Chapter 62 - Critical

Renji and Aoi stood still for a long time, neither daring to move until they confirmed that the woman was no longer there.

"What chicken! Who do you call chicken!?" Aoi muttered, her face filled with anger.

Renji turned to look at Aoi.

"How… do you know that?"

Aoi took a few breaths and replied, "She seems to be a character in a fairly famous ghost story in Japan, don't you know at all?" She asked again.

Renji was silent for a moment, then sighed. "My previous life was so busy that I didn't know about these things. This time, I can consider it lucky."

Aoi nodded in agreement. But deep down, she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling in her heart.

"Do you think Ruminas has encountered her too?" Aoi suddenly asked.

"If she's just wandering around the area then the chances are high but I believe she'll be fine, she looks very smart and agile"

"I hope so…" Aoi sighed.

The two of them settled down and continued to hide, before Ruminas and Achlys returned they didn't want to draw the monsters to the train but the monster growls suddenly got closer and more numerous.

"How did they find out…!?" Aoi immediately returned to her panicked state.

"There was the sound of running…" Renji judged.

"Are there any other strange creatures here?"

"Take a look," Renji replied.

So the two of them poked their heads out to look towards the other corridor, only to see a large group of monsters charging towards them like hungry tigers. Both Aoi and Renji were scared pale, but then they noticed the person running in front of the monsters.

"It's him, alive," said Renji.

"But why did all these monsters suddenly come!!" Aoi shouted.

"So what now?" Renji asked.

"Run, how can you fight back!" Aoi said.

The two quickly turned around and ran away, Achlys following behind caught up.

"What are you doing bringing that bunch here?!" Aoi shouted.

"Let's give you two some exercise, hiding all the time is boring." Achlys shrugged casually.

"Who said we were hiding? This is called hiding and waiting for the right moment!"

"Did you get the parts yet?" Renji asked.

Achlys nodded.

"That's better, let's run back to the train."

The three of them accelerated as fast as they could, and on the way they started to encounter monsters that suddenly rushed out from both sides, but every time Achlys was faster, killing them one step ahead.

Aoi could only dodge with all her might because her strength relied mainly on magic, and using magic required time to chant, but in this situation, she couldn't fully concentrate on chanting.

"Hey, try to cast a spell to temporarily hold them off, at this rate they'll follow the entire train and that'll be troublesome!" Renji said.

Aoi thought it was reasonable so she started running while chanting magic. While chanting magic, she couldn't observe the outside world, but in return, there were still two people around to protect her.

The three of them crossed the corridor and reached the area where the subway trains stopped to pick up passengers. At this time, Aoi had also finished chanting her spell.

She turned towards the monsters, quickly gathering a medium sized fireball in her palm and threw it straight away, creating an explosion. At the same time, Achlys's sword also caught fire and he slashed straight towards the monsters. Renji stomped his greatsword hard on the ground, destroying the path and walls on both sides.

There was an explosion but the rubble covered everything so they didn't know what the outcome was but they had stopped the monsters so they quickly headed towards the other train.

Inside, unlike the ruined ships around, this ship was still intact, everything was almost perfectly maintained. The three people quickly split up to find the damaged area.

Very quickly, Achlys found the first place, coincidentally it was exactly the same as the part he was holding so that place was quickly repaired.

Meanwhile, Aoi and Renji went down to the back of the ship, they opened the ship's maqinery system, a bunch of troublesome components appeared, making the two of them momentarily not know what to do.

"I thought it was simple, now I know where to install this part!?" Aoi shouted.

"Calm down!" Renji said and continued to observe. Although he was just a worker before, he had touched maqines a few times so now he could see some clues.

"Here, put the gear in here," Renji said.

Aoi quickly did as she was told, and it worked. The gears fit perfectly.

"There is one more!"

After observing for a while, Renji shook his head and said: "Not this place, let's go look somewhere else."

The two closed the lid and started searqing around for other places, but there was no place that seemed to be able to cover the lever in Aoi's hand.

"Wait, if it's a lever, it's probably in the driver's compartment. Why didn't I think of it sooner?" Renji slapped his forehead.

"Then let's go"

The two ran back up, and then they met Achlys in the ship's control room. Achlys didn't say anything, but just pointed to the location where the lever needed to be inserted.

"Done, now just wait for Rumi-chan!"

"The tracks are open, we can leave anytime," Achlys said, his attitude somewhat indifferent.

"What?! Are you planning to leave her behind? I won't allow it!" Aoi's voice immediately became harsh, she grabbed Achlys by the collar.

"I'm just saying, you're overthinking things," Achlys said calmly.

"You!"

"Alright, stop arguing. Now let's just defend here and wait for that brat to come back." Realizing that the situation was not good, Renji immediately stood up to stop the two.

"Tsk" Aoi let go of her hand and turned to go out.

"Don't mind her, she's just too nervous." Renji forced a smile and followed her out. Outside, Renji saw Aoi sitting on a chair, her face still filled with anger.

"Don't be so grumpy, I don't think he meant it," Renji said, sitting down a chair away, closing his eyes to rest.

"Even so, his attitude is still hateful, Rumi-chan took such a risk and he still doesn't feel worried at all." Aoi is still like a child trying to protect her things.

"Well, he's not a bad person, maybe it's just his natural personality. Everyone has their moments of carelessness," Renji said.

Aoi didn't reply anymore, the two of them sat down on their seats and rested, but not even five minutes later, trouble came to them again. A loud noise woke them both up.

"The monsters are coming!" Aoi shouted.

Achlys stepped out of the control room, sword in hand already burning, ready for the next battle.

The monsters, after destroying the ruins, rushed forward like wild beasts, their numbers were countless.

"We have to hold tight, if they destroy this ship we're done for," said Renji.

The other two said nothing but their weapons were also ready. Achlys rushed forward with a horizontal swing of his sword accompanied by flames, thanks to the flames, the monsters were momentarily stopped.

Renji with his huge sword also blocked many monsters, behind him was always Aoi's support. In addition to using fire magic, she can also use magic to control some surrounding objects.

With that ability, Aoi continuously moves rocks to block the path or hinder the monsters. When she has free time, she takes the opportunity to cast a spell and shoot a fireball that causes a group of monsters to explode.

"Just keep going like that!" Renji shouted.

"Great earthquake!" He shouted and stabbed his greatsword into the ground.

Immediately, the ground in front of them shook and began to crack, causing the monsters to fall down below, some of them tried to climb up but were trampled down by Renji. The situation was favorable to the other three, they were still preventing the monsters from rushing forward too quickly and avoiding causing damage to the train.

But with such a large number of monsters, they still charged forward without caring about anything, and the situation gradually reversed. Even with Achlys's clones, he still couldn't handle all of them alone.

On the other side, Renji and Aoi encountered a huge monster with terrible physical strength. Even Renji couldn't block its attacks and had to slowly retreat. Aoi's magic attacks weren't strong enough to cause any major injuries.

"What to do… I can't hold on like this!" Aoi said.

"Get back on board and start," said Achlys.

"What?! No, we can't leave Rumi-chan behind!" Aoi immediately retorted.

"It will take a little while for the train to start and get fully underway, in the meantime I will go find her."

"But-"

"Alright, don't hesitate anymore, this is the only way," Renji advised.

In the end, Aoi had to grit her teeth and follow. The two stopped fighting and immediately turned around and ran away, leaving behind the monsters that began to rush towards them.
