Jiang Chen didn't consider himself a scumbag; in fact, he hadn't even thought about dating yet.
"Fine, why don't you give it a try and see if you have the guts?" Xiao Luoxue shot Jiang Chen a provocative look, as if daring him to see if he could really handle her.
Compared to Xiao Luoxue, Ling Wanqiu wasn't quite as bold and would never say something like that.
"You're not chickening out, are you?"
"Are you picking a fight with me?" Jiang Chen felt a bit annoyed.
"That's right, I'm provoking you," Xiao Luoxue said with a bright, brilliant smile, radiant as a flower.
"Fine, I give up, okay?" Jiang Chen raised his hands in surrender.
Seeing him yield, a flash of disappointment crossed Xiao Luoxue's eyes. Surrender wasn't exactly what she wanted from him. However, would she have actually backed down if Jiang Chen had really made a move? Even she wasn't sure.
"Phew...!" Ling Wanqiu let out a soft sigh of relief. She had genuinely been worried that Jiang Chen would fall for the provocation.
"You know the Imperial Capital best. Where should we go?" Jiang Chen shifted the subject, and both he and Ling Wanqiu looked at Xiao Luoxue.
"Actually, don't assume I'm an expert just because I'm from here. I'm a total shut-in and rarely go out," Xiao Luoxue said with a shrug. "How about we check out a Pokémon Nursery?"
A Pokémon Nursery was essentially a place where Pokémon Eggs were sold.
"Let's go take a look, then."
Jiang Chen had rarely visited such places. Mostly because if he wanted a Pokémon Egg, he didn't usually need to go out and buy one himself.
"I heard a new batch of Pokémon Eggs just arrived. If our luck holds, we might find one with amazing talent."
Xiao Luoxue led Jiang Chen and Ling Wanqiu directly to the largest Pokémon Nursery in the Imperial Capital. Calling it a "nursery" was an understatement; the place was larger than a shopping mall.
"Do they sell Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Eggs here?" Ling Wanqiu asked.
She hadn't spent much time in places like this either. Usually, if she wanted a particular Pokémon, she just had to tell her father, and he would arrange it for her. Xiao Luoxue hadn't been here many times, either.
"It depends on luck. If you're lucky, you can find a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg, but they are incredibly expensive."
The price for a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg here was at least fifty million League Coins. Without that kind of money, you couldn't even dream of it. On the black market, the price was even steeper, often requiring double that amount just to secure one.
Even so, demand far outstripped supply. It was a classic "price without a market" scenario. Once, at an auction, a Salamence Pokémon Egg had fetched a staggering price of five hundred million League Coins.
"If we run into a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg, it's worth buying no matter the price. It's a guaranteed profit."
Obtaining a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg was never a losing deal. Essentially, any Pseudo-legendary, if raised well, could grow to the Elite Four level.
"Well, let's see how our luck holds up today." Ling Wanqiu's eyes sparkled with anticipation. Maybe they really would get lucky enough to find one.
"Only if our luck is off the charts," Jiang Chen replied. He didn't think they'd be that fortunate.
Upon entering the Pokémon Nursery, they were greeted by row after row of Pokémon Eggs. There were quite a few customers browsing as well.
"Welcome! How can I help you today?"
The sales clerk's eyes lit up as she saw the trio enter. She didn't recognize them, but their clothes made it clear they weren't ordinary people. Furthermore, Jiang Chen was accompanied by a Shiny Gardevoir.
Such a rarity wasn't something commoners could obtain, signaling that these were customers with the means to spend.
"Do you have any Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Eggs?" Ling Wanqiu asked.
"Yes, please follow me."
The clerk nodded immediately. Any customer asking for a Pseudo-legendary was definitely wealthy.
"There really is one?" Ling Wanqiu was pleasantly surprised.
Jiang Chen smiled. "It seems our luck is pretty good after all." Finding a Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg really was a matter of chance.
"Which Pseudo-legendary is it?" Xiao Luoxue asked the clerk.
"It's a Goomy Pokémon Egg."
"Oh... a Goomy."
Ling Wanqiu's excitement began to fade. Why did it have to be a Goomy?
Goomy evolved into Sliggoo, and then into Goodra. Among the Pseudo-legendaries, she could accept most, but Goodra was a bit much especially after seeing one recently. The sight of it affectionately hugging its trainer was more than she could stand.
"Aren't Dragon-type Pokémon your favorite? This is a rare opportunity for a Goomy. I suggest you take it," Xiao Luoxue teased with a grin.
Ling Wanqiu shot her a look, knowing full well Xiao Luoxue was being mischievous. "I've lost interest in this Pseudo-legendary Pokémon Egg."
"Me too," Xiao Luoxue added immediately.
They were interested in Pseudo-legendaries in general, but a Goomy was a different story. Nobody wanted to be covered in slime.
"How much for the Goomy Egg?" Jiang Chen asked.
"It is fifty-seven million League Coins," the clerk answered promptly.
"Charge it to my card." Jiang Chen handed over his card.
"Are you really planning to buy that Goomy Egg?" Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue looked at him in confusion. As far as they knew, Jiang Chen wasn't particularly interested in Goodra either. Why buy it?
"I'll buy it to give to my dad."
Jiang Chen didn't intend to keep it. His father had been a Dragon Elite Four and was now a Dragon Champion. Adding another Dragon-type Pokémon to his team was something he would surely appreciate. Goodra was a Pseudo-legendary, after all, and its combat strength was nothing to scoff at.
Jiang Chen's nonchalant way of paying for the expensive egg made the clerk's heart flutter. If she were a few years younger, she would have definitely pursued this handsome young man.
Well, honestly, after seeing Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue, she didn't dare overrate herself. She was a minor beauty at best among average people,
but she couldn't compare to those two girls. Though young, few could rival their level of beauty.
"See if there are any other eggs you like. It's on me today. Don't miss out." Holding the Goomy Egg, Jiang Chen turned back to the two girls.
"You said it yourself. I won't be holding back, then." Xiao Luoxue's eyes twinkled. It wasn't often she got a chance to spend a tycoon's money; she certainly wasn't going to pass it up.
"I'd be more worried if you were polite. After all, if there's one thing I have plenty of, it's money."
Jiang Chen really did have the right to say that. The Jiang family's business was booming. His mother's net worth was nearly a trillion, and the pocket money she gave him usually added up to billions. He could buy every single egg in this Pokémon Nursery and still have plenty to spare.
"Come on, let's make him bleed a little today." Xiao Luoxue pulled Ling Wanqiu along to pick out eggs.
Jiang Chen scanned the eggs on the shelves, constantly using his Probe Eye to check their potential. If he found one that caught his eye, he wouldn't mind buying it.
"Do you have any Froakie Pokémon Eggs among your starters?" After a lap around the store, Jiang Chen asked the clerk.
In truth, the eggs displayed on the shelves weren't that precious. The truly valuable ones weren't left out in the open. For instance, the Goodra Egg he had just bought had only been brought out by the manager after the clerk notified him.
"I'm sorry, we don't have any Froakie Eggs, but we do have eggs for other Water-type Starter Pokémon." The clerk following Jiang Chen apologized.
Jiang Chen shook his head. He wanted a Greninja; he wasn't particularly interested in other Water-types for now.
After browsing for over half an hour, Jiang Chen walked over to Ling Wanqiu and Xiao Luoxue. "Did you two find anything you liked?"
"Nothing caught my eye."
Ling Wanqiu shook her head. Her favorites were Dragon-type Pokémon, and there weren't many of those eggs here. Dragon-types were simply too popular. Even with the emergence of the Fairy-type as their "natural enemy," Dragon-types remained as sought-after as ever.
Hearing that Ling Wanqiu hadn't found anything, Jiang Chen looked at Xiao Luoxue. She was different from Ling Wanqiu; while Wanqiu prioritized Dragon-types, Luoxue didn't care much about the specific type.
"I've got my eye on this one."
Xiao Luoxue took a Pokémon Egg off a shelf.
