Chapter 253: Competition
The dressing room at the Gtech Community Stadium was loud.
Crawley had just battled to a 1-1 draw against a relentless Brentford side. It was a huge point on the road in miserable January weather, and the mood reflected it.
Liam McCulloch shouted across the room and threw a rolled-up towel at Max Simons, who was still getting pats on the back for his brilliant goal.
Over by the showers, Adam Fletcher was still running on adrenaline, loudly acting out the diving save he'd made in the final minutes.
But in the far corner, Kieron Marsh sat quietly.
He slowly peeled off his shin guards staring at the floor between his boots. While the rest of the team celebrated, Kieron kept replaying the seventieth minute in his head.
The red number nineteen flashing on the board. The jog to the sideline. Putting on a heavy coat while the game went on without him.
