Chapter 2 - Second Life: Second Fate Chapter 2

PART 1: WHITE

Chapter 1 - The Gunshot Echoing Through the Street

The darkness had fallen over the city...

There was a dense fog in the air...

The surroundings had become eerily quiet...

On a night when no one would want to be out, two men were walking through the narrow streets. They had semi-automatic pistols strapped to their waists. They were trying to move stealthily, especially through the shadowy corners. After walking for a while, they stopped to take a break. One turned to the other and asked:

- How far to the target?

- Not far; about 1.5 kilometers...

- Good.

Then, he turned and lit a cigarette, lost in thought:

This is so frustrating...

"How many times has it been now? I've killed countless people so far." Actually, he hadn't wanted this fate. Life circumstances had forced him into doing this.

- Damn!

He lit another cigarette. "To get by..." he thought. "What else could I do?" This had been his life since he was young. He had started this job at an early age. He used to feel regret when killing people, but now, his emotions had completely hardened.

He threw his cigarette on the ground and crushed it with his foot:

- When will it end—

What?

A gun was pointed at him. He stood there, speechless. He had never expected such a thing.

- I'm sorry, but I have to do this, Mahey Hilua. The boss gave me direct orders to kill you. This mission was actually a decoy; you were the real target.

- W-Wait, why would he want that?

- I would tell you if I knew, but I don't, sorry. Anyway, no point in wasting time talking, I'll finish it quickly.

- No, stop—

BANG!

The gunshot echoed through the street...

Mahey fell to the ground like a lifeless log.

His vision blurred, and he mumbled:

- Bastard, why didn't he shoot me in the head...

He felt an incredible pain in his chest.

In his final moments, he tried to comfort himself:

- At least I'll be able to escape this shitty life...

The shitty life he was referring to flashed before his eyes:

He had lost his mother when he was a little kid. His beloved mother...

The one who always taught him to be a good person...

But what about his father? He had never seen his father. He had no siblings. His aunt had raised him. He had been forced to work at a young age. Desperate, he had started stealing, and when he grew older, he became a contract killer. He never got to experience school life. His job kept him away from society. And now, this bad life was coming to an end:

- I should be happy about this.

Yet, deep down, there was regret:

Regret for the things he could never have in this world...

Family, friends, and love, these regrets...

Regret for not finding a purpose in life...

And now, he would never be able to have these things...

As he thought about all this, his eyelids slowly closed...

And he mumbled one last time:

If I get a second life, I will never live like this again, I will be a good person and fulfill my dreams!
