Chapter 7 - Çhapter 7- bouquet of brothers

 Lexi.

"Well?" Rhea stared at me in expectation. She was such a nosey little demon.

Evelyn was looking at me with an arched brow. She was the nonchalant one of the group but make no mistakes about her, she loved drama.

We were all seated on my cheap apartment floor eating pizza and drinking a bottle of expensive wine- part of the Valentine gifts they'd gotten me.

 "I'm not answering your questions,"

 I said again.

Eve grinned, eyes shining with mischief.

"It was good then, wasn't it?" she wiggled her brows at me.

 "Shut up,"

I said, taking a gulp of my wine in order to avoid talking about it more. knowing Rhea and Eve, it was a waste of time.

"Ouu she's blushing…." Rhea clapped like a schoolgirl as she glanced at Eve.

"The both of you stop. I'm still mad at you,"

 "No, you're not." Rhea giggled.

Eve followed and soon I was giggling with them.

Despite my bad luck, it felt good to be around my friends again.

 They were my everything.

"You are right. I'm mad at the handsome fool for deceiving me. I can't believe he made a bet on me like some price horse or something,"

"I mean, in his defense, it could have been anyone," Eve pointed out.

I glared at her and she slowly looked away.

She was right of course but I couldn't help but feel stupid anyway.

 "That's not the point, Eve!"

"We are sorry, Lex," Rhea interjected but she had an amused expression on her face that made me think she wasn't all that sorry.

 I let out a sigh.

"Whatever. Tell me about your trip. Distract me."

Rhea and Evelyn proceeded to tell me everything that happened with their boyfriends. Rhea was proposed to by her boyfriend and Evelyn's boyfriend got her a new car.

I was happy for them. We talked way into the night they had to go home to their men.

I took a shower before falling asleep.

I had only laid my head on the pillow for a minute and a half when my alarm blared.

I grimaced as I tried to search for my phone on the dresser without standing up.

"Oh for goodness sake!' I groaned before puking myself up. The phone was directly under my boobs.

It was 7am. I had gone to bed by 1am..

I needed to sleep more but that wasn't going to happen now.

 I was already awake.

I pulled off the cover and began to make my way towards the bathroom.

 My head pounded.

Ah, yes. If it isn't the consequences of my own action. The girls and I drank two bottles of wine last night.

As soon as I peed and cleaned up, I put on my robe and trudged out of my room, feeling dizzy.

I got myself some Tylenol and then began to brew some tea for myself.

The entire house was quiet and a little dirty

I didn't mind. I needed some form of distraction. I was still reminded that I didn't have a job and I didn't want that.

I was going to email a few companies later on today and hope I get a decent job with a decent salary. Rhea has offered to get her father to help me out but I didn't want that. He'd gotten me this one and I couldn't go back to him. I would look stupid.

As soon as my tea was ready, I took a sip and the soothing smell and taste immediately pumped me up and made my feel much better.

I was about to start sweeping, when my phone rang.

I grabbed it from the kitchen counter and stared at the caller ID.

 It was unknown.

Part of me didn't want to answer it.

With a sigh, I picked up the call

"Hello, who am I speaking with, please?"

"Glad you finally returned my call."

Richards dark velvety voice through the phone.

"Why the hell are you calling me?"

"Why am I calling you? You left without saying anything. What the hell is wrong with you? I thought something had happened to you,"

 God, thos man was infuriating!

"Well, nothing happened. Now good bye," I said and immediately hung up.

My phone rang again almost immediately but this time, I didn't bother to pick up

I knew it was him and I wanted nothing to do with him.

Men like him were provis and absolutely selfish.

I turned my phone on silent and tossed it onto the couch, determind to ignore him. Richard could stew in his own guilt for all I cared.

Grabbing the broom, I focused on sweeping the floor, letting the rhythmic motion distract me. But my mind refused to stay quiet. His voice still echoed in my head, deep smooth and annoyingly familiar.

 You left without saying goodbye.

Like he had the right to be upset. I scoffed, sweeping harder.

 What did he expect?

A heartfelt goodbye? A thank you not for humiliating me and bringing back middle school memories?

 I shuddered.

I finished tidying up my tiny spacez showered. Made myself some toast and bacon before taking our my computer and settling down. The job hunt was long overdue.

I opened my email and sent out a bunch of applications to at least 20 companies before I got hungry again and went to make myself lunch.

As I made myself a low budget sandwich, a knock sounded at the door.

"Who the hell is that?" I asked under my breath

Annoyed by the interruption, I made my way to the door and opened it. At the door was my little brother, Aiden, a huge smile on his face.

 "Hello sis,"

"What the hell are you doing here?" i asked.

"Is that anyway to talk to your precious brother?" He asked.

I shook my head in confusion. I didn't have time to process his arrival

because beside him was a delivery guy, holding a bouquet of flowers, staring at me expectantly.

I glanced at my brother and he shook his head. "Can't afford it but thank you for believing in me, Sis," he said before barrelling past me.

 Fuck my life.
