Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 – Envy, Jealousy, and Hate

Shohoku High School Teaching Building– First-Year Class 6

The moment Qing Junce and Shimizu Kanon stepped into the classroom, the room—just seconds ago filled with chatter—fell into a dead silence.

Every single eye turned toward the door.

The boys, without fail, stared at Shimizu Kanon.

"Whoa… she's gorgeous…"

"How can someone be that cute?!"

"Am I dreaming? Did I die and go to heaven?"

"I think I'm in love already… wonder if she's single?"

Meanwhile, the girls?

Their eyes were all locked on Qing Junce.

"Holy crap… he's hot."

"Where did this tall, handsome god come from?"

"He looks so cool. I feel safe just looking at him…"

"I've decided—I'm going to make him my boyfriend."

In an instant, Qing Junce and Shimizu Kanon became the twin epicenters of attention.

But the awe didn't last long—because awe quickly gave way to something else:

Envy. Jealousy. Hate.

The boys glared daggers at Qing Junce.

The girls sized up Shimizu Kanon with thinly veiled hostility.

And why?

Because the two of them had walked in holding hands.

Qing Junce didn't pay anyone the slightest attention. He strolled in, found an empty seat, and sat down like he owned the place.

Shimizu Kanon took the seat beside him.

A few boys in the back exchanged glances, clearly itching to challenge Qing Junce's presence. But none of them moved.

The aura he gave off—heavy, suffocating—shut them down before they could even try.

Even the boldest girls, though giddy and lovestruck, kept their distance.

In that moment, the classroom settled into a strange sense of harmony: attraction mixed with fear.

Shimizu Kanon noticed it all. She felt the weight of everyone's gaze—and the fear they had toward Qing Junce.

She wasn't surprised.

It wasn't the first time.

She couldn't tell if he did it on purpose… or if it was just the way he was now.

Was it a defense mechanism?

Did he just hate being bothered?

She didn't know. But the corner of her mouth curled up slightly, expression unreadable.

Soon after, the homeroom teacher arrived.

It was the first day of school, so he just went through the usual introductions and basics. Qing Junce didn't pay much attention.

He didn't even know when it happened, but at some point—he'd fallen asleep.

Time passed.

Then, noise started pouring in from the hallway outside.

The sudden commotion woke him up. He cracked one eye open, half-dazed.

The voices outside were getting louder.

"Hey, hey, hurry up! This is gonna be good!"

"Come on! Get over here quick!"

"What's going on?"

"Someone challenged the captain to a one-on-one!"

"In the gym! It's a freshman with red hair!"

Hearing that, Qing Junce's sleepiness vanished.

He remembered this.

This exact situation had happened in the original Slam Dunk story.

"Ace, it looks like someone is going to play a basketball game. Let's go and watch together!" Shimizu Kanon suggested.

Qing Junce looked uninterested and said lazily, "I don't want to! What's so interesting about that kind of competition?"

"Let's go! Let's go! Don't you want to join the basketball club? It's a good opportunity to take a look at the level of our school's basketball club!" Shimizu Kanon said.

Without waiting for his reply, she grabbed him by the arm and tugged him out of his seat.

Qing Junce had no choice but to follow.

Shohoku High School Basketball Court

By the time they arrived, the gym was already packed.

The game had started.

"Ah! It's already started. Really, it's all your fault! Ace." Shimizu Kanon said with some blame.

Qing Junce half-closed his eyes and selectively filtered out Shimizu Kanon's words.

Kanon just sighed. She'd been through this too many times to stay mad.

Hmph…

She pouted and turned her attention to the court.

Two figures were locked in a heated clash.

One of them was the redhead, Qing Junce had seen earlier—Sakuragi Hanamichi.

The other had a square jaw, dark skin, and bulging muscles rippling beneath his sleeveless shirt.

Qing Junce narrowed his eyes. "That must be Akagi Takenori… With this appearance, no wonder Sakuragi Hanamichi calls him a 'Gorilla.'"

On the court, Akagi Takenori dribbled past Sakuragi Hanamichi.

Sakuragi was chasing after him desperately.

"Whoa!" Kanon gasped. "Wow! He runs so fast, Ace, look, there is actually someone whos nearly on par with you!"

Qing Junce gave a dismissive scoff. "He's still got a long way to go."

Kanon just shook her head. When did you get this cocky…?

Bang!

A loud crash suddenly rocked the gym.

Everyone turned toward the sound.

Qing Junce and Kanon looked too—just in time to see something… unpleasant.

"Ahhh!" Kanon screamed and quickly covered her eyes.

Qing Junce's mouth twitched.

On the court, both Sakuragi and Akagi had fallen to the ground.

But that wasn't the issue.

The real issue was…

Akagi Takenori's pants were off, revealing his white... oh, no, it should be his dark buttocks that were exposed.

Moonlight. Broad daylight. Full exposure.

In that moment, the entire gym went silent.

Then—

Boom!

The place exploded in laughter.

People doubled over. Tears streamed. The chaos was instant.

After a while, the game resumed.

The following plot is similar to the original.

Sakuragi Hanamichi used a trick and beat Akagi Takenori with a dunk.

Sakuragi Hanamichi's final human wall defense was still somewhat good.

Qing Junce had to admit—it was solid.

If it were him, he could've countered it, but it'd still take a bit of effort.

Sakuragi still had a long way to go. But there was something real there.

Still, Qing Junce wasn't impressed enough to stay.

He turned to leave. "Let's go, Kanon."

"Ace…" Kanon gave Sakuragi and Akagi one last glance, then followed him out of the gym.

Once she caught up, she asked, "So? What did you think?"

Qing Junce raised a brow. "Of what?"

"The basketball team, duh!" Kanon said. "The captain's decent. But I wonder about the rest of the team…"

She paused, then added, "Shohoku was knocked out in the first round last year, right? So I doubt the others are that amazing."

Qing Junce shrugged. "Doesn't matter. I'm not counting on them anyway."

"You can't say that!" Kanon pouted. "If you're joining the basketball club, you've got to get along with your teammates."

Qing Junce scratched his ear, looking annoyed. "Yeah, yeah. Got it."

Kanon suddenly thought of something and grinned mischievously. "Oh~~, by the way, Ace~~ I already submitted your club application for you... Teehee." ☆~ (˃̵ڡ'˶ )

Qing Junce: "…" (¬_¬ )
