Chapter 5 - Stalker

Stepping outside the motel after what he had just done, now feeling all of the guilt hit him all at once he sits on the curb in front of the car he stole thinking about his life decisions and contemplating on ending it there. Beating himself up he allows his inside thoughts to anger him some more he can't undo what he's done and bring those three innocent people back to life. He sits feeling sorry for himself with his head in his hands.

A voice from a young woman calmly asks "are you okay?" He ignores her hoping she will move along. She bends down and nudges him as he gets frustrated with himself and about to burst his bubble he looks up at a beautiful short curly haired brunette wearing a white buttoned dress, and wedges and holding the handbag she had balancing in the middle of her arm. She waits for him to stand up and asks " sir, are you okay? Would you like me to call someone to come pick you up?" The helpful miss has no idea what she's about to get herself into helping Michael. He shakes his head staring at her. Checking her phone for the time she offers to buy him a quick coffee "I'm in a little hurry but I rather get you sorted first, I'll buy you a cake too if you're hungry" she offers. He continues to stay quiet and only responds with a nod or shake of his head. Standing in she orders him to take a seat while she orders them food and drinks. He recognizes her. Back in his thoughts again he remembers this woman is the one he tooted at before he met Samantha the young waitress he would have had a nice time with if he didn't murder her. He shakes his head trying to stop himself from thinking about what he could do to this woman who's kindly helped him.

Wanting to get to know this woman he had his eyes set on once before he tries to ignore the voice in his head. She sits down as they both now wait for their coffee and cakes to arrive. "Won't be long now" she says making small talk.

Michael introduces himself to her offering his hand to shake hers. She looks at his filthy hand but doesn't want to be rude she shakes it and she says "Jessica" smiling she asks "so Michael, I see a ring on that finger where is the lucky lady?" He grins as his facial expression changes to sad "she died" embarrassed to ask without knowing she apologizes immensely. He tells her "it was her time" they talk some more to forget she asked about Maggie and he lied about her death. Jessica goes to the ladies' room seconds before their drinks and cake arrive. He grins as the more he tells this nieve woman the more she falls into his web of lies.

In the toilets, Jessica applies more red lipstick, blusher, and mascara she checks her purse to see how much she has before leaving to return to their table.

He watches her walk back and he pulls out her seat. Thanking him she asks "do you drive? She laughs awkwardly "sorry what a weird question to just jump in on, I know you were on the curb near cars but I never thought to ask if any of them were yours" she finally stops asking as Michael looks away from her with a mouthful of cake "you know, I don't remember the color of it. I only just got it about a week ago and that's why I'm out of pocket" she smiles and says "yes! Haha, I have done that plenty of times before". He looks at her and with not saying anything in return he sips his coffee and she drinks hers.

Before long it was time for Jessica to head to work. Not wanting to sound rude she talks about her job and what she does. Jessica works in an office making important phone calls. But today she is attending an important meeting to help customers feel more supported. Michael tries to relate although he has not worked for years himself due to retirement he chose a quiet life and brought up pigs on the property he has owned for 4 decades.

With little interest on her face, Michael starts telling himself he's going to have to work a little harder to win her over. She has high standards and is just friendly.

Jessica apologizes for heading out so soon after their little chat. She drops him back off at the motel and watches him get in his car.

Reversing backward she starts to recognize the car from a few days prior. Like a mini flashback, she remembers a little red car beeping at her as it sped away. The creepy old man didn't stop staring at her she puts the two together and realizes that she has just had coffee with the same man. Feeling sorry for him she thinks about offering another trip to the coffee shop for a catch-up and chat.

She gets to work and has an uncomfortable feeling the whole time she sits in the meeting. Not sure how to tell anyone what had happened she starts seeing Michael everywhere she goes. Believing it's just her imagination she shakes it off and mumbles.

A colleague sitting across from Jessica asks "are you okay?" Jessica jumps as she sinks into her long line of deep thoughts. "Erm.. yeah I guess " she mutters. As Michael reappears again in the corridor as she leaves the meeting he appears in the car park but she ignores it and tells herself she is just a little dehydrated and she needs a lie-down.

At home, she notices a little red car parked at the top of the road that enters her. By passing slowly she sees no driver and continues towards her garage which automatically opens as she enters the driveway.

Carrying on with her evening after a long meeting Jessica prepares a meal for one. While it cooks in the microwave she gets herself comfy and relaxed while there are five minutes to spare. As the microwave pings and her tea is finally ready to eat she gets a gut feeling she is being watched but couldn't shake the feeling no matter how much she had tried.

Michael hid beneath the kitchen window that had a perfect view of where Jessica sat eating her tea alone in the late evening. Only wanting to see her that little bit longer he attempts to open the window and pulls forcing it but it does not open. His temptation to break in through a kitchen window backfired. He moves around the back of the house to the front keeping his head down so he doesn't get caught.
