Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

"Xixi, what are you doing?" Wei Xiangqin's voice trembled with confusion and growing concern. "You're still sick! Where do you think you're going?"

"I'm going to see Dad." Gu Xi said, her voice firm despite the dizziness that washed over her. As she slipped her shoes on, the world tilted around her. She gripped the edge of the bed, waiting for the sensation to pass.

"Xixi, don't be ridiculous!" Wei Xiangqin stepped forward, her hands trembling as she tried to steady her daughter. "You're still unwell. You can't go anywhere like this."

"Mom, I have to go!" Gu Xi's voice grew desperate as she grabbed her mother's hand. "Zhang Yue is a bad man. There's something wrong with the demolition site, and I have to stop it!"

Wei Xiangqin stared at her daughter, still struggling to understand. "You're just a child. How could you know about these adult matters?"

Gu Xi's mind raced. She had to think of something to convince her mother. "Mom, do you know why I fainted with a fever?" she began, her words coming out quickly. "Yesterday, I went to Dad's company, and I overheard Zhang Yue talking on the phone with someone. They were planning to ruin my father once the demolition is done today. He's in danger!"

"What?" Wei Xiangqin's face drained of color as she took in her daughter's words. "Is what you're saying true?"

"Of course it's true!" Gu Xi nodded quickly, her voice urgent as she pressed on. "When I heard them talking, I tried to tell Dad, but he didn't come home last night. I'm afraid they're planning to set him up!"

Wei Xiangqin's hands shook as the weight of Gu Xi's words sank in. Her heart raced. "I... I can't just sit here," she murmured, her mind already racing to action. "We need to stop them."

"I'll go with you to the construction site," she said, her voice resolute.

But there was a problem. The driver had taken the car to her second aunt's house, and with no other transportation, the only option left was to take a taxi from the hospital entrance.

As the two women rushed towards the exit, the nurse at the front desk saw them and hurried over.

"Bed 19! Where are you going? You haven't completed the discharge procedures yet!" The nurse called out, her voice full of concern as she stopped them in their tracks.
