Chiyu poured his own aura of authority into the famous Sword Yubashiri, further infusing it with powerful Lightning Release. This slash was the strongest he could muster!
Yet Red‑Haired Shanks was still one of the Four Emperors. He had once crossed blades with the world's greatest Swordsman, Dracule "Hawk‑Eye" Mihawk; his Swordsmanship had likewise reached unfathomable heights.
The two blades crashed together with a thunderous boom.
The violent shockwave split the entire base of the Buggy Pirates in two!
Buggy the Clown blanched in terror.
"Shanks is one thing, but that Uchiha Chiyu is this terrifying too?!
No wonder he really intends to purge the whole East Blue…"
It was the first time Sword's members had seen Chiyu fight with all his might; awe and reverence welled up inside them. Absolute power commands absolute obedience.
Nami, however, could not hide her worry. She believed in Chiyu-sama—but the enemy was one of the legendary Four Emperors!
Both Chiyu and Shanks recoiled from the clash, then instantly darted forward again, moving like twin bolts of lightning. In mere heartbeats they exchanged dozens of blows. To the onlookers, only flashing arcs of light and crashing thunder could be seen, the blade‑edges flickering across the sky faster than the eye could follow.
Despite hating Shanks, Buggy could not help but be stunned.
"Damn… Did that guy Shanks really inherit Captain's power?!
That sword is exactly the same as Roger's back in the day…
His talent really is far above mine!
But Uchiha Chiyu isn't falling behind at all?!"
At this moment Chiyu's vision, experience and almost god‑like awareness came into play. On raw power he was still below Shanks, yet by relying on his "divine intuition" he fought the Emperor to a stand‑still.
Without even activating the Mangekyō Sharingan he could already see every flaw and weakness in Shanks' movements—and Shanks himself was not yet at his absolute peak.
The longer Shanks fought, the more shocked he became. His opponent's speed and power were inferior, yet Shanks simply could not break through Chiyu's insight. Even Mihawk had never given him such a chilling feeling!
Blood racing, Shanks laughed wildly.
"Good! To meet such a strong foe in the East Blue of all places!
Let's settle it with one strike.
This move is Captain Roger's trump card. I never learned it, but I've reconstructed its essence from memory. Though imperfect, there are few alive who can withstand it. If you survive, I'll admit defeat—and Buggy's fate is yours to decide."
Buggy: "—Hey!!!"
Chiyu instantly recognized the technique and raised his power to the limit.
"Very well."
Powers from two worlds—Naruto and One Piece—merged. Chiyu poured every ounce of chakra—ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, forbidden arts, Sharingan, Lightning and Fire Release—into a single slash, further wreathing it with the Marines' "Six Styles" techniques.
Shanks unleashed everything as well. His Conqueror's Haki erupted, black lightning coiling around his blade Gryphon until it became a colossal dark Sword.
Laughing like the Pirate King Roger reborn, he roared:
"Take this… Marine Uchiha Chiyu— Divine Departure!"
Buggy's face went sheet‑white.
"Th‑that really is Roger's trump card—Divine Departure!
Shanks actually mastered it on his own?!"
In that instant heaven and earth shook. Gryphon, wreathed in black Haki, swung with a force that could cleave all creation; the Haki burst outward as a shockwave blanketing the entire base. Every Marine froze, overawed; Nami clasped her hands, silently praying, "Chiyu-sama, please be careful…"
Chiyu's answering slash—the strongest he could produce—was still driven back. The torrent of power swept away his chakra and tore toward his body. Iron Body could not block it, Paper Drawing could not evade its reach.
But Chiyu had one more card. His Sharingan flared blood‑red; the sudden glare made the prevailing Shanks' heart skip a beat.
"So that's… the Marine Reaper's Crimson Demon Eyes?!"
With the Sharingan active, every flaw was laid bare. In a flash Chiyu thrust again, striking precisely at the apex of Divine Departure—its single weak point!
Shanks' face paled.
"Impossible—!"
Boom!
The earth cracked, the sky roared. Chiyu's strike pierced the raging attack, flashed past Shanks, and ripped his black cloak in two. Both men landed; the pirate base lay utterly in ruins.
After a long silence Shanks sighed.
"You've won. My Divine Departure isn't perfect—but even I didn't know its sharpest point hid its fatal flaw. Your eyes truly see everything."
Chiyu shook his head.
"I won, but you didn't lose. Your overall strength is still above mine. If you hadn't forced this unfinished trump card, I'd have been the one defeated."
Shanks burst out laughing.
"A man like you, within the Marines! Admirable!
But a loss is a loss. I won't go back on my word. Buggy is yours to deal with."
Buggy panicked.
"Hey, Shanks, you're really abandoning me?!"
Shanks replied solemnly:
"Buggy, from the day we boarded Roger's ship as kids we accepted the risk of death. Once friends and crewmates, now we lead separate crews—meaning we're enemies. I've done all I can."
Amazingly, Buggy calmed.
"Heh, you really know how to act cool. But I'm no coward! Uchiha Chiyu—do it! To die by such a strong man's hand is an honor!"
Shanks smiled.
"That's more like it. I have a feeling this man will one day surpass the three Admirals, Fleet Admiral Sengoku—perhaps even the hero Garp. A Marine even Roger would have feared…"
Buggy laughed: "With that, I can die smiling!"
Touched yet unhesitant, Chiyu struck.
Lightning Release: Finger Gun!
A bolt pierced Buggy's forehead—his head exploded in a spray of gore. The "lucky" clown rumored to become an Emperor died then and there.
Silence reigned. Shanks honored the agreement but could not help a heavy sigh for his childhood friend.
"Uchiha Chiyu, I kept my word—but Buggy was my friend. Next time we meet I'll kill you, for Buggy, for Roger, for this whole Pirate Era."
Chiyu answered coldly, "Likewise."
Shanks laughed once, glanced at Buggy's corpse, and left without looking back.
Only then did Sword's men exhale—soaked in cold sweat. Nami wiped her tears and smiled.
"Th‑thank goodness…"
Sword's lieutenant exclaimed, "Chiyu-sama, even Red‑Haired Shanks fell before you! Your name will shake the world!"
Chiyu shook his head.
"He didn't lose—and this was only the beginning. Next time we'll settle it for real on the Grand Line."
With Buggy dead, his surviving crew were swiftly wiped out. The Buggy Pirates were no more.
In just a few months Chiyu's East Blue purge had already destroyed:
Arlong Pirates
Krieg Pirates
Black Cat Pirates
Alvida Pirates
Buggy Pirates
He also rooted out corrupt Marines—Captain Nezumi, Captain Morgan—nearly cleansing half the East Blue. Yet he did not stop; countless other pirates, bandits and brigands still awaited judgment. Over the next three months he hunted them all down.
…
Marineford, Navy Headquarters
Admiral Akainu (Sakazuki) read the report from Vice Admirals Doberman and Onigumo.
"So… Uchiha Chiyu really cleared the entire East Blue? And even fought that bastard Red‑Haired Shanks?!"
Even Akainu was shaken; the duel impressed him more than the purge.
Doberman and Onigumo, drenched in sweat:
"He survived a battle with Shanks, made him concede, and executed Shanks' old friend Buggy before his eyes… We clearly underestimated him."
A cruel smile crept onto Akainu's face.
"Good… Excellent. A man like that is exactly what the Navy needs."
A lazy voice cut in.
"Is that so, Sakazuki?"
Admiral Aokiji (Kuzan) strolled in, flopped into a chair and skimmed the reports. Tension filled the room—the magma and ice admirals had never seen eye to eye.
Kuzan murmured, staring at Chiyu's blood‑red eyes on the page:
"What a frightening fellow… He kills without hesitation—even in front of Shanks. Praising that risks provoking all Four Emperors."
Akainu scoffed, "You think peaceful coexistence with them is possible?"
Kuzan shrugged. "Unlikely, but better than fighting all four at once. That man clearly intends to."
"You still support him?"
Akainu blew a smoke ring. "Absolutely."
Kuzan stood, hands in pockets.
"Then I've nothing more to say. Just remember—Four Emperors and Seven Warlords exist as checks and balances. Don't break that balance lightly."
Akainu: "Spare me your lecture."
Kuzan left. The vice admirals wiped cold sweat.
"Admiral Sakazuki, your orders?"
After a pause Akainu said:
"Broadcast Uchiha Chiyu's achievements to the whole world—to strike fear into every pirate and show our strength. Promote him to Rear Admiral immediately, and—in my name—grant him authority of life and death over pirates and all evil."
The two vice admirals gasped; such power required Fleet Admiral Sengoku's approval.
Akainu's glare silenced them. "Do it."
…
Uchiha Chiyu's name resounded across the world—the Marine Reaper who purged the East Blue, rising to Rear Admiral faster than anyone in history. Pirates everywhere trembled; civilians and Marines alike cheered the coming of a savior.
