CHAPTER 4
ILSA'S POV
The dude who had tried to persuade me to go home looked aghast as he stared at Leonardo like he had suddenly grown a new head. I guessed he never expected him to change his mind so easily and his new decision took him by surprise.
It also took me by surprise, I had no idea that what was supposed to be an empty threat, had such an impact on him that it made him change his mind. I mean a few minutes ago he looked like he was never going to go back on his words, but after he had stared blankly at the window he changed his mind.
It was strange, but I had nothing to care about. It was better than getting kicked out of the company. Although I had this urge to ask him why he changed his mind, I ignored it. Ignorance was bliss they say but the urge only grew deeper.
Maybe he was scared by my threat? Maybe he felt tired of dragging the issue? Or maybe he had a bigger plan of revenge?
There were too many maybes but I let out a deep sigh and pushed the thought aside, although there was this strange feeling I just could not understand. I was not sure how to put it. Fear? Anxiety? Or probably nervousness?
I was certain what it was exactly, but I had this fear that something big was going to happen and he had not just let it slide the way I thought he did. There was surely a reason for the sudden change of heart. But for now, I was going to enjoy my work here, get paid and pay off my debt while I focused on my master's degree pursuit.
I got home that evening feeling exhausted and hungry. I had skipped lunch while trying my best to get used to every single machine in the office. I had to master every one of our top clients and also organized my boss's schedule. Antonio, the guy with the annoying smirk, had helped a lot in putting me through.
It turned out he had been the one helping Leonardo out with my job since all his assistants had resigned. Antonio was his best friend and the only person who took his attitude so he had no other choice than to stick to his best pal.
I laid on the bed tired as I let out a soft sigh while I stared at the ceiling blankly. I had no idea what to eat, and I had the energy to fix anything to eat. Being the CEO's assistant could be very annoying and hectic but I had no idea until now.
I should have thanked him and gotten the fuck out of his office when he told me I was fired if I had knew, but I had forced myself and became his assistant. My phone buzzed with a new message notification and I frowned.
I sat upright and picked up the phone as i checked the message, it was my best friend Lisa.
"Off work?" the message read and I chuckled. She had been texting me non-stop since I was at work. Since I told her that I would be resuming work at the DLL group of companies, an hour had not gone by without a text from her to check up on me.
She was a few years older than me but we blended like juice and ice. She lives in New York which was of course a distant from Las Vegas but we still tried to meet up once in a while. We had been friends since we were in high school and we had been inseparable since then.
A smile curved on my face as I saw her name appear on my screen and immediately picked up the call.
"Lisa" I called tiredly but a smile spread on my face.
"Isla baby!" she screamed playfully and I chuckled at her playful attitude.
"Guess who almost got sacked on the first day of work?" I said jokingly and she nodded.
"Hell no, did you hit someone?" she asked, her high-pitched voice sounded terrified.
She knew me too well and knew how stubborn and short-tempered I could be. I wasn't offended that she thought I beat up someone. I had almost lost my temper today and punched the nerd-looking guy, Leonardo and even Antonio in the face but I did a great job sucking in my anger.
I told her all about how my shity first day at work went for almost one hour without leaving out any detail and she was aghast.
"You need to be careful of Leonardo, you know?" she answered her voice laced with concern but I scoffed.
"Oh come, what's the worst that can happen?" I answered and I heard her chuckled lightly.
"I know you are fearless but he is more powerful than you think he is okay? Just make sure you are safe okay?" she answered softly and I frowned.
I had no idea why she was scared of him but I was not. He could be whatever he was for all I care. I don't give a fuck about that.
"Fine, I understand you. I will try my best not to beat him up" I answered jokingly and her laughter filled my ears.
"Isla I have to go now, I will call you again tomorrow okay?" She responded and ended the call when I said goodbye to her.
I was silent for a few minutes before I let out a deep sigh.
"He is more powerful than I think?" I muttered those words. Lisa had always supported me in anything I did and warned me when I did things wrong but this time around something felt off.
Like she had something to say about him but on second thought kept it to herself. I have no idea what it was but there was something strange about Leonardo Da Lusa and I needed to find out what it was.
