Chapter 116 - Chapter 115: Trial of Strength (Final Tier)

Caleb sat atop Dragonite and used Scout on the Regigigas below...

The next second, Regigigas's information appeared before him:

[Regigigas : Legendary Tier · Tier-One Deity]

[Description: A colossal Pokémon that has survived since ancient times. Legends say it dragged continents bound by ropes and created Pokémon resembling itself using special icebergs, rocks, and magma.]

«Hint: A native legendary Pokémon of the Pokémon world, possessing immense power. This Pokémon is not artificially created by the Infinite World!»

If Hunter J could be considered a minor boss in this Instance, then this Regigigas was undoubtedly the ultimate final boss...

And now, the final boss swatted away the minor boss who had disturbed its slumber with a single punch, then slowly raised its body, its six eyes locking onto Dragonite in midair.

The idiot Hunter J had been killed off by the plot.

Seeing this, Caleb immediately turned to leave without hesitation, but the surrounding air suddenly grew thick and viscous.

"Wuu!"

Dragonite panted heavily, gritting its teeth as it struggled to fly forward, but its body uncontrollably began descending.

Caleb turned his head and saw a faint blue glow emanating from Regigigas.

That was… a Psychic-type move: Gravity!

At that moment, the long-unseen quest panel popped up:

[Player Caleb Chase has triggered "Trial of Strength" (Final Tier)!]

[Trial Objective: Defeat the opponent before you.]

[Completion Reward: Regigigas's Boon...]

[Participating Pokémon Confirmed! Dragonite has been selected!]

[All other Pokémon on the fifth floor have automatically returned to the player's Inventory. No Pokémon may be released during the Trial of Strength!]

[Countdown to Trial Start...]

<3!>

<2!>

<1!>

As the countdown ended, Regigigas standing atop the central altar of the sixth floor finally moved...

Watching this, Caleb had a certain three-letter acronym in mind that he wasn't sure he should voice. But clearly, there was no turning back now.

Dragonite beside him seemed to realize the gravity of the situation as well... Frowning as it stared at Regigigas.

"Fly upward and use Agility!" Caleb forced himself to stay calm and issued the command.

"Wuuu!"

Dragonite took a deep breath, relaxing its body to make itself lighter, then violently flapped its wings and spiraled into the air.

Regigigas's six eyes flickered incessantly. It glanced up at Dragonite, then a Psychic glow enveloped its massive body as it slowly began floating upward.

Facing a Regigigas more than twice its size, Dragonite also benefited from the damage boost of the 'Gigantamax Slayer' title.

Regigigas was a Normal-type, which among all eighteen types was only weak to Fighting.

With Gigantamax Slayer's 10% and Dragon Fang's 20% boosts, Dragon-type moves had become the optimal choice against Regigigas.

Caleb looked up at Regigigas and commanded firmly, "Use Twister!"

Dragonite gathered a swirling storm of purple energy in its maw.

In that instant, Regigigas moved as well. Its fist radiated a dark ghostly light as it charged through the Twister, arriving right in front of Dragonite and delivering a punch straight to its face.

[Regigigas used Knock Off! Dragonite's Dragon Fang has been knocked away and cannot be used again for the remainder of this battle!]

The sheer force of the blow sent Dragonite crashing into the ground.

"Dragonite!"

Caleb rushed to Dragonite's side, placed his hand on it and channeled his Viridian Power at full power.

A brilliant green light rapidly restored Dragonite's health.

"Wuu…"

Dragonite let out a weak cry and gently patted Caleb's fluffy head with its claw.

Regigigas slowly descended from the air, shattering the moment of harmony.

"Wuu!"

Dragonite turned its head to glance at Caleb, forcing a reassuring grin.

"Scared?" Caleb asked.

"Wuu wuu!" Dragonite shook its head, its eyes blazing with defiance.

"Then let's keep fighting!" Caleb stood and took a few steps back, returning the battlefield to Dragonite.

In terms of speed, Regigigas and Dragonite (after one Agility boost) were evenly matched.

In terms of raw power, Dragonite was clearly outclassed by this ancient behemoth.

"Use Agility again!" Caleb ordered firmly.

"Wuu!"

Dragonite complied and shot back into the air.

Regigigas gave chase, and the two Pokémon (one massive, one small) raced across the sixth underground level at blinding speeds.

"Agility!"

After three consecutive Agility boosts, Dragonite's speed finally surpassed Regigigas's.

Unable to land a single hit, Regigigas's eyes flickered even faster. A blue glow enveloped its body, and the air in the underground chamber grew heavy once more.

It had used Gravity again...

Dragonite panicked for a split second, recalling what had happened earlier, but then Caleb's voice cut through its thoughts, "Don't resist the gravity! Use Dragon Rush and charge at it with everything you've got!"

Dragonite relaxed its body, steeling its resolve before abruptly turning and diving straight toward Regigigas below.

Under the effects of Gravity, the speed and power of this downward Dragon Rush reached terrifying levels.

*BOOM!*

A deafening collision echoed through the chamber.

Regigigas's enormous body was sent flying backward, skidding over a dozen meters before finally coming to a stop.

The Gravity field dissipated, and Dragonite returned to the air.

Regigigas pushed itself up, slowly raising an arm toward Dragonite.

The next moment, sharp stone pillars erupted from the walls, attacking Dragonite from all directions.

- Stone Edge: A Rock-type move with 100 base power...

And it was firing multiple times!

Caleb's heart sank as he watched.

Dragonite dodged the first, and the second, but couldn't evade the rest.

Its massive body crashed to the ground, once again on the brink of fainting.

Regigigas lowered its arm and stood motionless, calmly observing Caleb and Dragonite as if waiting for them to recover.

"Damn it!" Caleb rushed to Dragonite's side and channeled his Viridian Power once more.

Soon, Dragonite opened its eyes, gazing apologetically at Caleb with a soft whimper:

"Wuu…"

If you were facing an opponent of unknown strength who could one-shot you, what would you choose?

A. Fight recklessly to the death...

B. The best tactic... retreat and live to fight another day...

C. Stay put and wait for death...

Without a doubt, B was the best option.

Caleb subtly pointed upward, signaling Dragonite to flee the moment it got up.

Dragonite nodded in understanding, then rolled onto its stomach and braced for takeoff.

"Go!" Caleb leaped onto Dragonite's back, clinging tightly to its neck.

"Wuuu!"

Dragonite flapped its wings, accelerating to top speed as it shot toward the hole leading upward.

It was fast, but Regigigas was faster...

The moment Dragonite took off, Regigigas extended its arm. And the same scene played out again!

"Dragon Pulse!" Caleb barked.

Dragonite opened its maw, unleashing a violet energy beam that shattered the incoming Stone Edges.

'Almost there! Just a little farther!'

Seeing this, Regigigas abandoned Stone Edge and instead activated Psychic, launching itself into the air like a cannonball and slamming into Dragonite using the Steel-type move, Heavy Slam!

Dragonite was instantly knocked into a near-faint state.

Regigigas landed gracefully, its six glowing eyes fixed on Caleb.

As Caleb healed Dragonite yet again, he couldn't help but feel aggrieved.

"We Can't win, we can't escape, and the opponent even gives us time to heal... this is pure torture..."
