Chapter 9: Camille's Ultimatum
Camille hadn't slept. She stood on the edge of the village square as dawn broke, arms folded tightly across her chest. The vision of Jace holding Elle—Lina, she now knew—burned behind her eyes.
When she finally caught Jace alone outside the carpenter's shop, she didn't waste words.
"You're making a mistake," she snapped.
Jace paused, wiping sawdust from his hands. "I don't have time for this."
"She's going to leave you," Camille said. "When she gets her memory back, you'll just be another chapter she forgets."
Jace's eyes darkened. "You don't know her."
"I know women like her. I've seen them pass through. Money. Power. They don't settle for men who chop wood and fix roofs."
He walked away, but her voice followed him like a dagger.
"When she breaks your heart, don't come running back to me."
