Chapter 7 - Day, You're Not Listening and That's Illegal

Sky's POV

I should've been writing lyrics. Or maybe warming up. Or literally doing anything productive.

But no.

Instead, I was kneeling on the living room carpet, dramatically whispering like I was plotting a heist. "Day. Dayyyyy. Hey. Hey, bestie. Love of my life. Brother I never asked for."

No response.

He sat cross-legged on the couch, tapping a beat out on the armrest with his fingers like the actual drummer he was, headphones in, completely ignoring me. Which was extra rude because I knew he could sense me being annoying. He always could.

"DAY CHEN," I cried, louder this time, flopping flat on my stomach like a fallen soldier.

Night, lounging across from us with her legs tossed over the arm of a beanbag, glanced up from her phone. "He's in Drummer Mode. You have no power here."

"That's not true," I groaned dramatically. "I have all the power. My chaos is unmatched."

She raised an eyebrow. "You cried over a bent straw this morning."

"Because the boba spilled! That was a tragedy. You're all heartless."

Rain was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, scrolling on his phone like he was too cool for this world. Probably reading the news or stalking our chart numbers like a responsible, emotionally unavailable band leader.

I huffed at him. "You're grumpy today."

He didn't look up. "You're loud every day."

"Ouch." I pressed a hand to my chest. "You wound me."

Silence.

I turned back to Day and dramatically crawled toward him. "You're my soulmate and you're IGNORING ME."

He sighed and tugged out one earbud. "Sky. What."

"I had a dream I was forced to sing jazz on live TV and I did scatting for seven minutes straight. And I think I liked it."

Deadpan: "...What do you want me to say?"

"Tell me it doesn't mean I'm secretly a jazz singer."

"You're not."

"But what if I am? What if I'm the jazz revolution this world needs?"

Night groaned. "You can't even clap on beat."

"EXCUSE ME," I said, launching a pillow at her. She caught it mid-air like a ninja and tossed it right back. It smacked me in the face. I dramatically fell over again.

Rain, without looking up, muttered, "This is why we don't get invited to normal people things."

I pouted at him from the floor. "Rain. Be nice."

He looked up briefly. Our eyes met. My heart did a triple somersault, then tripped on its landing.

And then he looked away again.

I grinned. "He loves me."

Day groaned, putting his earbud back in. "You're delusional."

Night rolled her eyes. "You're obsessed."

Rain stood suddenly. "I'm going to CVS."

I popped up immediately. "Wait—do you need a buddy? I'll come!"

"No."

The door slammed behind him.

I turned to the others, grinning like I'd just won the lottery.

"He's totally bringing me candy."

Day: "He's bringing himself peace."

Me: "Same thing."

Night chucked another pillow at me. "I'm moving in with my cat."

"You don't have a cat."

"I will if it means escaping you."

I giggled, flopping across the couch like I owned the place. "You all love me."

Silence.

Then, grudgingly, Day said, "Unfortunately."

I beamed. "Aww, family bonding moment."

Night and Day shared a look like they were on the verge of staging a mutiny.

I didn't care.

Rain would be back soon. Probably with candy. Probably fuming. Probably thinking about how annoyingly much he liked me.

He just didn't know it yet.
