Chapter 9 - Character Settings Are a Wonderful Thing

Is it delicious?Auron thought it should be pretty average, since he really didn't have any barbecue skills and rarely grilled food.

The reason it tasted good, one was because the atmosphere was nice and enhanced the senses.

Shisui was usually alone at home and rarely ate with so many people, especially outdoors.

Obito usually just ate with his grandmother, and Might Guy with his father.

On top of that, they hadn't really eaten grilled fish like this before, so the novelty made the otherwise ordinary grilled fish seem delicious.

After eating and resting for an hour, Auron led the three to resume training.

"Actually, this jutsu isn't that hard," Obito looked at the round, chubby fire dragon he had released with a sense of achievement. This was going way smoother than when he practiced the Great Fireball Technique.

Coincidentally, Shisui was also practicing the Fire Dragon Flame Bullet and spat out a fierce, snarling fire dragon full of sharp teeth.

Seeing Shisui's intimidating fire dragon, Obito silently maneuvered his cute little fire dragon behind him to hide.

Just as Might Guy was wiping sweat off after countless whirlwind kicks and getting ready to rest, he happened to see this scene.

Perhaps due to their shared morning ordeal, Might Guy went over and comforted him, "It's fine, a small fire dragon is very cute. One day it'll be as strong as Teacher Auron's."

Although meant as comfort, for some reason, Obito felt a strange sense of grievance, which made him very uncomfortable.

That frustration instantly reignited Obito's energy, and he began training the Fire Dragon Flame Bullet Technique again.

Seeing Obito so fired up, Might Guy also refused to fall behind. After a short break, he resumed training.

"These two are surprisingly in sync," Auron, who had been watching from the side, couldn't help but chuckle. He found Obito and Might Guy's chemistry quite something.

They trained until dinner, and after that Auron sent them home, telling them to return the next day.

On Sunday, after another day of training, Auron received a 50 chakra bonus from teaching.

And so, a new week began...

In the morning, Iwashi (Steel) quickly got up, washed, ate breakfast, and rushed to school.

"You woke up early today. Why the hurry?" his mother asked in confusion.

"Of course to get to school early and study," Iwashi replied without turning his head.

It was a lie to appease his mom. Iwashi didn't hate school, but he didn't love it either—not all teachers were as interesting and engaging as Auron.

The real reason he was so eager to get to school was because he desperately wanted to know if his buddy Kamizuki Izumo had taken the first step in his romantic pursuit.

He had given Izumo advice on Thursday, but on Friday Izumo said he still hadn't done anything and needed more time to build up courage.

Iwashi figured two full weekend days should have been enough to get it done.

When Iwashi arrived, there weren't many students in the classroom yet, and Izumo hadn't shown up.

But Izumo didn't keep him waiting long. About 7–8 minutes later, Iwashi saw him walk in, looking gloomy.

"Izumo, didn't sleep well last night?" Iwashi asked.

Izumo shook his head.

"Did you give her the flowers this weekend?" Iwashi asked eagerly.

"Sigh, don't even bring it up." Hearing the question, Izumo looked even more depressed.

"She wasn't looking at our flowerbed because she likes flowers... She's allergic to pollen and was just worried it'd get blown over."

Iwashi went silent for a moment after hearing that. Then he asked, "So, did you give her the flowers?"

Izumo didn't reply, but his silence and gloomy expression were answer enough.

Iwashi patted his shoulder and comforted him:

"It's okay. I remember one of the girls who hangs out with Miharu is pretty cute. Want to meet up with her sometime?"

"That sounds great, Iron Bro!" Izumo perked up instantly.

"And over the weekend I thought of another brilliant trick to help you deal with your cousin."

"That's amazing! Tell me what it is—"

"Class is starting."

Auron's voice reached them just in time, and the two realized class had begun. They'd been so caught up in their conversation they didn't even notice the bell.

They quickly sat up straight and started paying attention. After two days without Auron's class, they had missed it.

Auron didn't disappoint. His class was light and enjoyable, and before they knew it, they had learned a lot.

[Reward Obtained: Water Style – Water Severing Wave]

Seeing the reward, Auron's eyes lit up. This jutsu wasn't simple.

Developed by the Second Hokage, it could shoot out a high-pressure stream of water in a straight line. Its power was immense—it could even cut through the roots of the God Tree.

Feeling great about this reward, another good thing immediately followed.

"Auron-sensei, I remember you don't have class this afternoon. Could you help cover for me? I have a Ninjutsu class with Class 4-2."

In the office, Ikegaya Isamu approached Auron with a hopeful request.

"No problem. Are you not feeling well, Ikegaya-sensei?" Auron asked, keeping up appearances with a concerned face despite being happy to get another reward.

"No, I'm fine. Thank you for your concern, Habu-sensei." Ikegaya smiled and explained, "It's just... I'm meeting up with someone I matched with for a date this afternoon."

"Why not schedule it for a time when you don't have classes?" Ueda Aya interjected sarcastically.

"I wanted to, but she said today's her only free afternoon," Ikegaya replied, clearly a bit embarrassed to trouble Auron.

Aya gave up on commenting further. She didn't think anything would come of this match—if the woman really liked Ikegaya, she wouldn't make him burden colleagues.

"Well, good luck, Ikegaya-sensei," Auron said with a smile—more tasks meant more rewards.

"Thank you so much, Habu-sensei! If it works out, I'll treat you to the most expensive restaurant in Konoha!" Ikegaya said as he rushed off to change and prep.

"I told you, didn't I?" Ueda Aya sighed. "If you keep this up, people will always ask you to substitute."

"Helping others is a joy. Colleagues should support one another," Auron replied earnestly.

"You're too nice. You'll get taken advantage of," she murmured.

Auron just smiled and began practicing calligraphy.

Watching his serious expression as he wrote, Ueda Aya couldn't help but feel how big the gap was between people. If Ikegaya were even a quarter as capable as Auron, he wouldn't still be single.

When it was about time, Auron put away his calligraphy and headed to Class 4-2.

Just as he arrived, the bell rang.

"Teacher Ikegaya had something come up. I'll be covering this afternoon's Ninjutsu class," Auron announced.

He scanned the room—everyone was present except Obito.

Three minutes into class, Obito came rushing in. Seeing Auron at the podium, he froze.

He ran too fast—was he hallucinating? Why was Auron-sensei teaching his class? For a second, he even thought he entered the wrong room, but the familiar classmates confirmed it.

"I didn't mean to be late, Auron-sensei, I ran into—"

"An old lady and stopped to help her, wasting some time," someone finished for him, sparking laughter.

"I'm serious! If I'd known Auron-sensei was teaching, I'd have come 30 minutes early!" Obito insisted.

He didn't want Auron to think he wasn't studying hard and stop teaching him.

"Take your seat," Auron nodded, accepting the excuse, then added,"But you can't be late for Ikegaya-sensei's class either."

Ninjutsu class at the academy starts from first grade, but only teaches three jutsu: Transformation, Clone, and Substitution.

It might seem like a waste to spend years on just three techniques, but it's actually reasonable—talents like Shisui are rare.

For many whose ceiling is just chunin, mastering these three is already tough enough, especially alongside other subjects.

Despite taking this class countless times, Auron's version still amazed them.

"So that's why my clones never looked like the real me!" one student exclaimed.

"I hope Teacher Ikegaya has more stuff going on so we can have more of Auron-sensei's classes!" another joked—but meant it.

The others chimed in agreement.

Auron made no comment, but quietly appreciated how useful the system's skills were.

[Reward Obtained: Lightning Style – Lightning Clone]

Knowledge of Lightning Chakra nature transformation and the Lightning Clone technique instantly filled Auron's mind.

It wasn't an especially powerful jutsu, but unlocking another chakra nature made him quite happy—especially after already scoring a reward earlier that day.

For the next half month, Auron kept up this rhythm. If no one asked for substitution, he stayed in the office studying ninjutsu theory. If someone did ask, he accepted gladly. At home, he trained Obito and Shisui while practicing his chakra control.

Perhaps because he taught so well, students who'd taken his classes kept asking to attend again. Add to that his good reputation among teachers, and Auron quickly became a star instructor at the academy.

To students, he was the perfect teacher: interesting lectures, gentle personality, and handsome looks.

To his colleagues, he was a sincere, kind, and reliable coworker.
