Hazel Morgan lay in bed, her fingers cold, yet she couldn't help but worry about the baby inside her—not out of maternal love, but because of Ronan Lee.
"What happened? Why did you suddenly end up in the hospital? Did someone upset you? Was it the people at home?" Ronan bombarded her with questions, making Hazel feel guilty. She instinctively avoided his gaze.
"No one upset me, don't blame them. It's just my health acting up," Hazel said, gently touching her belly, her smile a bit forced.
"I'm a bit tired and want to rest. You should go back to work. Don't worry about me; I'll take care of myself."
"How can I focus on work when you're like this? I'll stay here with you today. You just need to rest and not worry about anything else. With me here, you'll be fine," Ronan said, looking at Hazel with what he thought was deep affection.
But that wasn't what Hazel wanted, especially after her conversation with Martin Riley earlier. Seeing Ronan again filled her with resentment.
