Chapter 3 - A Stranger to his Own World

Finally, Remiel saw the sky.

Dark grey, wide, and infinite.

It was a beautiful full moon, but there wasn't a single star in sight.

The night felt serene and vast.

And Remiel St. Clair was very much alone in that.

A sudden cool breeze slapped against his bare skin, making him shiver from the cold and waking him up from his daze.

'I should cover myself up before heading out.' Remiel thought, as he looked around, searching for some clothes, but all he saw was an extensive, beautifully maintained garden with a vast variety of flowers ever-present in there.

At a distance, he could see colorful lights present everywhere outside the boundary of this location.

Lights meant that there were humans still outside, and he couldn't possibly go out butt naked like this.

His pride as a royal and his decency as a human being didn't allow him to.

There were some smaller guard posts around, but they had lights on. He couldn't risk it.

Left with no other choice, he moved back inside the building, and he jumped over the first desk he saw, called 'reception'.

Right behind the desk was a door, and hanging up on the door were two curtains.

He snatched them towards him and draped his body with the rather heavy curtains.

He layered the second curtain on top as well, just to be safe, and then he got out once again.

Sneaking behind the bushes on the pathway, Remiel evaded every guard post and unnatural light in the vicinity before finally reaching the main gate.

It was a huge iron gate with black and gold paint and intricately created designs with iron bars.

'This cannot be a coincidence.' He noticed that the security guard at the main gate was sleeping, and the side gate was also open.

He felt like there was something very deep brewing that he didn't know, and it was likely connected to his resurrection.

But having neither time nor any lead, he decided to first escape the area and then think about what he would do.

He casually walked out of the side gate, and that's when he noticed.

Tall buildings, maybe hundreds of meters tall were stood erected in front of him, all decorated and lit with weird 'lamps' of all kinds of colors.

Colors he never even knew existed were shining bright in front of him, and it made the surroundings look more like daytime.

Crowds moved along the walkways, some stared into small glowing metal boxes showing moving images while some put them right next to their ears.

'It's the same as those bigger ones inside, but these have proper moving pictures.' Remiel couldn't help but be amazed by this.

He even wondered if he was on the same earth anymore.

Suddenly, from the corner of his eyes, he noticed a huge moving creature built entirely of metal was approaching him at a rapid speed.

'A spirit beast?' Knowing that he was as weak as a normal human now, his first instinct was to hide somewhere, but he noticed something odd.

The people around him didn't care.

Still, just to be sure, he hid behind the side gate he had just come out of, and watched as the metallic beast just passed by.

And just for a split second, he noticed there were people inside as well.

'A carriage? But there was nobody to pull it.' He felt his head spin as everything felt so alien to him.

After a few more seconds, he finally made some conclusions, but he needed some more information to be completely sure.

He looked down, noticing his attire was quite different compared to others, but he had no other choice.

He had to get more information about his situation.

Remiel approached the nearest person on the sidewalk and asked, "Excuse me!"

The teenager in front removed his headphones and looked towards the source of the sound, only to notice a guy with curtains covering his entire body.

'Is this dude cosplaying?' For some reason, it felt like the guy was looking down on him without even trying.

"Yes?" The guy replied.

'I don't know his language, but I can somehow speak and understand it.' Remiel immediately caught this little fact about the situation.

"Can you tell me what city we are in?" Remiel asked flatly.

The guy looked at him like he was some kind of weirdo, but he replied regardless, "Astreon."

'As expected,' Remiel nodded at him and asked further, "And the date?"

"July 3, 1513," The guy answered, waiting for a response, but he noticed that the man in front was stunned.

Seeing there was no response from the man, he just put the headphones back on and left.

'1513?' Remiel's pupils shook, as he couldn't believe his ears. He wanted to believe that the boy just lied to him, but looking around and seeing all the bizarre things around him, it made sense.

The level of technology had clearly gone up, resulting in those 'lamps' without fire, or those tall buildings, or those automatic carriages, and so on.

He had died back in the year 603.

It's been over 900 years since?

Remiel's head spun as he staggered, moving forward with his wobbly feet.

Everything around him felt like a blur, as his mind raced to make any sense out of the situation.

But no matter how hard he tried, nothing made sense.

His mind was already clouded from the tiredness and the hunger he was feeling.

His body had no energy to feed his brain, and all this information dump only made him feel worse.

Not too long after, he reached an 'open garden' where he noticed there were a few people sleeping on the side.

'I should think about this stuff later when I'm done with everything.' Pushing aside all his thoughts, he approached the sleeping man and gently shook his legs.

"Can I sleep here as well?" He knew that after so many years, many things were bound to change, and it was quite obvious that he was now a man with no real possessions.

He couldn't even reveal his identity, as it might cause some trouble.

The haggard man with an unkempt appearance uncovered the blanket from his face and shouted in a drunk tone, "Just sleep wherever you want, you fucking clown."

Remiel wasn't offended by this, since he could understand the reason behind this irritated tone.

Remiel may be a proud and aloof man, but he was a man with reason.

He just nodded and thanked him, as he walked a few more steps, and just fell down on the soft grass.

It felt cold and was mildly comforting on contact, making his body feel much better.

Even though he just woke up from his eternal sleep, his body felt super tired.

And not too long after, his eyelids could no longer stay open as the once strongest warrior and a royal fell asleep with the homeless on the roads.
