Chapter 9 - Not the only one

stared at Ava, trying to figure out if she was messing with me.

But her face was serious. No smirk. No sarcasm. Just… truth.

"I've always known stuff before it happened," she said, still leaning against the window frame. "Little things. Like when someone's going to call me, or when I should skip class because something bad's about to go down."

She looked at me then. "But what you did? That was different."

"What do you mean?" I asked carefully.

"You see it," she said. "Like a movie. Don't you?"

I didn't answer right away.

She took that as confirmation.

"I just get feelings," she said. "Or flashes. But you? You look like you're watching the future like it's already happening."

I swallowed hard. "How come I never noticed it with you before?"

She gave me a tired smile. "Because I hide it. Just like you do."

That hit harder than I expected.

I'd spent years thinking I was the only one. That this thing inside me was some kind of weird mutation, a glitch in my brain.

But now there were two people.

Three, if I counted myself.

And maybe more?

I glanced at Ava again. "Have you ever told anyone else?"

She shook her head fast. "No way. You think people would understand? They'd either think I was crazy or try to use me."

I nodded slowly.

Yeah. I knew that feeling.

"Then why are you telling me now?" I asked.

She hesitated. Then said, "Because yesterday—you saw me before I even knew what was going to happen."

Her voice dropped. "And today? You showed up right after I got another warning."

I frowned. "Warning about what?"

She didn't answer right away.

Instead, she looked over her shoulder like someone might be listening.

Then, barely above a whisper, she said:

"That something's coming."
