c134: Surrounded
Elsewhere, deep inside the hidden base.
"Brother Dong, all targets have been anesthetized. No resistance," a uniformed trainer in dark gear reported solemnly.
"Good," Brother Dong replied without emotion. "Separate and lock them up. Move the units into the truck, group by type. No damage."
He tapped open his Rotom Pokédex, typing with deliberate precision:
"All targets secured. Preparing for extraction. No surveillance detected."
He hit send.
"Transfer them to Storage Warehouse No. 3. Burn everything inside. Confiscate every communication tool. I want absolute silence. Notify me once you're clear."
The reply from Brother Hui came through moments later, crisp and efficient.
"Understood. Executing now."
Brother Dong smirked faintly. Hui was always cautious, especially after the failed Slateport operation. That taught them not to underestimate elite trainers again.
"Clear," Brother Dong muttered.
He walked toward the loading bay where steel cages reinforced with carbonized Titanium-Z alloy, the kind used by Team Rocket to detain Ultra Beasts were being carefully wheeled onto the container truck. Each cage housed Pokémon of varying sizes bound, unconscious, and sealed within Poké Balls disabled by dampening fields.
From the outside, the truck looked like any other Rustboro freight unit. Inside, however, the container was lined with quantum-dense alloy and signal-nullifying plating. It could have been built by Silph Co. or Devon—perhaps both.
Brother Dong inspected the setup. There was no sound from the caged Pokémon. Not even a Growlithe whimper.
"Status?" he asked.
"All loaded, Brother Dong," one of the grunts reported, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"Pokédexes and com-links. Now."
Without protest, the team queued up and dropped their Rotom Dexes and devices into the duffel bag Dong held out. They knew the protocol. No leaks.
"Now bring out all hard copies," he said coolly. "Everything with ink."
The grunts obeyed, hauling out paper records, mostly shipment logs and coded manifests. Useless to most but possibly incriminating.
Dong nodded at a handler. "Arcanine. Flamethrower. Controlled burst."
The Fire-type complied, neatly incinerating the documents in a contained blaze. Years of smuggling, erased in seconds.
"Move."
All remaining personnel climbed into the container alongside the cages. Dong shut the reinforced doors himself, sealing them with a biometric lock. Then, stepping into the cab, he activated the ignition and drove forward, up a massive hydraulic freight elevator camouflaged within the underground bunker.
With a press of his remote, the elevator rose slowly ten meters up until it reached an upward slope. At the top, a mechanical dome parted, revealing the underside of a seemingly normal mansion garage.
No sound escaped the operation. No trace was left behind.
Dong drove the truck into the garage. The ground behind him closed seamlessly. Not even a drone would detect the difference. The integration of Devon Corp. and Team Yell tech was frighteningly precise.
Just as Dong approached the villa's front gate, a sudden telepathic voice echoed into the mind of a distant observer:
"(Xiaoxiao, they're exiting. Group's heading to the rear exit. Target confirmed.)"
It was Gardevoir, mentally linked with Chen Xiaoxiao. She stood outside, near the garden wall, ready.
"Master Lin, they're moving. Let's close in," Chen Xiaoxiao said calmly.
"Understood. Mina, cut the signals. Total blackout," Master Lin ordered immediately.
"Right away!" replied Secretary Mina, fingers flying across her Rotom Pokédex. A jamming field activated, nullifying all wireless signals in a 300-meter radius—a frequency designed to bypass Rocket and Devon encryptions.
No one would call for help now.
"Let's move. Gardevoir."
The Psychic-type emitted a shimmering aura and vanished, reappearing with Chen Xiaoxiao and Master Lin in a blind corner near the rear gate.
Seconds passed.
The gate creaked open.
A dull rumble sounded as the disguised container truck rolled slowly into view.
"Now!" Lin shouted. "Kartana intercept!"
A blinding flash Kartana appeared beside the rear gate. The Ultra Beast, a living sword of origami steel, zipped toward the front of the truck with blade-like limbs gleaming in the moonlight.
Shhkk!
With surgical precision, Kartana slashed both front tires with its razor-sharp limbs.
BOOM!
The tires burst violently. The truck's nose slammed downward, jolting the container.
Inside the cab, Brother Dong's eyes widened. "Damn!"
He slammed a button the alert inside the container screamed red.
Inside, the grunts were already unsteady from the impact. The alarm only worsened the panic.
Dong opened the container remotely his last hope.
Back outside, Kartana flashed toward the other wheels, its thin arms cutting tire after tire like tissue.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
With all tires blown, the truck sagged on its axles. Escape was impossible.
Dong grabbed for his Pokédex only to find the screen flickering red. No signal.
Cold sweat trickled down his neck.
"This was a trap," he realized. "They knew everything."
Outside, Lin watched calmly.
"Kartana, standby. Aerodactyl deploy!"
He tossed another Poké Ball. With a screech, the fossil Pokémon burst forth. Lin leapt onto its back.
"I'll flank left. Xiaoxiao right side!"
"Understood," Chen Xiaoxiao replied.
With Gardevoir teleporting her to the truck's right, she threw four Poké Balls in one elegant motion.
"Latias, Solgaleo, Metagross, Togekiss!"
Each Pokémon emerged in radiant bursts of light flanking the truck in formation.
Lin mirrored her.
"Venusaur, Lilligant, Sceptile, Leavanny!"
His Grass-types, led by Kartana, completed the semi-circle. Their presence exuded pressure a full battalion of elite-level threats.
Brother Dong's pupils shrank. This wasn't just a police raid.
This was war.
He stared out the cab window faces of seasoned trainers, eyes cold and unwavering. They were backed by Pokémon with legendary and Ultra Beast signatures.
Brother Dong gasped, dread rising.
"It's over."
