"Modern technology is magic to the ancients. In today's society, everyone can have superpowers. See that defibrillator next to you? Shock him!"
"Uh... isn't there a more... elegant way?" Christine asked, not giving up. She knew Stephen Strange would never teach her magic. He would mock her, saying she had no talent.
"Come on, defibrillators are super cool! In the past, that was the equivalent of lightning magic that took decades of training. Now, you just have to use it. That's the power of technology!"
Kurohane looked at Christine with a serious expression. He genuinely wanted to see the iconic scene from the movie, where a female doctor defeats a demon in the astral plane with a defibrillator.
A frustrated Christine finally picked up the defibrillator. Since she now believed Kurohane wouldn't trick her, she relaxed. She wouldn't let Strange get killed. She moved the surgical equipment, placed the two defibrillator pads on Strange's chest, then when she saw Strange's electrocardiogram turn into a straight line, her eyes widened and she pressed the button hard!
"Zzzz—Bzzzt!"
Two strong currents of electricity flowed, causing Strange's body to jolt. The electrocardiogram, which had been flat, once again showed fluctuations. Strange looked fine.
From Kurohane's point of view, the two ghosts were fighting around the room, occasionally phasing through walls. When Kurohane appeared, they were both surprised. Strange tried to ask for help, but the follower of Dormammu kept pulling him away. Kurohane just smiled and pretended not to see.
He did see a white flash appear in Strange's body when the electricity flowed, throwing the follower of Dormammu through the wall. It wasn't the electricity that had an effect, but the momentary increase in mental power generated in Strange's brain from the shock. That mental power was what affected his soul.
Strange, who finally got a moment to breathe, made his soul appear in front of Christine. "Christine, increase the current, do it again!" Then he turned to Kurohane. "Don't do anything stupid. I'm watching you!"
Kurohane shrugged. He was harmless. Strange returned to the astral plane to find the Dormammu follower.
Christine, like a dog waiting for a frisbee, stared at Kurohane. When the two ghosts returned to fighting, Kurohane signaled Christine to act. A strong current flowed again, and the smell of burnt flesh filled the operating room. Too much current had built up. Strange's chest was now scorched.
The sacrifice, however, was effective. The wave of mental power from Strange successfully tore his opponent to shreds. Strange returned to his body, feeling refreshed, as if he had just chugged a dozen energy drinks. He felt the stab wound and burns on his body, and almost passed out again. If Christine hadn't given him a painkiller shot, he might not have had the strength to sit up.
Kurohane held back a laugh when he saw Strange. He made a hand gesture, summoning a gentle breeze that shone white. The wind flowed towards them, taking away all their pain. Strange's wounds, Christine's muscle aches from the tension, even the dark circles under their eyes, all disappeared.
"Oshtur's Wind of Resurrection? Who are you, really?" Strange asked, astonished.
Kurohane's gesture seemed ordinary, but Strange knew it was a spell from the Book of Vishanti, an incredibly difficult one. The spell could even resurrect the dead. In all of Kamar-Taj, no one could do this, not even The Ancient One.
"Are you two serious?" Kurohane asked. "You don't even recognize me?"
"Who are you?!"
Kurohane was stunned. He genuinely didn't expect these two people not to recognize him. He considered the possibility that the camera resolution when he was active in New York City wasn't high enough, and his handsome face wasn't captured clearly. Kurohane conjured twelve shimmering light wings on his back, illuminating the operating room like daylight.
"Recognize me now?"
"Ah—!!! You're that person!!!" Christine covered her eyes, whispering to Strange. She didn't know anything about this. She didn't like superheroes like Iron Man.
Strange only knew Iron Man. He had once refused Tony Stark's offer to remove shrapnel from his chest.
"The Ancient One," Strange said softly. "She often mentioned your name. Kurohane, the sorcerer."
