Chapter 79 - Chapter 78: A New Beginning for Marcus

As Alpha Marcus Irving of the White Dawn Pack stood at the edge of the grand courtyard in Barduff Castle, watching the festivities, the air was crisp. The alliance had brought years of peace, but something inside of him had remained uneasy—until now. He had spent years longing for something he had lost, a bond he had hoped to form with Leah, but fate had other plans, and he had long accepted that her heart belonged irrevocably to Jacob. That chapter was closed, but tonight, as he watched the happy gathering, he felt a shift—an unfamiliar lightness.

A figure moving elegantly through the crowd caught his attention. She was talking to Luna Leah, a glowing example of confidence and warmth. The new ambassador from the Northern Ridge Pack, Lady Evelyne Dumas, was as formidable a presence as any Alpha. She had emerald eyes and spun-gold hair, and she exuded the poise of someone who understood her value.

With interest sparked, Marcus approached them. Leah caught his eye, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Alpha Marcus," she said as she moved aside to present them. Lady Evelyne is this person. She has come to strengthen our diplomatic ties."

With a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips, Evelyne held out her hand. "Alpha Marcus, I've heard a lot about you. You appear to have a reputation that comes before you.

He grasped her hand and experienced an unexpected surge of warmth. "Hopefully, only the good parts."

She laughed. "That remains to be seen."

They became deeply engaged in conversation as the evening wore on. Marcus had never met a woman like Evelyne before; she was fiercely independent, sharp-witted, and not afraid to challenge him. She spoke of strategy and alliances with keen insight, but also of her love for the wild northern landscapes, of running through the snow in her wolf form beneath the moon.

For the first time in years, Marcus found himself captivated not by the past, but by the possibilities of the future.

By the end of the evening, he had decided on something. He would stop thinking about things that never happened. Rather, he would follow this new course, which for the first time in a long time seemed to have the potential to lead to something tangible.

He turned to Evelyne and grinned as he led her to the garden terrace of the castle. "Perhaps we should test if my reputation is truly deserved."

A spark of something fresh and thrilling passed through him when she laughed. "Perhaps we should."

Suddenly, a new chapter was underway.
