"Have you gone deaf or mute?" Declan barked, and I flinched. He was closing in on me now, and I felt cornered.
I took a few fearful steps backwards, and he raised his eyebrow in feigned surprise. The adjoining door he had emerged from a few minutes ago pulled open just then, and two girls stepped out from the room. Declan turned towards them, and I followed his movement with my eyes.
One of the girls adjusted her rumpled dress as they stepped out of the room. Both of their eyes were downcast but I saw the sadness their eyes held. Declan looked away from them, and faced me. His lips were curled in a smirk, and I knew somehow that the smirk was not directed at me.
"I got lost while looking for the kitchen." I said once our eyes met. The smirk had disappeared from his face, and was replaced with that burning anger that was there before the door was pulled open.
"Is that so?" He asked, and I nodded, hoping for the best.
