Chapter 23 - Defeating the Sub-Boss

The golden spear-wielding golem had now lost its comrade. It had no emotions, but its system could detect threats. And now, Ruminas was its most dangerous enemy.

Its red eyes flashed once more, and then immediately, it charged forward with incredible speed.

Ruminas jumped back, her eyes following the golem's every move. It was faster than the previous one, perhaps because its armor was lighter, or because it specialized in ranged attacks instead of melee.

But it doesn't matter.

She knew how to take it down.

"Armor Break – Core Attack – Finish. First Step: Armor Break"

"But how should I do it…?" Ruminas pondered.

This one's armor was still intact, but after witnessing its laser attack earlier, Ruminas had another idea, she didn't need to wait for it to break its own armor, but could force it to do so.

She squinted, focusing on the armor's weakest point: the joints.

Especially the part between the arm and shoulder, where it connects to the spear.

She rushed forward.

The Golem immediately swung its spear up, the tip of the spear began to glow—it was preparing to fire!

But Ruminas did not wait.

She leaned to the side, using maximum speed to dodge the spear blade that had just swept across. At the same time, she tightened her grip on the axe handle, delivering a powerful slash to the shoulder joint.

CLANG!

A loud bang rang out, sparks flying from the point of impact.

Ruminas immediately backed away.

Though its armor wasn't destroyed immediately, she noticed a small crack—enough to create an opening.

She gave a smirk.

"So it's not completely invincible, huh?"

The Golem retreated, but immediately after, it swung its spear again. This time, its attack was much faster—not a simple horizontal sweep, but a series of consecutive stabs, each one able to pierce through rock.

Ruminas turned around, narrowly dodging each attack.

The wind whistled in her ears as the spear passed by.

"We need to go faster!"

"Have to take advantage of the times when it is attacking"

She jumped up, kicking the spear as it came, gaining momentum and flying straight up onto the golem's shoulder!

The golem did not have time to react.

Ruminas spun in mid-air, swinging her axe and slashing hard at the shoulder she had just caused the crack.

This time—

CRACK!

A clear cracking sound rang out.

The golem's spear-wielding arm was severely damaged, its joint partially broken, slowing its movements considerably.

"Alright"

She somersaulted in the air, landed safely, and immediately retreated to avoid a counterattack.

The golem staggered a bit.

The armor's self-repair mechanism began to work—she could see the metal slowly closing the crack.

"It can't be allowed to recover!"

Ruminas charged again, this time she aimed not at the shoulder but at the chest armor.

She knew clearly that beneath that armor was the golem's central core.

Using all her strength, she spun the axe in her hand to gain momentum, then delivered a powerful slash at its chest.

BOOM!

A small explosion rang out as the axe blade collided with the armor.

Even though she couldn't break it right away, she had created a deeper crack.

The Golem backed away, showing "hesitation" for the first time due to being severely damaged.

"There is no way back"

Ruminas smiled confidently.

"There's still one more time for the axe's special attack, right…" Ruminas clenched her axe and slashed, summoning the illusion of a blue snake, which immediately charged towards the golem and restrained the spear-wielding arm that was about to attack.

Ruminas took that opportunity to jump up, she aimed accurately at the damaged area causing the crack to deepen a bit.

The golem immediately used its left hand to wave away Ruminas, but she skillfully dodged and continued to swing her axe at that spot, aiming to prevent it from recovering.

Finally, after dozens of consecutive axe swings, Ruminas successfully broke through its armor, she swung it once more and—

Boom!

Its entire right arm from the elbow down was severed and fell to the ground, no blood flowing out but instead scattered pieces of rock.

"Very good!"

The golem saw that the situation was unfavorable and immediately started attacking crazily without thinking.

"This is exactly what I want!"

After fighting for a while, Ruminas had gotten used to the golem's pace and attack style. Plus, it was out of control, so she easily dodged the storm-like attacks and returned many wounds to it.

"Still very hard…"

Ruminas felt like her entire arms were completely numb after hundreds of axe swings since the beginning of the battle, but she couldn't bear to give up now.

Her hands holding the axe also began to tremble.

"Come on, arm…" Ruminas encouraged herself, then she took out another mouthful of black blood and drank it to gain strength.

Done, she continued to charge forward, she only focused on attacking the damaged areas on the armor.

Suddenly, the golem raised its hand and a source of power gathered from its palm.

"Using magic…?"

Ruminas didn't know what it was going to do but she quickly backed away.

A few seconds after gathering its power, the golem suddenly slammed into the ground, causing the floor to shake violently. Then, cracks began to appear and spread further.

"Does this kid want to play dead together?"

Not stopping there, the golem's body suddenly glowed.

She frowned.

What?!

A strong shockwave shook the room.

"Is there still some magic left?"

Ruminas didn't know exactly, but she felt that the pressure this time was several times greater than before. She saw a golden light covering the golem's entire body, and magic lines appearing on its armor.

"What does it want to do anyway?"

At this moment, the little spirit flew over and pulled Ruminas's shirt and pointed it outside, wanting her to quickly leave.

"Do you know what it is planning to do?" Ruminas asked.

The little spirit didn't reply and only used actions to express himself, but Ruminas could vaguely guess a few things.

"Is it trying to self-destruct?" she asked.

The little spirit nodded immediately.

"Damn!"

"If it explodes, this entire room could be destroyed too!"

"Damn it, don't joke!"

She had no other choice.

But instead of leaving, Ruminas decided to destroy its core immediately!

She took a deep breath and picked up the axe again. The little elf was startled and wanted to advise her to leave, but her eyes showed an unyielding determination.

"Baby, you go wait outside first," Ruminas said.

The little spirit knew that he couldn't persuade Ruminas, so he cast a spell to create a shield around her, along with a temporary power boost.

Ruminas immediately felt his power increase even more.

"Thanks," she smiled and focused again.

Ruminas used all her strength, swinging her axe at maximum speed.

This time, she didn't slash horizontally or vertically.

But it was a straight stab!

The axe blade penetrated the crack in the breastplate, digging deep inside.

The light in the golem's eyes dimmed.

Already-

A BIG BOOM!

A shockwave spread throughout the room, sending Ruminas flying backwards. The entire room shook violently, huge boulders and pillars began to collapse everywhere, the previous splendor quickly being buried under dust.

Ruminas flipped a few times in the air before landing on the ground, his feet planted firmly to keep his balance.

Dust covered the whole room.

Ruminas coughed softly, waving his hand to clear away the dust.

Then she looked up.

—Nothing more.

The entire golem was completely destroyed.

Only scattered debris remained on the ground.

Ruminas saw that and immediately fell to the ground, her whole body was in indescribable pain, now just a slight movement was enough to make her whole body hurt.

[Received: 1000 EXP, 2 golden cores]

[Enough EXP to level up]

[Level Up Reward: 5 Optional Stat Points]

"A whopping 1000? Looks like these two golems are some kind of sub-boss or something, that's why there are so many of them. They leveled up not long ago, and now they're leveling up again."

"Add it all to the agility stat, it's pretty important right now."

"At first I thought falling down here would be dangerous, but it was dangerous and there was a lot of luck too. Find new armor, level up constantly."

The little spirit flew to her side and chanted a spell to help Ruminas' body relax a bit. She also lay still and enjoyed this feeling.

After a while, Ruminas was able to sit up, but walking was still not very good, she would need to rest for at least a few days to fully recover.

"It's okay, there's no need to rush."

Ruminas cleared the surrounding dirt and rocks a bit to create a resting place for herself, she took out sticks and a lighter to create a campfire then brought out food and drinks to start her relaxing moments.

"There are two sub-bosses guarding here, so there's a high chance that the main boss of the dungeon is behind that door. But will I be able to defeat it..? It's already difficult enough to defeat two sub-bosses."

The little spirit quickly flew in front of Ruminas and shook its head repeatedly.

"So that thing over there is really the main boss? There's a chance that the demon heart is also there…" Ruminas started thinking.

"I'm still a bit weak right now, maybe I can find more monsters around this area to practice my fighting skills and level up. I should have done that before rushing straight into the boss room like that…"

Ruminas sighed.

So she decided to take a break from fighting the main boss to gain more experience from other monsters.

"But first, let's get some sleep…" Ruminas took the blanket off and lay back down on the spot.

"Baby, good night" she said and quickly closed her eyes and fell asleep.
