Chapter 49 - Finding Peace in the Storm

Finding Peace in the Storm

Sunlight spilled through the wide windows of the Starfire main hall, catching the soft hues of amber and gold in the tapestries. Amber moved through the room with a gentle steadiness, her hand resting lightly on her stomach. She could feel the twins shifting, and it brought a calmness she had not known in years.

Ala stirred alongside her, whispering happiness, a soft warmth flowing through Amber's mind.

"We are connected. We will see our children grow. He will be by our side forever."

Adonis and Elbon approached quietly, although they both knew she had sensed them both long ago, it was respect, and it was a dash of awe, seeing their Alpha in a moment of unabashed bliss and calm. It calmed them and allowed peace to flow through the wolves they were inside. They had already sensed the shift in Amber's mood; the tension that usually clung to her like a shadow had lifted.

Without looking up she spoke. Joy in her voice but her words were all business. "And how are the borderlands? Did you encounter any trouble?" she looked up, her eyes fierce and her canines elongated. "Speak quickly and explain why I smell blood on both of you and I was not told of any skirmishes while you were out. You seem to forget you have two Alphas to report to."

The men paused and kneeled almost in one move and in unison.

"It was actually my idea to wait until we returned to report anything. Elbon wanted to report immediately."

Elbon simply shook his head, but he did not address the comment, he merely answered her question. "On the way back we came to a small village that had been attacked by a group of Omegas. We took care of them, looked for missing villagers and then returned here immediately. We also need to report that Silver Moon werewolves were seen in the swamps, but we did not engage."

Amber tilted her head as her face relaxed and returned to its exquisite human form. Her light blue hair shifted around her face as she sat on her throne. It was a massive thing and she set with in it comfortably. It seemed to reshape and conform to her.

She sat looking at both of them for a long moment,

She sighed. "It makes sense doesn't it? Dark Howl is much too organized. They have even begun trading with out merchants and reports are saying that travel into their territory is much better, except where those two brothers are of course."

Adonis looked at her with shock on her face. Elbon had no reaction but he spoke first.

"Do you mean you believe Silver Moon and Dark Howl have something to do with each other?"

Her eyes had gone unfocused as she looked at a distant wall. On it hung the picture of her parents.

"I mean Marco Silversmith must be alive, how else can the Silver Moon Pack even have one werewolf and how else could a Pack that suddenly dissolved become prosperous and stable?"

Adonis sat in his seat on her side of the dais while Elbon took a seat below the two so that he stayed on the same side of the room.

"Alpha, no disrespect, but there is still the sister Jess. She is an Ormicron and her mate is a Beta. She could have…"

Amber shook her head and looked to her Beta. He stopped speaking almost instantly.

"They could not have pulled this off and stayed under the radar like this. We have heard absolutely nothing." She smiled, rose, and stretched languidly. "Good for him. Marco was too strong a werewolf to be destroyed like that."

She smiled brightly. "I should wait for Stefan to return but we are all family. Ala has told me I am having twins and the head Theta has verified it today."

Adonis and Elbon quickly looked to each other. Then turned broad smiles to her.

"Congratulations Alpha." They spoke in unison.

The three went separate ways. Amber to her office, Adonis to his, and Elbon to his in the second Alpha's wing.

Adonis and Elbon agreed to meet to train a new unit of troops later that day.

Elbon moved through the halls with confidence. He was a Gamma and most did not know what that meant, sometimes he did not remember, it was such an integral part of him.

But Gammas were probably the best type of werewolf for espionnage. Their physics, their natures were made for it.

He sat at his desk and wrote several reports. In the middle of one he looked to a dark corner.

He picked up a report with a glowing silver seal. "Take this to our Alpha immediately."

A shadow pulled from the corner like a thick gel from a slick surface.

"Yes Beta." The man took the note and disappeared back into the shadow. Elbon shook his head. He thought nothing could shake him and then he met Marco Silversmith and the Blood Trace Pack.

He returned to his reports as if nothing had happened.

Amber sat at her desk, a pile of completed reports waiting to go out to the pack. He missed him. She could sense him through the link and for the first time in along time it wasn't murky or convoluted.

Ala whispered across her soul: 'Write to him. Tell him of the babies, tell him of Marco Silversmith. He is your partner in this, you are Alpha together.'

She smiled and nodded. She moved to pick up a pin and she felt the now familiar stirring in her abdomen and smiled.

Suddenly she felt like and idiot. She squared her shoulders, gripped her pen aggressively and began to plan her letter to him. As she began to write she could not help but smile. She had to admit her emotions had been crazy, to say the least.

But today…

… today she found peace.
