A quiet, shared goodbye to a version of love that had tried its best.

I let go of his hand. Sat back. "We're okay."

He smiled. "Yeah. We are."

When he stood, I walked him to the door.

And when it opened, the night air met us—cool, clean, full of possibilities we no longer needed.

"I'm glad you won," he said. "You earned it."

"Thank you," I said.

He hesitated, then leaned in—just enough to press a soft, brief kiss to my forehead.

Not longing.

Not regret.

Just a farewell.

When he walked away, I didn't feel hollow.

I felt… free.

I closed the door behind him and leaned my head against it, exhaling.

Some endings don't come with pain.

Some just come with peace.

I climbed the stairs slowly.

Each step felt lighter.

Not because everything was fixed, but because something heavy had finally been set down.

The hallway was quiet. A crack of warm light spilled from my bedroom door—left open just enough.
