were you once a pilot?" She asks. "Long ago," Yoda reminisces.

The leaves and branches that accumulated on the ship over the years fall as the ship starts up and hovers off the ground. It flies off the swamp planet that is Dagobah and travels across the stars.

Zara looks in awe at the galaxy, this occasion is different from being on an Imperial ship. Guided by the Force, Yoda pilots the ship to a planet a few lightyears away.

On the planet, the ship lands on a grassy hill. Enchanted by the dancing grass flowing from the wind, Zara plucks one out to inspect it. This grassland planet has mountains and grasslands, it's beautiful. Nothing like sand for miles and miles.

"Is the person who sent the distress signal through the Force here?" Zara looks into the distant mountains. "Further away I sense the signal. Here it is not," Yoda gets off the ship.

Below the hill on the flat mountain ground, a wrecked pilot ship with orange and white paint emits smoke. "Recently the crash must have been," Yoda says. "Do you need any assistance?" Zara asks below. A pilot emerges from the wreckage, shielding his eyes from the sun above.

"Yeah!" The pilot shouts back. Climbing down the hill, they make their way over to the pilot. "Cautious of the pilot you must be. Trust anyone we cannot," Yoda says. "We are running from the Empire, so we might as well expect some trouble," Zara replies.

"This piece of rubble won't start back up. I must have had a terrible landing. By the way, I'm a starpilot, my name is Rex," The pilot shakes their hands. After introducing themselves, Rex goes back to try and fix the ship. Upon closer look, the pilot's ship has a red symbol on it, the symbol of the Alliance.

"Fighting for the Resistance are you?" Yoda asks.

"We can talk somewhere more remote," Rex replies.

Boarding Yoda's ship, Rex points into the distance, at a mountain. Upon landing on the mountain, they enter a dark cave.

As they sit in silence, Rex begins, "I have been running away from the Empire for years. My ship crashed here not too long ago as I narrowly escaped Imperial forces. Since I could remember I have always wanted to be a pilot, so I became a Rebel, fighting for the Republic, and this is where my ambition led me. I thought the Resistance stood a chance against the Empire, but we are outnumbered,"

"The Resistance needs all the help it can get, but with the numbers we have, there are those out there still fighting. As a pilot, you must have seen a few victories by the Resistance to keep you fighting," Zara says.

"Fighting for the Republic almost got me killed, and countless others have fallen," Rex says.

Still trying to convince Rex to join the fight, Zara thinks of something. "Yoda and I came to this planet because we got a distress call from one of our allies in the Resistance. We could use your help," She says.

"Your ally is better off deserting the Resistance. I'm done fighting," Rex replies. "Think it over. We could always use a pilot," Zara says before standing.

Yoda and Zara leave the cave and stand outside on the flat surface of the mountain. The clouds darken as a storm approaches.

"There is still hope, Rex and countless others still haven't fully given up on fighting. The Alliance is still fighting to restore the Republic. The Resistance can only succeed against the Empire if we have enough numbers," Zara says.

"Our numbers we must advance to stand a chance. The one who sent the distress signal we must find," Yoda says.
