Chapter 12 - Monsters Don't Scare Me—But Her Tears Do

Sebastian's POV

It's 2:37 a.m.

The manor is quiet. Too quiet.

Until it isn't.

Click.

My bedroom door creaks open with a slow, guilty drag, followed by a soft sniffle and—

"Seb...?"

I don't move. Not immediately. I hear the shuffling. The tangled footsteps of someone who's either drunk, half-asleep, or—well, Sky.

She trips over the edge of the carpet. Again.

"Ow," she mutters, sniffling louder now.

I sit up, already exhaling. "What did Kai let you watch this time?"

She doesn't answer. Just climbs straight into the bed and flops across my chest like she belongs there. Her hair spreads everywhere—on my face, in my mouth, across the pillows like a silk explosion.

"There was a demon," she mumbles tearfully, "and it dragged people out of their beds, and the little girl in the movie looked exactly like me when I was seven, and now I'm convinced my closet wants to kill me."

I blink.

Then sigh.

"You're grounded. Kai too."

She sniffles harder and curls up, knees to chest, her icy toes burrowing under my thigh.

"I can't sleep," she whispers, voice tiny. "I—I keep hearing things, and your room smells like leather and home, and I don't wanna die because Kai thought it would be funny to show me The Possession."

I pull the blanket over her trembling shoulders.

"You're not dying. Your closet's scared of me."

She lets out a wet laugh and nuzzles into my side, cheek pressed to my bare arm.

"I'll sleep here, okay?"

"You already are."

"Promise you won't leave?"

I kiss her forehead. "Promise."

She hums, voice starting to drift into sleep. "You're warm. Like a human furnace. If you weren't terrifying, you'd make a really great cuddle bear."

"Thank you. I think."

"Also... you forgot to take your vitamin D tablets again."

Of course she remembers.

Even now. Even with the monsters.

Because that's who she is—made of chaos, curls, tears, and an encyclopedic knowledge of my pill drawer.

But God help anyone who ever thinks they can scare my girl.

Because if the monsters don't kill them—

I will.
