Arin's pov
"Your world is about to change." A voice whispered to me. I turned around but everywhere was dark and I couldn't make anything or anyone out.
"Who is there?" I called out into the darkness.
"I'm a friend Arin, no need to be frightened." The soft voice called out to me.
"What do you want with me?" I questioned, my senses on high alert as I could feel the person moving around me in circles.
"I don't want anything from you. I'm here to help you." The woman revealed and my brows furrowed in confusion.
"Help me?" I asked.
"You might not know it now Arin but I will guide you down this path you are about to embark on." The woman revealed, confusing me even further.
"Why don't you show yourself?" I called out in the direction I heard her voice.
"I will...when the time is right." She replied as her voice slowly faded away and I regained consciousness.
"Happy birthday to me." I muttered dryly as I rubbed away the sleep lingering in my eyes. I vaguely remembered the strange dream I had but I couldn't quite place what it was. I could still her a woman's soft voice ringing in my ear but I couldn't make out her words.
I felt a slight burn by my collarbone but when I touched it I felt nothing.
Well that was weird.
It was still dark outside and as I rose from my bed I stilled. For the very first time ever I felt my wolf stir within me. My wolf nudged me towards the forest, clearly wanting to be let out for the first time. I checked the time and stealthily made my way out of the pack house, not wanting to wake anyone else. There was still a little time before everyone else would wake up and begin their chores. I ran as quickly as I could towards the forest and my wolf leaped within me. She couldn't seem to take it anymore and she took control. The sound of bones cracking filled the air and I muffled my scream of pain, not wanting to be found out. The transformation was wretching and I fought to gain control from my wolf but she wouldn't bulge. Several agonizing seconds later I stood on my four paws and my black wolf howled in ecstasy. My wolf bounded into the forest and everything else faded along with the passing forestry. I couldn't say how long I ran but my wolf revelled in it's new found freedom and only when the first rays of sunrise began to caress me did I realize my time was up.
I turned and began to make my way back to the pack house, knowing I was already late on my chores and a few omega's would be looking for me.
"Stop." Elder Mava called out and my wolf immediately halted.
"Change." She threw a dress at me and turned. I took control and transformed, putting on the dress before I turned back to her and cleared my throat.
Her eyes assessed me and I knew I was in so much trouble.
Elder Mava was the seer of the pack, a woman of few words who seemed to know almost about everything that was going on within the pack.
What was she even doing here?
"Omega's aren't to run in these woods." She began slowly, walking towards me.
"My wolf took control." I muttered in way of explanation.
It was just my luck that the one time I ventures into these woods, I had been caught. I was somewhat glad it was her rather than anyone else who would most likely report me to Beta Callen.
"Is this your first time changing?" She asked calmly and I nodded. There it was again, that burning sensation by my collarbone. I ignored the pain and tried not to fidget as she spoke to me.
"Yes, it is." I divulged and she hummed low in her throat.
"I should get going to the pack house, I have a lot of chores to do." I said softly when she remained silent. The way she stared at me was nerve racking and set my wolf on edge.
Her eyes were fixed at my neck and she took a step closer to me before her hand came up and grazed my collarbone, right where it burned.
"This can't be possible." She muttered as she looked from my neck to me.
"What?" I asked, my eyes carefully scanning her face.
"Have you found your mate?" She questioned instead.
"No, not yet." I revealed and her eyes sharpened.
"It's you." Elder Mava announced with wide eyes.
"What?" I stared at her in confusion.
What was happening?
"Return to the pack." She said calmly, her face now blank.
"What's on my neck? If you know something about me then I think I should have the right to know." I frowned at her but she remained unfazed.
"You are an omega, I owe you nothing so it would be best you remember your place in this pack." She stared coldly at me and I shrunk back.
"If anything unusual happens, seek me out immediately." She said as she gave me a pointed look.
"Unsual like what?" I asked.
She knew something... something that clearly involved me. What I didn't get was why she was being tight-lipped about it.
"The less you know the better, for your own good. Time will reveal all things." She shrugged before she turned away and began to walk in the direction she came.
"Enjoy your birthday Arin, things are about to get interesting." She called out to me as I stared after her.
How did she even know my name? And what did she mean things were about to get interesting?
My thoughts were jumbled in my head as my fingers caressed my collarbone but I still couldn't feel anything.
I couldn't help but wonder what elder Mava saw as I walked back to the pack.
