Hazel Morgan had been in the hospital for several days when Jasmine Lee came to visit her, looking radiant and smug.
"Hazel, look at you now," Jasmine said with a smirk.
Hazel kept her smile steady, not bothering to look at Jasmine. Her gaze remained fixed on the window, where two butterflies danced gracefully in the flowerbed outside.
How free they were.
Hazel longed for that kind of freedom—unrestrained, without owing anyone anything, without having to do things against her will.
But for her, freedom was a luxury she couldn't afford. She was trapped in this small hospital room, unable to leave.
"Hazel, I'm talking to you," Jasmine snapped, glaring at her. "Let me tell you, you'll never set foot in the Lee family home again!"
Hazel remained silent, quietly sitting by the window, watching the world outside. Her heart felt empty, as if something was missing.
Seeing that Hazel wasn't responding, Jasmine was about to leave when the quiet woman finally spoke.
