Chapter 64 - Chapter 64: Obito’s Generosity Knows No Bounds

"Uchiha Forbidden Jutsu: Six Paths Technique?"

Kitagawa Gen stared at the information that had just surfaced in his mind, a little puzzled.

If he remembered correctly, this was one of the last things Uchiha Madara had left behind for Uchiha Obito before pulling out his oxygen tube, wasn't it?

"Am I just ruthlessly milking Obito for everything he's got?"

Gen's expression turned strange. He had to admit one thing: Uchiha Obito really had been… surprisingly generous to him. Not once had he shown any hint of stinginess!

"First it was Yin-Yang Release, then the Uchiha's unique Yin Release, followed by White Zetsu's Yang chakra… and now even the Uchiha's Six Paths Technique shows up?"

Even though Gen believed that Obito would want nothing more than to kill him if they ever met face to face, he still felt he should be grateful—after all, he was a kind person.

"Gotta keep up the good work!"

Activating the Flying Thunder God Technique, Kitagawa Gen vanished in a flash, reappearing back at his home.

The Uchiha Forbidden Jutsu: Six Paths Technique was indeed a fascinating thing. And, it wasn't quite what he had expected.

"I thought it'd be something directly related to the Six Paths, but I overlooked the fact that this is an Uchiha forbidden technique."

Uchiha forbidden techniques—put simply—were things specifically tailored to the Uchiha. And sure enough, this one fit them perfectly!

"Visual jutsu to control tailed beasts, Izanagi… but no Izanami?"

Gen muttered to himself. As far as he remembered, Izanami had been invented by a woman named Uchiha Naori, specifically to counter Izanagi.

At the time, the Uchiha Clan had four Mangekyō users, but three of them ended up fighting each other for various reasons.

By the end, only Uchiha Naka and Uchiha Naori were left standing.

And even Uchiha Naka had been reformed by Izanami in the end.

"Now that I think about it… were they from the Warring States period, or did they appear after Madara left Konohagakure?"

He remembered that they wore Leaf Village forehead protectors—but who knew where the timeline had glitched?

"Still, most of that doesn't help me much—unless I could somehow steal Obito's wall of Sharingan. But the rest…"

Now that got Gen interested—because those techniques didn't rely on the Sharingan at all!

"Uchiha Flame Formation, the summoning seal for tailed beasts, Sealing Technique: Phantom Dragon Nine Consuming Seals, and the Tailed Beast Release Seal."

Each one looked both intriguing and practical.

Take Uchiha Flame Formation, for instance—it was an incredibly powerful barrier technique.

Its durability was so high that even a tailed beast couldn't break through it quickly, and its exterior was wreathed in flames—flames that had even scorched the Eight-Tails!

If he really wanted to capture a jinchūriki and extract chakra, wouldn't this be perfect for trapping them like a dog behind a closed gate?

Then there was the Tailed Beast Summoning Seal—which made sense: carve a summoning mark into a tailed beast and use it to summon them. If he remembered correctly, the Nine-Tails still had a mark on it.

"Even though the Fourth Hokage severed Obito's link to the Nine-Tails, Madara tried to summon it again later… this mark is actually kind of interesting."

As for the Sealing Technique: Phantom Dragon Nine Consuming Seals, it was used to seal tailed beasts into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Even without the Rinnegan, it could still be put into practice.

But what Gen valued the most was the Tailed Beast Release Seal!

"A technique that forcibly ejects a tailed beast from its jinchūriki…"

Of course, Gen wasn't planning on fully extracting any tailed beasts—he didn't have time for that. But pulling out some of their chakra? Now that he'd gladly do.

The benefits of acquiring the Three-Tails were still fresh in his memory, and his bloodline was continuing to evolve without pause.

"As long as I can find someone who's isolated, I can give it a try. And that guy named Sora…"

Kitagawa Gen hadn't forgotten the jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails chakra lurking at the Fire Temple. He just might be worth targeting.

[Creak—]

As he was lost in thought, a sudden sound caught his ear. He looked up and saw that his window had been pushed open.

"What a pain in the ass, that bastard…"

A blond-haired boy stepped in, clearly reluctant, holding a watering can and muttering irritably as he prepared to water the plants.

"Ah, ah, ah—!"

But when he looked up and saw Kitagawa Gen sitting on the floor, staring at him in a daze, he was startled out of his wits. His arms flailed wildly, and he tipped backward in a panic.

[Thud—]

A muffled crash followed as the little blond disappeared from Gen's view, immediately accompanied by a chorus of barking dogs.

"Oww, ow, ow..."

Gen leaned over and looked down, finding Naruto sprawled on the ground. He fell silent for a moment.

This kid… wasn't this the second time already?

"You alright down there?"

"You jerk! Why didn't you say anything before coming back?!"

Still lying on the ground, Naruto couldn't help but shout back, making Gen nod to himself.

This brat really was tough as nails.

It didn't take long before Naruto recovered. He shooed away the barking dogs, then leapt up onto Gen's windowsill in one smooth motion.

"I just got home and wanted to rest a bit. How was I supposed to know you'd show up?"

Gen finally spoke, lazily, then asked curiously: "Wait, why are you here watering my flowers anyway?"

"Because you told me to a while ago! I figured whenever you're out on a mission, I'd stop by and check on them."

Naruto muttered while rubbing his lower back.

Gen was briefly stunned. He hadn't expected Naruto to take such a casual remark so seriously.

And not just that—he came by every time Gen went out on a mission?

"No wonder my flowers have been thriving all this time..."

Looking at the lush, blooming plants, a smile crept onto Gen's face.

Naruto really was the kind of guy worth being friends with—at least, if he wasn't planning on leaving Konohagakure anytime soon.

"Naruto, once I'm back from my mission, dinner's on me tonight at Ichiraku."

Feeling cheerful, Gen offered with a grin.

"Uh..."

Naruto's eyes lit up but then flickered uncertainly. After thinking for a moment, he replied softly: "Well, about that... maybe Ichiraku's not necessary..."

"I'm buying!"

"No, that's not what I meant. I mean… did you get promoted to chūnin?"

"Hm?"

Gen looked at Naruto, confused. What kind of guy could resist the pull of Ichiraku ramen?

As for the chūnin promotion—had he even told Naruto about that?

"How do you know?"

"Shikamaru told me."

Naruto, ever blunt, threw Shikamaru under the bus without hesitation, eyes wide as he looked up at Gen.

"So it's true? You really became a chūnin?"

"Yeah, that's right."

Gen nodded, then couldn't help but chuckle at Naruto.

"What, are you planning to give me a promotion gift or something?"

"I mean, I could..."

Naruto thought it over, then declared: "I just got my stipend, so I'm treating you to Ichiraku tonight! But—there's one thing..."

"What? Just spit it out."

Gen raised an eyebrow, already sensing something fishy.

"So, um..."

Naruto widened his eyes and asked cautiously: "You're not really gonna be my examiner during the next exams, are you?"

"..."

Gen nearly burst out laughing in disbelief. Was that what all this was about?

After a brief pause, he shook his head and replied: "No, no way. Don't worry—I'm not that bored."

"Phew, thank goodness!"

The little blond finally relaxed, bursting out in a carefree laugh.

"Alright then, Ichiraku it is tonight—my treat! Consider it a celebration for your promotion. My stipend just came in!"

"That so? Well, thanks, Naruto. It's already noon—how about we grab something now?"

Seeing how happy the kid looked, Gen smiled and nodded without giving anything away.

But deep down, aside from plotting how to eat Naruto into tears, he was also hatching another plan.

'When the chūnin exams come around, I'm sitting right next to you. If you so much as hesitate to write anything, I'll lean over and ask if you've got a problem with me. I dare you to keep smiling then.'

As Gen was thinking about how to "deepen their bond" in the future, elsewhere—within the Land of Rain—Uchiha Obito and his companions reappeared.

As Obito looked up at the rain falling from the sky, he gave his head a little shake and spoke.

"Just take that guy to see Pain. I won't be going. As for the payment I promised, you'll get every single coin—I won't short you a cent."

"Good. And next time, make sure to gather proper intel on that brat."

Hearing that there was such a thing as a Gold Release: Ultra Wealthy Technique, Kakuzu no longer minded doing business with Obito.

After all, to him, loyalty belonged to the highest bidder. Money was his only creed—everything else was meaningless!

Still, he wasn't about to forget what happened with Kitagawa Gen. He had lost three hearts—three—because of that kid!

"Yeah, yeah. Got it."

Uchiha Obito replied offhandedly, watching as Kakuzu led Hidan away. He waited until their figures had completely disappeared before murmuring: "A greedy lunatic and a psycho… What a pain."

"Hehe."

No sooner had he spoken than a Venus flytrap emerged from underground—White Zetsu's upper half poking out, chuckling as he spoke.

"But hey, didn't they agree in the end? They're just trying to earn their own money now. It's not that big a deal."

"Hmph."

Obito let out a cold snort. After hesitating a moment, he finally said: "Go gather intel. Look for someone valuable—I'm ready to make a move."

"Okay."

White Zetsu nodded, but then tilted his head in confusion.

"Why not just find someone rich and rob them blind?"

"..."

Obito froze for a moment.

That… actually made a lot of sense.

Then his expression darkened.

You've got to be kidding me—am I really dumber than this idiot?

"Fine. We'll do it your way."

Though annoyed, he nodded decisively. Then he turned his attention to Black Zetsu.

"You were watching the fight earlier, weren't you? What's the deal with that kid?"

"That kid..."

Black Zetsu paused for a second before speaking, clearly a bit hesitant.

"He's not ordinary. You need to be extremely careful—his power… has grown stronger than before."

"Tch. Yeah, I figured."

Obito clicked his tongue in irritation. Something about Black Zetsu seemed off today.

Still, he didn't bother pressing. He was already annoyed enough by Kakashi's Mangekyō Sharingan.

That brat Kitagawa Gen had already uncovered part of his secret, and now Kakashi had a Sharingan just like his own. This was far from good.

What frustrated him even more was the fact that he still hadn't figured out what his other eye's ability actually was!

"This is getting troublesome. I need to find someone to test it on."

Obito frowned as he made a mental note. But he didn't notice that, beside him, Black Zetsu was glancing up at the sky—subtle and unreadable.

"No way…"
