Chapter 41 - WHAT’S WRONG, ANA?

The lights went out in an instant.

Sara seized the moment.

In a flash of controlled fury, she killed the man who had been dragging Ana away the one who was about to torture her. At the same time, Anthony grabbed his sister, covering her mouth to keep her silent, and led her to a hidden room away from the chaos.

Nick had already called the police. Now he was holding Adam down with both hands. When the lights came back on, Adam began to struggle, but Nick didn't let go.

Screams echoed through the room at the sight of the corpse. Moments later, the police burst in, arresting Adam, the older men, and the enslaved girls.

Ana thrashed in Anthony's arms, trying to break free. But he spoke to her softly calmly. As the lights illuminated the space, both twins locked eyes for the first time in years.

Anthony pulled her into a desperate embrace. But Ana barely responded. She touched him faintly, then pulled away, almost disgusted.

— Anthony... what are you doing here?

— Ana... we came for you, sister.

— We came?

— Our parents and I—we've been looking for you for the last four years.

Anthony reached for her again, but she recoiled, her expression hardening.

— What's wrong, Ana?

— It's too late, Anthony. That's what's wrong.

— Too late? What are you talking about?

— You didn't look for me the way you should've. That's why it took so long. But it doesn't matter now. I'm not the same girl you left behind. Leave me alone.

She turned her back on him and walked away. Anthony was stunned. His heart cracked at her words. He moved to follow her, but a police officer stepped in, grabbing Ana firmly by the arm. She fought back, panicked searching the room with her eyes, until she found Adam. Her breath hitched.

— Ana! Wait!" Anthony shouted again.

Adam met Ana's gaze—cold and commanding. That look alone triggered a wave of dread in her. She clenched her jaw, lips trembling. As they were brought closer, Adam leaned in and whispered:

— Don't worry, Ana. I'll fix this. We'll be free again soon. Just keep your mouth shut.

Sara didn't let him finish. Her hand cracked across his face with all the force of a mother's fury.

— Don't you dare speak to my daughter like that, you sick bastard!

Adam smirked, mocking her and Nick as the officers dragged him away in cuffs. Ana lowered her gaze when Anthony spoke again.

— Ana… like I told you we came for you. We never stopped looking.

Nick moved closer and gently embraced her.

Her body stiffened. Her hands were cuffed behind her back, but her eyes turned away coldly.

— Remove those cuffs,— Nick ordered —She's my daughter. She was kidnapped four years ago.

The officer complied. Nick tried to pull her into a comforting hug.

— We've been so worried about you, sweetheart. We never stopped

— Don't touch me — Ana growled, pushing her father away.

The room fell silent, stunned. Adam, from across the room, smiled wickedly. His revenge was complete.

— Ana,— Sara said with steel in her voice —you need to speak. Tell the police everything you know about Adam.

— Yes — Nick added. — Start with where you were all this time.

But Ana said nothing. Only silence. Then, finally, she spoke:

—I won't say anything without my lawyer present.

—Sister…— Anthony murmured, heartbroken.

— Then speak — Nick said calmly. — I'm a lawyer and I'll be yours.

Father and daughter locked eyes.vThen she spoke, cold and sharp:

— I don't know who kidnapped me. And I don't know where I was kept.

— What? How is that even possible?

— They blindfolded me. I didn't see a thing.

Nick and Anthony stared at her, utterly speechless. But Sara…

Sara understood. She felt it.

She knew what Ana was hiding.

— You're lying, — Anthony whispered —That's the best excuse you've got?

— I told you. I didn't see anything. I was blindfolded.

A police officer took Ana gently by the arm.

— We're taking her to the station with the others.

Anthony tried to follow, to reach for her again.

— Please, Ana. No one believes that lie. Just tell the truth!

Ana turned sharply.

— The truth? The truth is our parents chose you over me. They forgot I existed. That's why they abandoned me.

—Are you serious right now? — Anthony asked, stunned.

Nick was speechless.

But Sara…

She felt her own trauma rise to the surface.

She had lived those same feelings once. She knew this pain.

— That's enough,— the officer interrupted. "We'll continue this at the station."

Adam laughed quietly to himself. His twisted joy was undeniable as another officer escorted him out.

Nick and Anthony looked ready to scream, ready to shake Ana until she came to her senses. But Sara stopped them, raising a hand. Let her go. Let her speak when she's ready. Nick paused. Her pained, compassionate expression brought him back to the past.

—Ana… what happened to you?

— Get out of my head, Anthony. Stop trying to dig through me.

— You know our parents love you. Especially Dad.

— Just… stay away from me.

— Ana… it's me… it's Anthony…

— I know, brother. I know…

For a brief moment, the bond between them sparked again.

And Anthony felt it—her anguish, her fear, the horror that Adam had burned into her soul.

— Ana… my sister…

He saw the real Ana.

The one who cried quietly inside.

The one who trembled in the dark.

The one who thought she was unworthy of love.

— Don't look at me, Anthony… please… I'm filthy.

And just like that, the connection vanished again.

— Ana,— Anthony gasped, hands trembling. He turned to his parents, devastated. —She's terrified. And in so much pain…

Sara pulled him into a tight embrace, her own heart breaking.

They all got into the car.

Silence filled the drive to the police station.

But the echoes of Ana's torment were louder than any scream.
