Chapter 31 - She Wore It

Sebastian's POV

I saw it before I saw her.

A flicker of gold, catching the early morning light through the windowpane.Delicate. Small.Resting right at the base of her throat.

She wore it.She actually wore it.

Rain Wang—The girl who used to look at the floor when I passed. The girl whose hair I used to mock, whose silence I once devoured like it was a challenge. The girl I broke…

Now walked into the lecture hall with her head just a little higher. Not fully—God, not yet.But higher.

Her dress was soft blue again. Nothing flashy. Nothing loud. But it hugged her like it used to.Like she remembered who she was before I turned her into something else.

And the necklace—That tiny gold chain—It glowed against her skin like it belonged there.

Whispers started again.Because of course they did.

"She's really trying again…""Did you see that necklace? Who gave her that?""Probably her boyfriend.""She has a boyfriend?""Nah. I bet it's that third year again.""You mean him?"

I didn't care.Let them talk.Let them choke on it.

She wore it.And now every damn word I'd never said clawed at my throat.

The apology. The confession. The hundred times I wanted to walk up to her and say—

"I see you. I remember everything. And I'm sorry I didn't stop it sooner."

But I never had.Because I was a coward dressed in a senior's arrogance.Because part of me thought she'd never forgive me.

But now? Now, there was a little gold chain saying maybe—just maybe—she didn't hate me as much as I hated myself.

I didn't speak to her that morning.Didn't sit near her.Didn't breathe a word.

I just watched.

And for the first time in two years…I prayed she wouldn't take it off.
