Chapter 10 - Definitely in Love. Probably.

Sky Ren's POV

---

Okay.

So I think he was jealous.

Like—actually jealous.

Kai Ashford, Mr. Too-Cool-for-the-Human-Experience, glared at Ryan like he was two seconds from turning into a dragon and setting him on fire. And for what? For waving at me?

I am not okay.

I may have spent the last forty minutes of class doodling hearts with his name inside them on the side of my notes. Not even sorry. He looked so grumpy. And tense. And like he was about to tackle Ryan into the stratosphere. My name was written all over that fury.

AND he didn't even deny it when I asked what was wrong. He just said, "Nothing," in that deep, broody, mafia-underboss voice of his. UGH.

Obviously, that meant:

"I am totally in love with you, Sky, but I am too emotionally constipated to say it out loud."

I'm practically fluent in Kai Ashford at this point.

I'm in her dorm room now, pacing.

More like bouncing.

Actually spinning.

"Ava!" I yell.

My best friend pokes her head out from the bathroom, toothbrush in mouth. "What now?"

"He was jealous."

She freezes. "Kai?"

"Yes. Yes! Like glare-of-doom jealous. Like 'this is my emotional support chaos demon, back off' jealous."

She spits out toothpaste. "You're hallucinating."

"No, I'm not! He literally growled when Ryan waved at me."

"That's his normal resting expression."

"I know the difference!" I flop onto the bed dramatically, hair fanning out across her pillows like a shampoo commercial. "Ava . This is big. This is marriage-level big."

"Oh my god."

"No, listen. I'm thinking destination wedding. Maybe Greece? He seems like the brooding-by-the-sea type."

"You don't even know his middle name."

"I will. Eventually. After our first child. Which I've decided should be named Raiden if it's a boy. Or maybe something fierce and sweet like Liana for a girl. You can be the godmother."

"You need therapy."

I gasp. "You mean couple's therapy? Already? Do you think we'd need that? He seems like the type who'd refuse to go until we have a dramatic fight in a thunderstorm."

Ava throws a pillow at me.

I squeal and hug it. "We're already fighting over him! This is so romantic."

She groans and disappears back into the bathroom.

I stare at the ceiling, lips stretched in a giddy smile.

I can't believe this. Kai Ashford. Jealous. Of Ryan.

HE CARES.

He cares.

He cares.

I'm going to wear my sparkliest hairclip tomorrow.

And heels. And lip gloss.

And maybe trip in front of him again, just to see if he catches me.

Spoiler: he always does.
