Chapter 322 - Chapter 323: Kisame VS Guy

Itachi had gone off to chase Sasuke, completely forgetting about Kisame, who was still standing guard outside the Konoha gates.

Kisame, the ever-loyal one, had no idea that Itachi had already "defected." He stayed there alone until well into the middle of the night.

He truly couldn't wait any longer—not out of impatience, but out of worry for Itachi's safety.

Muttering to himself, he said,

"Has something happened to Itachi-san? But with his strength, there shouldn't be absolutely no movement at all..."

Just then, two more Konoha Chūnin came out—they were there to change shifts.

The moment they saw their unconscious comrade lying on the ground and Kisame's terrifying shark-like face beside him, they immediately realized this was an attack. They opened their mouths to shout.

But Kisame was faster. With two heavy thuds, the two Konoha shinobi were smashed against the wall and knocked out cold.

Kisame snorted dismissively, swaggering past them and walking straight into Konoha.

However, without Itachi's guidance, he was wandering around aimlessly. It didn't take long before he was discovered—blocked on a side street by a man with a bowl-shaped haircut, training in the middle of the night.

The man with the bowl head greeted him with a series of backflips. Landing firmly, he pointed at Kisame and demanded,

"You're not a shinobi of Konoha! State your purpose here!"

Kisame looked at the man's bizarre haircut and his green skintight suit, raised his brows, and immediately dismissed him as some lunatic—not worth taking seriously.

He pulled Samehada from his back and charged forward, intending to simply knock this obstacle unconscious.

The man's gaze sharpened. He lifted his leg and unleashed a kick.

"Konoha Whirlwind!"

Bang!

Caught off guard, Kisame was kicked flying backward. He drove Samehada into the ground to stop himself from tumbling further.

Slowly lifting his head, the contempt in his eyes was gone. From that brief clash, he realized this man was nothing like the gate guards.

Kisame's expression grew serious as he asked,

"Who are you?"

The bowl-headed man took a stance, flashing a grin that revealed his dazzling white teeth.

"I am the proud Green Beast of Konoha—Might Guy!"

Kisame shook his head and muttered,

"Might Guy? Never heard of you."

"..."

Guy froze for a second, a little embarrassed. Kisame then asked,

"What did you people do to Itachi-san?"

"Itachi-san? Who's that? One of your comrades?"

Kisame narrowed his eyes. Things were looking bad. This "Guy" wasn't someone he could easily deal with. If other Konoha shinobi noticed, he would be trapped.

Guy saw Kisame staying silent and decided to strike first. He kicked off the ground, blasting forward.

"Konoha Strong Whirlwind!"

This time, Kisame didn't dare underestimate him. He raised Samehada to block, barely stopping Guy's spinning kick.

Getting kicked twice in a row, Kisame's temper flared. He quickly formed hand seals and shouted,

"Water Style: Water Shark Bomb Jutsu!"

A puddle suddenly formed beneath him, from which a massive shark made of water burst forth, lunging at Guy with open jaws.

Guy twisted his body to evade, watching the shark smash apart the ground.

"To unleash such a powerful Water Style in a place without water... this opponent isn't simple."

A strong enemy only fueled Guy's fighting spirit. Clenching his fists, a surge of green energy erupted from his body.

"Eight Gates—Sixth Gate, Gate of View... Open!"

With the Gate of View unleashed, Guy's speed skyrocketed. He almost seemed to teleport, appearing right in front of Kisame. Kisame hastily raised Samehada to block, but it was useless—he was sent flying by a single punch.

Kisame, weapon and all, was blasted backward, gouging a deep trench into the ground.

When he struggled back to his feet, the upper half of his clothes was torn apart, his torso riddled with gashes so deep they exposed bone.

Wounds that would have been fatal for any ordinary shinobi—yet Kisame's face showed no trace of panic.

He glanced at his injuries, then flexed his arm. The wrappings around Samehada suddenly shredded apart. The living hilt writhed, snaking into his sleeve and channeling chakra straight into his body.

Under the flow of chakra, Kisame's wounds began healing at a speed visible to the naked eye, leaving Guy wide-eyed in shock.

Once fully healed, Kisame rolled his shoulders. Now, his eyes burned with battle intent.

This was the first time he had encountered such a formidable taijutsu user. His thoughts of retreat vanished—he wanted a real fight.

Leaping into the air, he rapidly formed hand seals, then spewed a torrent of water from his mouth.

"Water Style: Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"

A surging tide erupted, forming a vast half-dome of water that swallowed half of Konoha. Villagers sleeping peacefully were suddenly jolted awake, choking as water filled their throats.

They tried to scream for help, but under the water, no sound came out. If this continued, only shinobi able to hold their breath might last a while—the rest, ordinary people, would drown.

Floating in the water, Guy realized this immediately. He decided he could no longer hold back.

Drawing his arms to his sides, he chanted silently in his mind,

"Seventh Gate, Gate of Shock..."

Before he could finish, Kaito's figure suddenly appeared right in front of him.

Guy was startled, instinctively opening his mouth—only to swallow a mouthful of water, coughing violently, his face turning red.

Hidden nearby, Kisame caught sight of Kaito and gasped,

"That is..."

Kaito said nothing. He simply activated the Rinnegan, lifting his right hand.

At once, the surrounding water rushed toward his palm like rivers flowing into the sea. In the blink of an eye, the massive water dome engulfing half of Konoha was gone.

The villagers, saved from near-drowning, stared blankly upward at Kaito floating in the sky. Someone murmured,

"It's Hokage-sama... he saved us!"

Guy, who hadn't yet opened the Gate of Shock, lacked the ability to hover. With the water gone, he plummeted to the ground, staring up at Kaito in confusion.

"Hokage-sama's eyes just now... what was that? That wasn't the Sharingan!"

Kisame too had landed, looking utterly shaken, as though he had just seen a nightmare.

"No mistake... that was the Rinnegan! The same Rinnegan as the Leader!!!"

At that moment, several crows fluttered down beside Kisame, merging together to form Itachi's figure.

From afar, Itachi had seen the towering water dome and instantly knew things had gone terribly wrong. He had completely forgotten about Kisame, that loyal fool!

Looking at the wrecked houses around him, then up at Kaito in the sky, Itachi felt a sharp headache coming on.
