Chapter 1 - Part I

Chaos lay before us, a gloomy atmosphere filling a landscape characterized by buildings in obvious disrepair, darkness, and the ongoing consequences of the destruction that remained visible to everyone.

An involuntary gasp escaped me when a car flew past me at a speed that was impossible for me to perceive. It was only by tiny details that I managed to avoid it, but the chills still appeared when I witnessed firsthand how said vehicle crashed forcefully into a wall, subsequently exploding in the process.

In the few moments I was allowed during such an intricate moment, I was able to briefly observe the remains of that means of transportation, now little more than unrecognizable pieces of metal and charred leather. Just thinking about the risk of the matter caused a pressure in the air that was becoming unbearable. Consequently, a heavy stress was brewing, and as such, this was a hindrance at such a bad time. I exhaled with some difficulty, freeing myself, at least a little, of the bad vibes that plagued me. I returned my gaze to the front and tightened my grip on the steering wheel of the car I was driving while doing everything I could to try to summon up the courage I didn't have.

Even in the midst of an accelerated skid across the tracks, I saw how, without being able to do anything about it, I saw how even my arms wanted to succumb to my feelings. The slight tremors weren't very serious, but they lasted long enough to worry me. I was forced to put my mental well-being aside for a moment when the same roar of that thing that had been tormenting me all night was heard in the distance; my ears became aware of how that same thing dared to attempt the same attack as a little while ago. The brightness of the headlights of the vehicle I was holding turned on due to their respective alarm programming, which made itself noticeable, this same thing formed a powerful flash that warned me of what was about to happen.

The situation became even more tense than before. I almost screamed when I saw the piece of metal approaching at a terrifying speed in my car's mirror. My reaction was immediate. I did my best to avoid it as much as possible, but that wasn't enough when the vehicles actually came to crash against each other. Unfortunately for me, this caused the car to suffer an intense collision, even throwing sparks and pushing me in a completely unfortunate way.

The vehicle I was driving would suffer from that shove. Without knowing how to control it, the chaotic result would be that it would crash sideways, running over the numerous objects in the road. After such a poor attempt at stabilizing myself, I didn't even notice the obstacle in front of me.

The pole remained fixed in view, I don't know if it was because of the adrenaline but things seemed to go in slow motion or how but almost instinctively or automatically I pressed the respective buttons, levers and steering wheel to avoid what would have been a fatal collision, of course without leaving a trail of destruction that came in the form of another side collision with this same pole, further destabilizing my trajectory; however, I was able to use that same thing to better skid a turn towards another road and along the way gradually stabilize the battered car, I exhaled a heavy sigh and allowed myself at least a second to calm down. The night that had recently become this heavy and shocking, I was not prepared for something like what ended up happening today.

I left the brief moment of respite until another roar from that thing made itself heard again. I used the rearview mirrors to see which way it might be coming this time. I looked in the mirror that showed behind the car when I heard another skid, this time more intense than the previous ones. I searched desperately, and in the midst of my search, I ended up losing enough time for the vehicle to be violently hit, without me even noticing until it was too late.

The impact wasn't from a distance, it wasn't as striking as I'd hoped, but rather a direct one, ensuring maximum damage; and there I was, screaming in panic as the car wouldn't stop, being thrown sideways so far that I reached the guardrails of another road, which, due to the force and speed at which the vehicle was traveling out of control, was able to break them and pull me down with it.

Panic was escaping me mid-trajectory; the echo of the crash was evident. The fall was exactly on the rear of the car, but that didn't stop me from hitting my head hard on the steering wheel. A thin trickle of blood flowed between my eyes as I tried to reason a little in the midst of the commotion. I wouldn't have the time required when I felt the car tilt again, leaving me with a glimpse of what the next fall would be like. I didn't know how or what to think as soon as I saw the stark emptiness that appeared in front of me.

My blood ran cold, small drops of blood falling from my head onto the dashboard of the car as I felt it slowly tilt toward our inevitable end. I sighed a little to try and calm myself at such a terrible moment, which evidently proved impossible. The creature's shadow hovered over the side of the road, watching my descent, but it seemed much more deeply lost in my own thoughts. I used my last moments to ruffle my hair in a messy knot and appear broken as I tried to hold back even the slightest cry that came automatically.

"Is this how I'll die? Like this?... Maybe it is, it's the most likely but... I always imagined a much more memorable way than this, something more than a simple death report along with the others there are; if this ends like I think it's going to end it will leave behind everything bad I've thought about myself... damn... am I that useless? I failed you all... you deserved better than this... but... but at least I won't have to carry this weight on my shoulders anymore, that must be something, right?" I put aside my thoughts and still with some broken tears when another roar from that thing was heard; however something seemed different, something also seemed to be there, something... bright?

Small flashes of light seemed to bother the creature that was terrorizing me, and it became increasingly angry at this. I couldn't visualize anything else when I felt the final tilt of the car, which would completely tip over and fall very high into the abyss. I could see in front of me how the surface was getting further and further away. Everything seemed to be in slow motion; perhaps it was my brain's response to assimilate everything and let me see how it slowly descended to my end.

However, to my surprise, a burst of light appeared, forcing me to squeeze my eyes shut. At the same time, I heard the furious screams of the beast that had caused all this.I couldn't see anything; the brightness was so intense that I thought it might damage my eyes beyond repair. However, to my surprise, I felt a warm feeling inside, something I couldn't fully explain and that would leave me wondering about the fall that had happened sooner rather than later. It knocked me out in an instant, leaving only a deep blackness visible.

.......

Weeks earlier:

It seemed to be a peaceful morning, a beautiful city reflected in a cheerful atmosphere with a beautiful sun setting overhead and numerous clouds adorning its blue sky. However, this friendly atmosphere was marred by a strange fog, cries of people pleading for help, and some roars in the distance; immediately afterward, it sounded like something metallic was falling from the sky.But all this and more will be explained another time...

To be continued...
