Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Calm Before the Surge

The letter arrived exactly one week later.

A sleek envelope marked with the U.A. insignia, faintly pulsing with electric energy—just like in the show.

Ren Takami sat at his desk in his small apartment. His new guardian, an old retired teacher who barely spoke, wasn't home. The air was quiet—too quiet.

He slid a thumb under the envelope flap and opened it.

A moment later, a hologram flickered to life.

"I AM HERE!"

All Might appeared in his shining glory, arms crossed, smile bright. Exactly as Ren had remembered him from his old world. But here? Real. Living. Powerful... for now.

"Ren Takami, congratulations! You passed the U.A. Entrance Exam with a high combat score and an impressive number of rescues. That final Zero Pointer takedown? Very heroic of you. You also earned 35 rescue points, bringing your total to 91 points! Welcome to the Hero Course!"

Ren smiled, slow and sharp.

"It begins."

A Few Days Later – First Day at U.A.

Class 1-A. The place where legends were born.

Ren walked in quietly, scanning the classroom. He noticed everyone he expected:

Midoriya sitting nervously at his desk.

Bakugo glaring at everyone.

Iida Tenya organizing his pens.

Momo Yaoyorozu reading a book.

He caught her eye. She gave a polite nod. He winked back, just enough to make her blink in surprise.

"Flirting. Step one: intrigue."

He sat in the back, next to the window. The "cool guy" seat.

A piece of chalk clinked against the blackboard.

"Sit down and shut up."

A tired voice filled the room as a yellow sleeping bag wriggled at the front.

Shota Aizawa. Eraser Head.

"Put on these uniforms," he said, tossing a stack of gym clothes. "We're doing the Quirk Apprehension Test."

---

Training Field E – Quirk Apprehension Test

The class gathered in the field wearing U.A.'s standard P.E. uniforms. Aizawa stood before them, arms crossed and eyes unreadable.

"Let's see what your Quirks are made of."

One by one, he explained each test: the 50-meter dash, grip strength, long jump, ball throw, side-to-side steps, seated toe touch, and distance run.

Ren took it all in, carefully hiding his smile.

This was his moment to measure his progress.

First Test: 50-Meter Dash

Iida set the standard with a burst of speed using his engines: 3.04 seconds.

Ren stepped onto the line, body relaxed.

"Begin."

The moment the word left Aizawa's lips, Ren's body compressed with water-enhanced muscle movement. He shot forward with a burst of mist behind his heels, like a human bullet gliding on vapor.

2.79 seconds.

Iida's jaw clenched. Bakugo narrowed his eyes.

Ren just walked back calmly, giving Ochaco a small grin as he passed.

---

Second Test: Grip Strength

Most of the class landed in the average range. Bakugo crushed the device with over 900 kg.

Ren stepped up next. He gathered water into his arms—not too much, just enough to enhance density and muscle tightness.

705 kg.

Strong. Not suspiciously so. Exactly as he wanted.

Aizawa narrowed his eyes slightly. Ren met his gaze, blank and relaxed.

"Good control," the underground hero muttered.

---

Third Test: Ball Throw

Ochaco went first, using her Zero Gravity: Infinity.

Then Bakugo: 705.2 meters, with an explosion.

Ren picked up the ball, weighed it in his hand. He whispered under his breath.

"Compress."

The water in his blood surged, reinforcing every muscle group. He swung his arm back and hurled the ball.

749.5 meters.

The class turned. Whispers followed.

Ren just shrugged, scratching his neck with a grin.

"Guess I had a good breakfast."

---

The Other Tests

Side-to-side steps: enhanced water joints gave him unmatched flexibility.

Long jump: a burst of hydro-pressure pushed him further than most.

Distance run: his body didn't sweat. He didn't get tired. Solar absorption during the morning warmed him from the inside.

By the end, only a few truly stood out.

Top Performers:

1. Ren Takami – Balanced excellence.

2. Shoto Todoroki – Cold and precise.

3. Bakugo Katsuki – Explosive but reckless.

4. Momo Yaoyorozu – Smart and adaptable.

5. Iida Tenya – Fast and disciplined.

---

End of the Day

Ren sat on the rooftop of the school building as the sun began to dip behind the horizon. The wind blew through his hair, and the last rays warmed his skin.

He drew a small swirl of water in his palm and watched it dance. Below him, the class was laughing, bonding.

He liked them. But he wouldn't trust them. Not yet.

Not until he was strong enough. Not until he uncovered every secret of Hydro Core.

---

Aizawa's POV

He marked the test results, eyes pausing on Ren's sheet. The boy was... odd.

Friendly, but distant. Powerful, but restrained. Nothing about his performance was too flashy, but Aizawa could tell. He was hiding something.

He didn't know what.

But he would find out.
