Chapter 217 - Chapter 218: The Technique of Yomi Rebirth

A dazzling radiance burst forth from Kaito's Rinnegan as he waved his hand. Two coffins sprang open, revealing a large and a small skeleton inside.

Then, he clapped his hands together and formed the "Snake" seal, chanting in a deep voice,

"Yomi Rebirth!"

...

In the underworld of Yomi, a swirling black vortex appeared high in the sky.

Two yellow, cloud-like souls were suddenly pulled from a vast sea of spirits, as if yanked by an unseen force, and floated up toward the vortex.

Only when the souls entered the black whirlpool did it gradually shrink and finally vanish.

...

In the real world—

As Kaito activated the Yomi Rebirth technique, the remains of Zephyr's wife and son were enveloped by a glowing green energy. Under its nourishment, flesh began to form over the two skeletons.

In just moments, the bones transformed completely into the forms of a woman and a young boy. Their cheeks were rosy, and they looked nothing like the dead—they appeared as if simply sleeping.

Seeing this miraculous sight—dead flesh and bone restored to life—Zephyr stood frozen as though struck by lightning. His legs involuntarily took two steps back, and he didn't dare approach.

And it wasn't over yet.

The black vortex reappeared in the sky above the real world, and the two yellow cloud-like souls shot out from it—Zephyr's wife and son.

But they didn't immediately return to their bodies. Instead, they floated toward the stunned Zephyr, circling gently around him.

From the souls, Zephyr felt a long-lost sense of warmth and intimacy. Especially from the smaller one—there was an unmistakable bond of blood that resonated deep within his soul.

Even though they appeared only as two puffs of golden mist, he knew exactly who they were.

Tears streamed down his face. He reached out a trembling hand to touch them—but it passed right through.

Kaito slowly lowered his hands from the seal and exhaled a heavy breath, silently marveling at the immense chakra cost of this technique.

The Yomi Rebirth—true to its name—was akin to the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. Its purpose was to bring the dead back to life.

It was a technique Kaito had developed by modifying the original Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique after acquiring the powers of the Yomi Yomi no Mi.

As everyone knew, the Rinnegan allowed one to perform the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique, but at a deadly cost.

In the Naruto world, Nagato died after using the technique to revive the people of Konoha. Obito also used it under Black Zetsu's control to revive Uchiha Madara.

The only reason Obito didn't die immediately was because he had once been the Jinchūriki of the Ten Tails. Madara had even said that despite the Ten Tails being extracted from him, Obito's body still retained residual Six Paths power.

That, combined with the strong regenerative vitality from Hashirama's cells, allowed Obito to delay death for a time—but he was still left on the verge of death.

Knowing how dangerous the technique was, Kaito didn't use it recklessly. That's why he deliberately sought out the Yomi Yomi no Mi and used its power to perfect the technique.

The greatest difference between Yomi Rebirth and Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique was that it didn't cost the user their life.

It was essentially half of the original technique—reforming the decayed physical body.

As for the soul, Kaito borrowed the Yomi Yomi no Mi's power to recall the souls of the dead directly from the Yomi world. That's why the King of Hell didn't appear during the ritual.

This dramatically reduced the chakra burden and completely removed the death risk for the caster.

This was Kaito's first use of the Yomi Rebirth, and from the looks of it, it was an even bigger cheat than the Samsara technique.

People say Orochimaru likes to scam the Shinigami in his deals—Kaito didn't even bother bargaining. He just straight up robbed him.

What could anyone say? With the power of the Rinnegan, you could do whatever the hell you wanted!

...

Kaito slowly walked over to Zephyr and gently patted his shoulder.

"Don't worry, Zephyr-sensei," he said softly. "Let them return to their bodies first."

Zephyr nodded blankly. His mind was overwhelmed, lost in chaos.

The two soul clouds immediately floated over to Kaito upon seeing him, drawn by the soothing aura emanating from him.

That aura came from the Yomi chill surrounding Kaito's body. In its natural state, it had a powerful nourishing effect on souls—it was like a cradle for the dead.

Kaito released two wisps of Yomi cold energy, wrapping the souls and guiding them gently back into the two coffins.

As soon as the souls reentered their bodies, the woman and child abruptly opened their eyes and leapt out of the coffins, rushing toward Zephyr.

"Darling!"

"Daddy!"

Zephyr stood dumbfounded as the two ran toward him. He had lost count of how many times he had heard those voices in his dreams.

Tears gushed from his eyes. He fell to his knees and opened his arms.

Thud!

His wife and son dove into his arms at the same time. Zephyr clutched them tightly, overwhelmed by the warmth of their living bodies. This man—who had spent a lifetime embodying justice—now broke down in sobs.

The memories of his wife and child had always weighed on his heart like two massive stones, suffocating him.

And now, Zephyr cried—cried his heart out.

Because of the power of the Fruit, his voice was thunderously loud. His weeping echoed across the entire Marine Headquarters.

...

In the HQ's main building, Sengoku was so startled by Zephyr's wailing that he dropped his teacup—it shattered across the floor.

He immediately rushed out of his office to find out what had happened.

But someone beat him to it.

Buzz!

A blinding beam of golden light erupted from another office window.

It was Kizaru—who just so happened to be stationed at HQ today.

Known for constantly clashing with Zephyr, this very student of his was the first to rush toward the sound of Zephyr's cries.

He activated the maximum speed of his Glint-Glint Fruit and raced off in the direction of the cemetery.

Trailing in the air behind him was something rarely heard from Kizaru—a voice filled with urgency:

"Zephyr-sensei!!!"

...

In the skies above the Marine HQ cemetery, countless beams of light converged. Kizaru's figure materialized. He looked down at the graveyard—and instantly spotted Zephyr, holding two people in his arms.

When he saw their faces, Kizaru's sunglasses almost fell off his face.

He quickly pushed his shades back up, muttering in disbelief,

"How is that possible? That's...!?"

Whoosh!

Kaito suddenly appeared beside Kizaru in midair. He patted his shoulder gently and shook his head.

"For now," he said, "let's leave this moment to Zephyr-sensei and his family."
