Chapter 55 - Starting the Mission

Through the map provided by the system, Ruminas saw three specially marked places, which were most likely the locations of the remaining two components and the subway they would use to escape from here.

"No, it seems like there's still one more place…"

Ruminas noticed that besides the three very clear blue dots, there was also a slightly smaller yellow dot, and it was extremely far away from the other three blue dots.

"If the three green dots are the location of the components and the subway, then what is that yellow dot…?"

Ruminas tried to recall the layout of this place once more and began to analyze everything, and it wasn't too difficult for her to deduce that the yellow dot was the main control room of this station.

"To make the subway run, in addition to filling in the missing components, we also have to go to the control room to start the track system and open the way for the subway to run…"

Ruminas laughed.

"Isn't this situation difficult enough that you're still playing like this…"

"According to the terrain distribution, the green dot right at this corner will be the subway. There is another green dot nearby, so when going to the subway, it is convenient to stop by to get components, but the other green dot is in the opposite direction, so it is a bit troublesome…"

"What to do? What to do? How are we supposed to complete the mission with just four people…!" Aoi shouted like a qild.

"Be quiet, we still have 24 hours left so think of a way" Renji said. "As for planning, you, young people do it, this old man will follow it, I'm not very good at this kind of thing"

"Me too!" Aoi said, pointing to herself.

"You are still young!"

"You are not that old"

"Alright, if you're not going to do it, then stand aside!" Renji picked Aoi up and threw her aside, then he looked back at Ruminas and Achlys.

"What do you two think?"

Ruminas spoke her speculations and followed up with a few plans she had in mind.

"If we go together, we won't be able to make it in time. It's best to split up into a 1-2-1 formation. One person runs back to the control room and clears the way. The other three go together and then split off with one more person to get the furthest component. The remaining two will get the nearest components and run back to fill them into the subway."

"Sounds reasonable," Renji said. "Any ideas?" he asked Achlys.

Achlys shrugged, not objecting.

"So how do we split it now…?" Renji asked.

The most important part!

Who would want to go to the control room, the most remote and dangerous place… That's also the person most likely to get trapped.

"Before that, have any of you reached two-star rank?" Ruminas asked.

The room was silent.

"Did you get it?" Aoi looked at Ruminas with surprise.

She just nodded slightly.

"That's good! I'm still a little short, and this old man just got it about a month ago," Aoi said, pointing at Renji.

Ruminas said nothing and just turned to look at Achlys.

"Two months ago," he replied.

"It's been a while!" Aoi exclaimed.

"Two months…" Ruminas calculated that this person had about the same amount of time as her, so his strength definitely wouldn't be weak.

After a moment of silence, Ruminas said, "I'm going to the control room."

"Are you sure?" Renji asked again.

Ruminas nodded.

"There is another, shorter path from the control room back to the ship, as long as you guys are fast enough I will make it in time."

Renji nodded.

"Ruminas, are you sure???" Aoi ran over and grabbed her hand, her eyes filled with tears.

Ruminas was a little surprised to see her so worried.

She just nodded slightly.

Aoi suddenly burst into tears and hugged her.

"From now on, you are my most precious little sister, try to survive."

"Sorry for making a young person like you do something difficult," Renji said in a self-reproachful tone.

Aoi hugged her so tightly that Ruminas had trouble breathing. She realized that this concern wasn't fake, which made her feel a little happy.

Ruminas gently patted Aoi's back to comfort her.

"Then I'll go get the component that's in the opposite direction?" Achlys suddenly spoke up.

No one objected.

Ruminas took out the gear she had received earlier from her inventory and handed it back to Aoi.

"I will definitely complete the mission!" Aoi gripped the gear tightly with both hands, her face still streaked with tears.

Everyone had nothing more to discuss so each person just relaxed on the spot, ready for tomorrow's battle but only Aoi kept clinging to Ruminas and wouldn't let go.

She talked about everything under the sun as if Ruminas was about to die, but Ruminas didn't feel bothered by it. She wasn't the anti-social type or too distant from others, so communication was normal, but Aoi was still the one who did most of the talking.

"Rumi-chan, can I call you that?"

"No problem," Ruminas replied.

"So do you have any wishes?" Aoi asked.

Ruminas was silent, she thought seriously for a moment then said: "Survive"

Aoi frowned.

"Not this, I mean after surviving, what do you want to do next?"

"After surviving?" Ruminas muttered.

In fact, from the beginning until now, she has always set her immediate goal as "survival", but has never asked herself "what is the purpose of survival".

She had no family to return to. No one waiting for her. No big dreams to pursue.

Then...

What do you really want to do?

Ruminas looked down at his hands, suddenly realizing he had no answer.

"Not yet," she replied briefly.

Aoi puffed her cheeks, looking displeased.

"Then think about it! Wouldn't it be a shame if you didn't have any goals after surviving?"

Ruminas chuckled. "There's no need to have a grand goal to continue living."

"No, I won't accept that answer! From now until the mission ends, you have to think of a wish! Something that you really want to do!"

Aoi is a bit impulsive but seems to be really serious about this.

Ruminas sighed softly but did not object.

"Okay, let's do it after the mission is completed."

"Remember that!" Aoi said firmly.

When night fell, there were only about eight hours left, so everyone took the opportunity to rest. Ruminas only had her eyes half closed, not in a deep sleep, and she sensed that the others were the same, except for… Aoi.

Ruminas looked down at the girl lying on his lap and sleeping soundly, feeling a sense of peace in his heart.

"Maybe I should think seriously about this…"

When the countdown reached 30 minutes, everyone was awake, ready, and their faces were serious, even Aoi couldn't joke around anymore.

Renji held his shining greatsword in his hand while Aoi held her staff tightly in her hand, Achlys had no weapon at all. Likewise, Ruminas did not take out her weapon either. Beru wrapped around Ruminas, its head swaying back and forth in a very comfortable manner.

"Don't show yourself for a while, there's a chance that monsters will appear from the entrance. I'll try to lure as many as I can but there might be monsters in other places too" Ruminas said.

Everyone nodded.

"Will you really be okay…?" Aoi asked.

Ruminas shook his head.

"Nothing is certain but I want to survive so I will do anything" Her voice was filled with determination.

Everyone was silent.

These last moments were spent in silence, keeping themselves as alert as possible. And when the countdown reached zero, the barrier disappeared, and they could now go outside, but no one moved. Ruminas closed her eyes, sensing everything around her, and before long, she heard a noise.

"Here it is!"

From the original staircase, a swarm of monsters with countless numbers and species began to rush down. They brought their bloodlust here and would devour all living things within their range.

Ruminas calmly stepped out, the others had already taken cover to the side and she was now the only target in the monsters' eyes. When they saw their prey, they charged even faster.

Ruminas took out her axe, she took a stance so that the axe was horizontal, invisible white aura began to gather into this weapon.

"Let's make a splash!"

Ruminas took a deep breath and slashed horizontally.

"Slash!"

The attack carried the effect of a slash along with the enhancement of 'qi' and the illusion of a snake from the special ability swept over, creating a huge explosion. Dozens of monsters instantly died and Ruminas took the opportunity to charge forward.

In her hand was a spear with a slowing effect and she slashed all the monsters within her attack range and ran towards the control room, most of the monsters after reshaping chased after her.

Ruminas turned back, her mouth forming three words: "Survive!" to the people behind her who were leaving in another direction.
