Chapter 6 - Chapter 005

Chapter 6: Is That... a Tree?

In an instant, Xu Le received many memories, but this particular memory was so intense that it felt as if he had truly experienced it personally.

Perhaps this memory was the one that the original owner regretted the most!

Besides these, Xu Le found many incredible things in the original owner's memories.

However, to verify these things, one thing had to be done.

That was to survive and return.

Now it seemed safe, but the actual situation was worse than he had imagined.

The things he would face next were not at all simpler than these two strange creatures.

Because what he would face next were people!

...

Xu Le looked at the medal again, his expression becoming conflicted.

It was a bronze medal.

On the front was the symbol of a lighthouse, while on the back were recorded some time information and the main achievements of the medal's owner.

The text was small and cramped, but Xu Le's eyesight was good, so he could basically read it clearly.

[Lighthouse Low Merit, in New Calendar Year 335, rescued a Dark Pioneer sorcerer in Area B17.]

[Lighthouse Low Merit, successfully retired in New Calendar Year 339.]

[The Soul of an Old Soldier, Though Dead Yet Living—Hunting Blade Team 11, Number 93 - Zhou Ke.]

Although it was just a few simple sentences, it revealed quite a bit of information.

Especially now that Xu Le had obtained the original owner's memories, combining the two, he could confirm a lot of information.

First, he had really transmigrated. Although it was unbelievable, it was also an undeniable fact. There was basically no need to doubt it; this was not acting, nor was it a game.

Second, the city-state they were in was called Lighthouse, and besides Lighthouse, there were three other large human-established safe zones.

They were Tianrui Lifeng, which valued martial prowess; Zion, the city of technology; and the Red Moon Temple, the holy land of sorcerers.

Third, this world had supernatural powers.

If the medal in his hand was truly the same as the one in the original owner's memory.

Then its value would be immeasurable.

"A legendary Ancient Multitude relic! A true supernatural object.

But Old Zhou's last wish... sigh."

Xu Le sighed, not knowing how to handle it.

The original owner's personality was too outrageous. From the perspective of a modern person like him, it could only be described as bad.

Or perhaps it couldn't just be described as bad, but also vicious, malicious, arrogant, envious, and willing to do anything to achieve his goals.

Any word that could be associated with 'bad', the original owner had some connection to it.

If such a person were to be killed in retaliation, Xu Le would probably applaud and cheer.

Shouting that justice had prevailed.

But the problem now was that this person was now himself!

Ah, Xu Le stared at Zhou Ke's mutilated corpse on the ground and lowered his head:

"I'm sorry."

Perhaps he was no longer the Xu Le from before, and this apology might not have much meaning.

But Xu Le still felt that this could make him feel a bit better inside.

...

After slowly nodding to express his apology, his actions seemed to catch the toad's attention.

It looked at Xu Le with slight disgust and said disdainfully:

"Only humans would use such things contaminated by the Ancient Multitude.

Those who live in shadows have no hope of light."

Things contaminated by the Ancient Multitude? Xu Le remained silent for a few seconds before deciding to offer a small rebuttal:

"Different people view things from different perspectives.

Can the great Golden Toad survive alone in a dark environment?"

"Of course I can, what's so difficult about that?"

The Golden Toad said with some disdain, but this was exactly the attitude Xu Le wanted. He slowly shook his head:

"I can't."

The Golden Toad was slightly stunned, but eventually nodded, neither refuting Xu Le's words nor continuing to rebuke him for picking up the Ancient Multitude relic.

Seeing that the Golden Toad had been persuaded by him, Xu Le felt somewhat pleased.

Before he could say anything else, the medal in his hand underwent some strange changes.

Although it was just an ordinary medal, when held in his hand, it felt like a writhing mollusk.

This slimy feeling startled Xu Le, and he quickly threw the medal away.

"Damn, what the hell is this?"

The medal was thrown onto the wooden bed, rolled a few times, and then lay quietly on the bed board, showing no further movement.

There were no writhing changes or anything like that.

Xu Le frowned slightly. Having experienced supernatural events a few times, he already had some judgments in mind.

Maintaining focus, a feeling of heat gradually rose.

As this feeling appeared, the badge in front of him also gradually changed.

The bronze-colored medal, in Xu Le's eyes at this moment, had turned completely black.

Numerous small black tentacles extended from the cracks in the middle of the medal, wriggling around.

Xu Le realized that the slimy, writhing feeling from earlier must have been caused by these tentacles.

Xu Le didn't rashly approach it. Keeping a distance, he began to observe this strange medal before him.

The moment he gripped the medal again, that slimy, writhing sensation persisted.

This time, Xu Le didn't let go. He said softly:

"The soul of an old soldier, though dead yet living.

I will help you fulfill your last wish, please trust me."

A cool sensation flowed into his body through his skin, and the medal also sank back into his fingertips.

"Agreed?" This feeling was quite nice.

Xu Le put away the medal. Regarding Zhou Ke's last wish, he had a rough idea.

"It should be about his wife and daughter, right?"

The original owner had killed Zhou Ke with his own hands, which left Xu Le at a loss for how to explain to Zhou Ke's wife and child.

Should he make up a reason, saying he didn't kill the person?

But he clearly did kill him!

Should he explain that he was a transmigrator? That certainly wouldn't work.

So he needed a reasonable explanation. What should he do to fulfill Old Zhou's last wish?

The last wish of a husband, a father?

Xu Le couldn't help but think of his own father.

His father was big, big enough to encompass his entire happy childhood.

His father was also small, small enough to fit into a square box.

If...

With all sorts of thoughts, Xu Le directly passed out.

His current body was not even in a healthy state.

The massive blood loss from the chest wound, consecutive mental stimulations, the depletion of adrenaline, the impact of various fears.

And the fatigue after surviving a disaster.

All of these were impacting Xu Le.

After his body's senses confirmed that there was no immediate danger in the surroundings, all the fatigue instantly overwhelmed Xu Le's will, causing him to directly fall unconscious.

This was actually a form of self-protection by the body.

When Xu Le fell into the deepest level of sleep, he suddenly felt a sense of clarity.

This feeling of clarity was strange. He could confirm that he was sleeping, but if he was sleeping, why were his thoughts so clear?

Suddenly opening his eyes, in front of him was darkness, with just a tiny bit of light in the distance.

Xu Le began to walk towards the light.

He walked very slowly, but the light seemed to be pulled closer by some force.

After just a few steps, Xu Le could see the things in the light clearly.

That was...
