Chapter 144 - Competitive Quidditch

Christian finished reading the book and exhaled. "It's good I can continue with the soul shaping training.' Since he can use Occlumency, he will not have to stop his soul-shaping training. He proceeded with his meditation before heading to his secret bathroom for a shower. Christian found himself unable to wash his hair like he previously did, since he couldn't use magic on his locs.

After taking care of his hygiene, he visited Harry. Ron and Hermione were already there, so Christian sat next to them. "How is he doing?" Instead of receiving an answer, Ron snorted coldly at him.

"What's wrong with him?"

"I don't know," Hermione replied.

"What's wrong with you?" Christian asked.

"I'm not talking to you."

"How childish," Christian rolled his eyes.

"Childish? You were not there when we needed your help, and after almost dying, you showed up for less than five minutes before going to bed."

"Ron," Hermione said.

"Don't make excuses for him."

Christian rubbed his face with both hands while groaning softly. "Mate, I understand how you feel, but I had my own problem to deal with. I just needed some rest."

"What kind of problems?"

"Things you wouldn't understand," Christian replied.

"Always with the secrets," Ron sneered before quieting down. He refused to engage further.

"Are you alright?" Hermione asked. She could tell something had happened to him.

"I'm fine," Christian nodded. Hermione noticed he did not want to talk about it, so she did not insist. The three stayed with Harry for more than an hour until Madam Pomfrey chased them away with the excuse that Harry needed time to rest.

Everybody returned to Gryffindor's common room, but separated as Ron rushed somewhere else. Christian and Hermione find a table to sit together and talk. However, their butts hadn't even warmed the seat when Oliver, the Gryffindor's Captain, approached them.

"Do you need something?" Christian asked.

"Just out of curiosity, do you know when Harry will wake up?" Oliver asked. Christian's lips twitched as he thought of something.

"We don't know," Hermione responded. "Madam Pomfrey said it could take as long as a week."

"Damn it," Oliver cursed.

"What's the matter?" Hermione asked. "Why do you need Harry?"

"Our final match is this afternoon, and I was hoping he could play."

Christian shook his head while Hermione stared. She then immediately snapped at him. "Harry's life is at stake, and all you care about is your stupid game?"

"It's not stupid."

"You!"

"Alright, I apologize. Anyway, even if he was not in a coma, I doubt Madam Pomfrey would clear him for the game," Oliver sighed. Christian had to calm down Hermione as she was about to attack Olivier. However, the latter did not take the hint. On the contrary, his eyes lit up with excitement.

"Hey, Christian, you're a decent flyer, right?" Oliver asked.

"No."

"But I haven't even asked yet?"

"I've never played Quidditch or trained for it, so no, I won't replace Harry," Christian answered. He was currently unable to cast magic, so why would he play such a dangerous sport? And even if he could, as he said, he had only played once or twice with his mother, but those were not official matches.

"Aren't you good at everything?" Oliver asked, making Christian speechless. "I know you can do it."

"My answer will not change."

"Come on."

Christian shook his head. "I never understood why you guys love a sport with such flawed rules."

"There is nothing wrong with the rules," Olivier immediately argued.

"Really? Think about it for a second: wouldn't it be better to have a time limit? Maybe an hour or two. With a simple change, matches will no longer be too short or too long."

"What will happen with Seekers if there are time limits?"

"They can continue releasing Golden Snitch for the duration of the match," Christian replied.

"Are you saying the Seekers would have to catch the snitch multiple times in one game?"

"That's right. Such a simple change would intensify the Seeker's position, as they can have multiple opportunities to defeat each other. This will also change the fact that a Seeker can instantly change the tide of a game, increasing the values of other positions."

"Knowing that there is a time limit to ensure success would indeed increase the game's intensity," Olivier muttered. "The Seeker Position will also be more physical since they may have to catch the snitch more than once."

"Now you're getting it," Christian said.

"What other ideas do you have?"

"Huh, well, I've always felt the Seeker's position was too important. A golden snitch should not be worth 150 points. If the game had a time limit, the snitch should only be worth 50 points, which is enough to give the team an advantage, but not enough to turn the tide instantly."

"The Seeker has always been the star, so I doubt that will ever change," Oliver said.

"True," Christian nodded. Wizards were not fans of changes.

"Anything else?" Oliver asked, intrigued by this topic.

"Hmm, I do find it pointless that you only play four games a year. If the existence of Quidditch in school is to prepare for a future career as a professional, the program should be more intense and competitive than this."

"I've had the same idea," Oliver said excitedly. "I once asked Professor McGonagall if we could play two games against each house, but she refused me."

"You can think wider," Christian added. "Muggle Teen Sports are highly developed, with each country having its own leagues. Wizards could learn from them and design a system in which you play four games to decide a team to represent Hogwarts before competing with the other 11 main magical schools for a world trophy or something.

"Better yet, you could elect two teams from each school for a tournament with 22 teams. No, maybe select two teams from smaller magical schools for an even 24 teams. Divide the tournament into six groups of 4, with two teams from each group moving on to the next round.

"Wouldn't that mean the semi-finals would only have three teams qualified?" Hermione asked.

"Yes, and there can be a system to choose the fourth team based on either the number of points scored by the three teams that lost in the quarter-finals."

"That makes sense," she nodded.

"School World Champion," Oliver muttered with excitement. "I've got to tell Professor McGonagall about this idea." He rushed away, ignoring Christian, who was trying to stop him.

"Do you think the professor will listen to him?" Hermione asked.

"The chances are slim," Christian shook his head. "Let's not talk about him. Do you have any plans for the summer?"

"No, I'm just going to stay home and read a few books. You?"

"I was supposed to be training and learning tribal magic. But now, I don't know," Christian replied truthfully.

'Training? Isn't it forbidden to use magic because of the Trace?"

"My mother definitely has a way to deal with it," Christian replied.

Hermione thought briefly. "Can I train with you?"

"Hmm, I don't know, but I can ask my mother," Christian said as he removed the mirror from the pocket of his school robe. Tiara did not take much time to answer, and Christian explained the situation.

She thought about it briefly. Since she was already going to train with Christian, it wouldn't hurt to add another individual. "I have no issue, but only after speaking to your parents and explaining the possible dangers involved. If they agree, then I will gladly tutor you."

"They should have no problem," Hermione said.

"Good. Give me your address, and I'll give them a visit."
